• Nonradiative energy transfer between colloidal quantum dot-phosphors and nanopillar nitride LEDs.

        Zhang, Fan,Liu, Jie,You, Guanjun,Zhang, Chunfeng,Mohney, Suzanne E,Park, Min Joo,Kwak, Joon Seop,Wang, Yongqiang,Koleske, Daniel D,Xu, Jian Optical Society of America 2012 Optics express Vol.20 No.2

We present in this communication our study of the nonradiative energy transfer between colloidal quantum dot (QD) phosphors and nitride nanopillar light emitting diodes (LEDs). An epitaxial p-i-n InGaN/GaN multiple quantum-well (QW) heterostructure was patterned and dry-etched to form dense arrays of nanopillars using a novel etch mask consisting of self-assembled In3Sn clusters. Colloidal QD phosphors have been deposited into the gaps between the nanopillars, leading to sidewall coupling between the QDs and InGaN QW emitters. In this approach, close QW-QD contact and a low-resistance design of the LED contact layer were achieved simultaneously. Strong non-radiative energy transfer was observed from the InGaN QW to the colloidal QD phosphors, which led to a 263% enhancement in effective internal quantum efficiency for the QDs incorporated in the nanopillar LEDs, as compared to those deposited over planar LED structures. Time-resolved photoluminescence was used to characterize the energy transfer process between the QW and QDs. The measured rate of non-radiative QD-QW energy-transfer agrees well with the value calculated from the quantum efficiency data for the QDs in the nanopillar LED.

      • Tumor evolution and intratumor heterogeneity of an oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma revealed by whole-genome sequencing.

        Zhang, Xinyi Cindy,Xu, Chang,Mitchell, Ryan M,Zhang, Bo,Zhao, Derek,Li, Yao,Huang, Xin,Fan, Wenhong,Wang, Hongwei,Lerma, Luisa Angelica,Upton, Melissa P,Hay, Ashley,M?ndez, Eduardo,Zhao, Lue Ping Stockton Press 2013 Neoplasia Vol.15 No.12

Head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC) is characterized by significant genomic instability that could lead to clonal diversity. Intratumor clonal heterogeneity has been proposed as a major attribute underlying tumor evolution, progression, and resistance to chemotherapy and radiation. Understanding genetic heterogeneity could lead to treatments specific to resistant and metastatic tumor cells. To characterize the degree of intratumor genetic heterogeneity within a single tumor, we performed whole-genome sequencing on three separate regions of an human papillomavirus (HPV)-positive oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma and two separate regions from one corresponding cervical lymph node metastasis. This approach achieved coverage of approximately 97.9% of the genome across all samples. In total, 5701 somatic point mutations (SPMs) and 4347 small somatic insertions and deletions (indels)were detected in at least one sample. Ninety-two percent of SPMs and 77% of indels were validated in a second set of samples adjacent to the discovery set. All five tumor samples shared 41% of SPMs, 57% of the 1805 genes with SPMs, and 34 of 55 cancer genes. The distribution of SPMs allowed phylogenetic reconstruction of this tumor's evolutionary pathway and showed that the metastatic samples arose as a late event. The degree of intratumor heterogeneity showed that a single biopsy may not represent the entire mutational landscape of HNSCC tumors. This approach may be used to further characterize intratumor heterogeneity in more patients, and their sample-to-sample variations could reveal the evolutionary process of cancer cells, facilitate our understanding of tumorigenesis, and enable the development of novel targeted therapies.

        zhang fan,LI YU,SU SHUAI 한국웰빙융합학회 2020 웰빙융합연구 Vol.3 No.4

Purpose: This research, based on the tariff reduction table negotiated by South Korea and China free trade area, the specific tariffs of the two countries in the implementation of the Korea-China Free Trade Agreement are calculated, and the global equilibrium model, the global trade analysis project (GTAP) model, is used to simulate and analyze the impact of the Korea-China free trade area on the output and trade of the two countries. Research design, data and methodology: The study conducted a survey on 2018 year GTAP 9.0data. After empirically analyzing the data, we believe that the Major industry in Korea and China will maintain its growth momentum. Results: This study shows that under the assumption that the average tariff of China and South Korea at the beginning of FTA was reduced to 20%, two scenarios were simulated. Two scenarios are simulated under the assumption that the average tariff of China and South Korea FTA will be reduced to 10%. Conclusions: Based on the latest version of GTAP data, this paper assumes that the average tariff of China-Korea FTA is set at 20%, 10% and zero tariff respectively in the early, middle and long term of the FTA construction. It also considers the impact of China-Japan-Korea FTA on China- Korea FTA.

