Investigating Students`` Perceived Language Needs for Curriculum Review
( Dennis Martin Balint ) 범태평양응용언어학회 2005 범태평양응용언어학회지 Vol.9 No.1
Demographic and situational changes have led to the increasing importance of reviewing the curriculum of English language programs in Japan in recent years. This article will describe a study investigating the perceived English language needs of students at a university in Western Japan as part of a curriculum review. In a curriculum review, students`` perceived English language needs are often collected and taken into consideration toward any curriculum revision of a program``s goals and objectives. Various statistical analyses, including factor analysis and multiple regression, of data from a needs analysis survey completed by first-year university students were used to investigate their perceived English language needs. Of particular importance for the study are the results of the analyses which show that caution must be taken into how needs analysis survey data is analyzed and interpreted. Using more complex statistical analyses revealed perceptions which differed from those identified by looking only at the descriptive statistics. The results of the study have allowed for more fruitful discussion of the process toward determining the goals or objectives of EFL programs.
The Histological Changes of the Great Saphenous Vein at 2 Years after Cryosclerosis
Istvan Bence Balint,Ottilia Bali,Eszter Vargovics,Eva Simon,Laszlo Vizsy 대한혈관외과학회 2014 Vascular Specialist International Vol.30 No.3
Cryosclerosis was developed at the end of the last decade. It is the endovenous cryoablation of the great saphenous vein and has been forgotten before the era of the endovenous ablation techniques began. The caused histomorphological changes of the vein weren’t described before, especially, years after the procedure. A 31-year-old female patient underwent cryosclerosis 2 years ago. Because of the recanalization of the great saphenous vein and recurrent varicosity, high ligation, cryostripping and phlebectomy of varices were performed. During surgery, a saphenous vein piece was harvested to investigate the histomorphological effect of cryosclerosis. Histological findings verified that recanalization had occurred, the vein wall had undergone remodeling, and the picro-sirius red stain showed collagen deposition in the whole vein wall. Cryosclerosis seems to result in the remodeling of the vein wall.

Among several newly identified oncogenes, dek and af4 are atractive targets for researchers interested with leukemia. In this study quanti-define alterations in expresion of dek and af4 genes associated with acute promyelocytic leu-kaemia (APL) t (15; 17). RNA samples obtained from bone marow aspirates of fourten APL patients, cDNA portions were labelled with Sy-ber Gren 1 dye and LightCycler analysis have been performed. Expression changes in patients were found not significant in comparison to healthy donors for af4 (P = 0.192) and dek (P = 0.0895). We sugest that af4 gene may have a blastic lineage; also further studies must cary on with a larger series of patients in order to understand the relationship betwen the dek gene and APL. Our study was the first attempt for analysing dek and af4 genes in APL t (15; 17) patients by quantitative Real-Time RT-PCR. This rapid and sensitive method could be used to screen these genes in diferent types of leukaemia.

Photonic crystal type structures of biological origin were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and UVVISreectance measurements. It was demonstrated that despite the moderate refractive index contrast between chitin and air, biologicalevolution developed in the wing scale nanostructures of butteries representing various families, numerous structures with dierentuse photonic structures, the UV protection mechanism of the high altitude ower Edelweiss has been investigated. We present fullysupportive data that the protection mechanism is based on coupling by nanostructured, highly selective couplers the harmful UVradiation in propagating modes along bers containing UV absorbing pigment.

The objective of the study involved developing a rehabilitation support robot for self-standing-up training of hemiplegic stroke patients to restore normal standing-up motion. Based on our previous analysis of the therapist"s guiding movements in standing-up training of patients, a passive-type robot was adopted. However, the link weight of the robot acts as a load at the patient’s waist. In this work, we designed a counterbalance mechanism for the robot in order to reduce the load at the patient’s waist and determined the optimal parameters for the mechanism. We confirmed by simulation that the specifications of the forces acting on the end-effectors of the robots were satisfied, and thus the proposed counterbalance mechanism was effective.

The molecular mechanism playing a role in the development of prostate cancer (PCA) is not well defined. We decided to determine the changes in gene expression in PCA tissues and to compare them to those in noncancerous samples. Prostate tissue samples were collected by needle biopsy from 21 PCA and 10 benign prostate hyperplasic (BPH) patients. Total RNA was isolated, cDNA was synthesized, and gene expression levels were determined by microarray method. In the progression to PCA, 738 up-regulated and 515 downregulated genes were detected in samples. Analysis using Ingenuity Pathway Analysis (IPA) software revealed that 466 network and 423 functions-pathways eligible genes were up-regulated, and 363 network and 342 functions-pathways eligible genes were down-regulated. Up-regulated networks were identified around IL-1β and insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) genes. The NFKB gene was centered around two upand down-regulated networks. Up-regulated canonical pathways were assigned and four of them were evaluated in detail: acute phase response, hepatic fibrosis, actin cytoskeleton, and coagulation pathways. Axonal guidance signaling was the most significant down-regulated canonical pathway. Our data provide not only networks between the genes for understanding the biologic properties of PCA but also useful pathway maps for future understanding of disease and the construction of new therapeutic targets.
