Inbreeding Coefficients in Two Isolated Mongolian Populations - GENDISCAN Study

GENDISCAN study (Gene Discovery for Complex traits in Asian population of Northeast area) was designed to incorporate methodologies which enhance the power to identify genetic variations underlying complex disorders. Use of population isolates as the target population is a unique feather of this study. However, population isolates may have hidden inbreeding structures which can affect the validity of the study. To understand how this issue may affect results of GENDISCAN, we estimated inbreeding coefficients in two study populations in Mongolia. We analyzed the status of Hardy-Weinberg Equilibrium (HWE), polymorphism information contents (PIC), heterozygosity, allelic diversity, and inbreeding coefficients, using 317 and 1,044 STR (short tandem repeat) markers in Orkhontuul and Dashbalbar populations. HWE assumptions were generally met in most markers (88.6% and 94.2% respectively), and single marker PIC ranged between 0.2 and 0.9. Inbreeding coefficients were estimated to be 0.0023 and 0.0021, which are small enough to assure that conventional genetic analysis would work without any specific modification. We concluded that the population isolates used in GENDISCAN study would not present significant inflation of type I errors from inbreeding effects in its gene discovery analysis.

With a tremendous increase of interest in health and fitness through sports activities among Citizens, the mumber of Leisure and Recreation facilities has rapidly increased. We made a research on the sports prirticipants who use the swimming pools, bowling alleys, health spas, earobics gyms, golf training courses in Kwang-Ju City and tried to find out. The motives and reasons why they use these facilities, their geographical and environmental conditions, the human relationship within he facilities, the degrees of satisfaction using the facilities. The 1488 subjects were selected from citizens of Kwang-Ju, Statistical techniques for data analysis were discriminant analysis. The results of this study were as follows; The priority order of the factors which affect the satisfaction of commercial sports facilities is like these, 「the frequency of sports participation」, 「the distance to the facilities」, 「the motivation of selecting facilities」, 「monthly income」etc.
Adaptive Run-time Overhead Adjustments for Optimizing Multiple Continuous Query Processing

The time-varying characteristics of infinite data streams require continuous queries to be adaptively processed. The order in which multiple join operations are evaluated has serious consequences for the algorithm performance because the selectivity of each join operation can differ significantly from the selectivity of the other operations. The evaluation order may be effectively determined using the k-EGA and A-SEGO schemes, as proposed in previous studies. These methods optimize target continuous queries by monitoring a set of their promising subplans simultaneously. Each scheme also employs a user-defined cost-bound parameter for controlling the number of monitored subplans. A more optimized global plan may be generated by using a more highly configured cost-bound parameter. However, this approach can increase the overhead associated with monitoring the subplans. This paper proposes a new scheme, Adaptive Run-time Overhead Adjustment (AROA), which provides a novel method for adaptively determining the value of a cost-bound parameter based on the system environment. Unlike the previously described A-SEGO scheme, the scheme proposed here automatically selects the cost-bound parameter to reflect the system workloads (e.g., the input tuple rate, and other parameters). This method not only augments the probability of generating an optimized execution plan, it reduces the run-time delay caused by the optimization process. Experimental verification of the proposed scheme AROA demonstrated that AROA outperforms the previous schemes.

Recently, increasing evidence suggests that neuroinflammation may be a critical factor in the development of Parkinson’s disease (PD) in addition to the ratio of acetylcholine/dopamine because dopaminergic neurons are particularly vulnerable to inflammatory attack. In this study, we investigated whether botulinum neurotoxin A (BoNT-A) was effective for the treatment of PD through its anti-neuroinflammatory effects and the modulation of acetylcholine and dopamine release. We found that BoNT-A ameliorated MPTP and 6-OHDA-induced PD progression, reduced acetylcholine release, levels of IL-1β, IL-6 and TNF-α as well as GFAP expression, but enhanced dopamine release and tyrosine hydroxylase expression. These results indicated that BoNT-A had beneficial effects on MPTP or 6-OHDA-induced PD-like behavior impairments via its anti-neuroinflammation properties, recovering dopamine, and reducing acetylcholine release.

<P>We report, for the first time, a successful 2.5-Gb/s transmission performance of a 1.5-mum emission monolithic vertical-cavity surface-emitting laser (VCSEL) over hybrid links composed of 25-km-long conventional single-mode fibers (SMFs) and a 2.2-km-long 50-mum core multimode fibers (MMFs). This result suggests that 1.5-mum wavelength VCSELs can be effectively used for multigigabit-per-second transmission over hybrid links interconnecting SMF-based long-distance and (or) subscriber network lines with MMF-based local-area network lines in the future ubiquitous network era</P>

본 논문은 실내 공간에서 RFID와 센서를 이용하여 이동로봇이 자기 위치를 파악하고 목표물체를 인식할 수 있는 기법을 제안한다. RFID를 지면과 목표물체에 설치하고 로봇은 리더기와 다양한 센서를 갖춤으로써 이동시 자기 위치를 파악하고 물체로부터도 고유정보를 얻을 수 있게 구성하였다. 초음파 센서 신호의 귀환시간을 활용하여 전방 물체의 거리를 추출하며 바닥의 RFID로부터 이미 획득한 자기 위치를 활용하여 물체의 절대 위치를 구한다. 이는 로봇을 중심으로한 경로지도를 실시간으로 작성하는 것이 가능하며, 실내의 구조 및 목표 물체의 위치등을 포함한 전체적인 지도를 작성할 수 있다. 최종적으로는 최적의 경로 계획을 세워 로봇이 목표 위치로 이동하거나 자율적 탐색이 가능하도록 한다.