Hydrothermal synthesis combined with calcination of Gd2O2SO4 : Yb3+,Er3+ nanoparticles and their up-conversion luminescence

        Fan Liu,Xuri Wang,Yanyu Yang,Jing Zhang,Zhaoren Zhang,Jingbao Lian 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2016 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.17 No.12

The Gd2O2SO4 : Yb3+,Er3+ nanoparticles were synthesized by a general and facile hydrothermal synthesis followed bycalcination utilizing commercially available Gd2O3, Yb2O3, Er2O3, HNO3, urea and C12H25SO4Na as the starting materials. Theprecursor and the synthetic products were characterized by a variety of characterization tools. The results reveal that theprecursor is composed of gadolinium hydroxyl, carbonate and sulfate groups and could be converted into pure Gd2O2SO4phase by calcining at 800 oC for 2 hrs in air. The good crystallinity and dispersion of near-spherical Gd2O2SO4 nanoparticleswere obtained with an average diameter of about 50 nm. Under 980 nm infrared light excitation, the Gd2O2SO4 : Yb3+,Er3+nanoparticles present the strongest red emission (664 nm), which corresponds to the 4F9/2 → 4I15/2 transition of Er3+ ions. Moreover, two green emission peaks are located at 546 nm and 526 nm, resulting from the 4S3/2 → 4I15/2 and 2 H11/2 → 4I15/2transitions of Er3+ ions, respectively. When the concentration of Er3+ ions reaches 2%, the Gd2O2SO4 : Yb3+,Er3+ nanoparticlesshows the highest luminescence. The Ln(Iup)-Ln(P) plots confirm that the up-conversion (UC) excitation belongs to two-photon(4F9/2 → 4I15/2 and 4S3/2 → 4I15/2) and three-photon (2H11/2 → 4I15/2) absorption mechanisms.

Effects of In Content on the Microstructure and the Roughness of ZnO:In Films

Fan Zhang,장보라,김창회,이종훈,김홍승,장낙원,빈민욱,이원재 한국물리학회 2013 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.62 No.9

We investigated the changes in the preferred orientation and microstructure of ZnO:In films with increasing In content. ZnO and ZnO:In films with In contents of up to 50 at.% were deposited on Si (111) substrates by using pulsed laser deposition and were subsequently characterized using X-ray diffraction (XRD), atomic force microscopy (AFM), and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The structural analysis of the films revealed that as the In content was increased, the preferred orientation of the films changed from a c-axis to a random orientation at In content of 10 at.%and finally became a a-axis orientation at In content of 20 at.%. The column grain size and values of root-mean-square (RMS) roughness showed a gradual decrease with increasing In content. As the In content was increased to 10 at.%, the initial orientation of the nuclei changed from a c-axis to a random orientation; nuclei with a preferred an a-axis orientation were dominant for an In content of 20 at.%, reflecting a deterioration in the tetrahedral coordination of ZnO. Consequently, the growth direction of the grains changed, and the preferred orientation of the grains affected the microstructure.

Study on Consolidation Behaviors of Peaty Soils Using a Viscoelastic Rheological-Consolidation Model in Kunming, China

        Fan-Ge Zhang,Kan Liu,Min Yang 대한토목학회 2020 KSCE JOURNAL OF CIVIL ENGINEERING Vol.24 No.3

Due to the presence of organic matters, peaty soils have a highly compressible nature, and the consolidation process is complicated by the occurrence of rheological deformation. This paper presents the behaviors of the peaty soils sampled from the city of Kunming, the capital of Yunnan province in southwestern China. A series of one-dimensional compression tests are carried out on the peaty soil specimens with different organic matter contents. Considering the rheological properties of peaty soils, the three-element viscoelastic rheological model is introduced into the consolidation equation, then the analytical solution is derived for the viscoelastic rheological-consolidation model. Finally, the influences of consolidation pressures and organic matter contents on the model parameters determined by test data fitting are investigated. It has been shown that the model is coinciding fairly well with test results, and the consolidation pressure and organic matter content have a remarkable effect on the model parameters.

      • Potential Therapeutic Targets for the Primary Gallbladder Carcinoma: Estrogen Receptors

        Zhang, Ling-Qiang,Zhang, Xiu-De,Xu, Jia,Wan, Yong,Qu, Kai,Zhang, Jing-Yao,Wang, Zhi-Xin,Wei, Ji-Chao,Meng, Fan-Di,Tai, Ming-Hui,Zhou, Lei,Liu, Chang Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2013 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.14 No.4

Gallbladder carcinoma, the most frequent malignant neoplasm of the biliary tract system, has always been considered to feature late clinical presentation and diagnosis, limited treatment options and an extremely poor prognosis. In recent years, while the incidence of gallbladder cancer has appeared to be on the increase, the available treatment methods have not greatly improved survival of the affected patients. Thus, exploring new therapeutic targets for this devastating disease is an urgent matter at present. Epidemical studies have demonstrated that the incidence of gallbladder carcinoma exhibits a distinct gender bias, affecting females two to three times more than males, pointing to crucial roles of estrogen. It is well known that estrogen acts on target tissues by binding to estrogen receptors (ERs), which are mainly divided into three subtypes, $ER{\alpha}$, $ER{\beta}$ and $ER{\gamma}$. $ER{\alpha}$ and $ER{\beta}$ appear to have overlapping but also unique even opposite biological effects. As important pathogenic mediators, ERs have been considered to relate to several kinds of tumors. In gallbladder carcinoma tissue, ERs have been shown to be positively expressed, and ERs expression levels are associated with differentiation and prognosis of this cancer. Nevertheless, the exact mechanisms of estrogen inducing growth of gallbladder carcinoma remain poorly understood. On the base of the current investigations, we deduce that estrogen participates in promotion of gallbladder carcinoma by influencing the formation of gallstones, stimulating angiogenesis, and promoting abnormal proliferation. Since ERs mediate the carcinogenic actions of estrogen in gallbladder, and therapy targeting ERs may provide new directions for gallbladder carcinoma. Therefore, it should be stressed that ERs are potential therapeutic targets for gallbladder carcinoma.

Pilot Study of a Brief WeChat Intervention in China to Increase Students’ Willingness to Assist a Flushing Student to Reduce Alcohol Use

        Fan Zhang,Lok-Wa Yuen,Lanyan Ding,백진욱,Young-Ho Khang 대한예방의학회 2018 예방의학회지 Vol.51 No.6

Objectives: This pilot study tested the effectiveness of a brief alcohol-related intervention delivered by the social media app WeChat to teach about ethanol-induced facial flushing and increase the willingness of students who see another student flushing to suggest that he or she should reduce or stop drinking. In the context of Chinese drinking culture, it is sometimes socially difficult to refuse a drink, even when experiencing physical discomfort, such as flushing. Methods: Classrooms of students in a medical university in China were randomly assigned to the intervention or control group. Students in the intervention group were invited to view 3 alcohol education lessons on WeChat during a 2-week period. A pretest and posttest before and after the 2-week period assessed changes in students’ willingness to intervene if they saw someone flush while drinking. Data were collected about students’ alcohol use and their ratings of the lessons. Results: Mixed-design analysis of variance yielded a significant time-by-treatment interaction effect on the variable of willingness to suggest that a flushing person stop or slow down their drinking, and the change was significant between the intervention and control groups. One-way analysis of covariance yielded a significant treatment effect at the posttest, after controlling for the pretest score. Students rated the lessons above the midpoint of the scale for being informative, interesting, and useful. Conclusions: The pilot study showed that a brief alcohol-related intervention delivered by WeChat could produce a measurable positive change in the willingness of university students to suggest that a student who flushes should stop drinking. This pilot study also suggested improvements for future lessons and evaluation design.
