      • Influence of Ideology, Poetics, Patronage and the Professional on Rewriting Vanity Fair into Chinese Texts

        La Foire aux Vanites(Vanity Fair) de William Thackeray depeint la vie diverse de la haute societe anglaise de la premiere moitie du 19eme siecle et critique l`ordre social du monde bourgeois en caricaturant les individus des differentes couches sociales. Depuis que ce roman a ete introduit en Chine au 20eme siecle, de diverses versions chinoises ont fait successivement leur apparition, dont les versions de Yang Bi des annees cinquante et de Peng Changjiang des annees quatre-vingt dix les meilleures. Fonde sur la theorie ? recriture ? d`Andre Lefevre, a savoir ? ideologie, poetique, patronage et professionnel ?, ce present article recherche l`influence de ces quatre elements sur les choix des strategies traductrices de ces deux traducteurs a leur epoque. Nous etudions egalement la subjectivite du traducteur en examinant le choix de la poetique de traduction des deux traducteurs et en soulignant l`importance pour les traducteurs de devenir mediateur competent dans les echanges culturels, au lieu d`etre seulement ? marionnette ? manipulee par les elements exterieurs.

      • TL Ideology and Canonization, the Making of a Translation Exemplified with Chinese Translations of The Gadfly

        La traduction a pour objectif de transmettre tous les renseignements de la langue source au texte de la langue cible, cependant dans la plupart des cas, les elements ideologiques de la langue cible reagissent sur la traduction. En prenant comme exemple les deux versions de The Gadfly, ce present article a fait des recherches sur l`influence de l`ideologie de la langue cible sur le processus et le produit de traduction, et essentiellement sur les cinq aspects: selection du texte de la langue de depart; choix des strategies du traducteur; redaction et publication des traductions; critique du texte traduit et reaction des lecteurs, ainsi que canonisation de la traduction avec les efforts conjugues des traducteurs, des editeurs, des critiques et des lecteurs.

      • On Peter Newmark: Translation theory and influence from the Chinese perspective

        Peter Newmark etait un celebre traducteur anglais et un theoricien de la traduction. Il etait aussi l`un des representants de la theorie de la traduction de l`ecole linguistique en Occident. Il est connu pour la praticabilite de sa theorie, resultat de sa pratique et son enseignement de traduction. Dans la seconde moitie du 20eme siecle, ses idees ont ete introduites en Chine, stimulant ainsi la recherche scientifique sur la traduction. Sa theorie de la traduction semantique et communicative a fait l`objet d`une etude poussee des theoriciens chinois. En 1994, Newmark a propose une approche correlative a la traduction, remplacant son ancienne theorie par dichotomie (la traduction semantique et communicative). Mais dans quel but Newmark a-t-il apporte ce changement a sa theorie? Quels rapports existent-ils entre ces methodes de traduction? Du point de vue chinoise, en examinant ses approches de traduction et leurs relations, nous en decouvrirons les principes ou theories d`application afin de guider les recherches et l`exercice de la traduction anglo-chinoise.

        Two Androstane Derivatives from the Cultures of Fungus Marasmiellus ramealis (Bull.) Singer

        A new androstane derivative, $4{\beta}$-methyl-15-oxa-$14{\beta}$-androstane-7-ene-$4{\alpha}$-carboxylic acid (1) and a known one $4{\beta}$-methyl-15-oxa-$14{\beta}$-androstane-7-ene-$4{\alpha}$-hydroxyl (2) were isolated from the EtOAc extract of the cultures of the fungus Marasmiellus ramealis (Bull.) Singer. Their structures were elucidated on the basis of 1D and 2D NMR as well as MS spectroscopic data analysis. The inhibitory activity of two isolates against acetylcholinesterase (AChE) revealed that compound 1 exhibited definitely inhibitory activity.

      • Potential Roles of Protease Inhibitors in Cancer Progression

        Proteases are important molecules that are involved in many key physiological processes. Protease signaling pathways are strictly controlled, and disorders in protease activity can result in pathological changes such as cardiovascular and inflammatory diseases, cancer and neurological disorders. Many proteases have been associated with increasing tumor metastasis in various human cancers, suggesting important functional roles in the metastatic process because of their ability to degrade the extracellular matrix barrier. Proteases are also capable of cleaving non-extracellular matrix molecules. Inhibitors of proteases to some extent can reduce invasion and metastasis of cancer cells, and slow down cancer progression. In this review, we focus on the role of a few proteases and their inhibitors in tumors as a basis for cancer prognostication and therapy.

        Effect of ZnO on the microstructures and piezoelectric properties of K0.5Na0.5NbO3 ceramics

        Lead-free ZnO added K0.5Na0.5NbO3 piezoelectric ceramics have been prepared by a conventional solid state process. The XRD results show that all the K0.5Na0.5NbO3 ceramics with various ZnO contents are single phase with an orthorhombic perovskite structure. The bulk density obtained by the Archimedes method indicates that the addition of ZnO improves the density of K0.5Na0.5NbO3 ceramics under the same sintering conditions. Especially, at a level of 1 mol% ZnO, the sample sintered at 1100 oC for 1h exhibits the highest bulk density (ρ = 4.28 g/㎤) and shows optimal piezoelectric properties, d33 = 135 pC/N and kp = 0.40.         Novel CHR-2 SINE subfamilies and t-SINEs identified in cetaceans using nonradioactive Southern blotting

        The SINEs are short interspersed repetitive elements that propagate in eukaryotic genomes via transcription followed by reverse transcription. Recent genomic surveys have demonstrated that SINEs are active in shaping the architecture of genomes and therefore are powerful markers for studies of phylogeny and population biology. In the present study, a new protocol was developed to apply nonradioactive digoxigeninlabeling system into isolation of SINEs rapidly, safely, and efficiently. The application of this approach is illustrated with discovery of thirteen informative SINEs and a novel member of the t‐SINE family in the Omura’s whale (Balaenoptera omurai) and sperm whale (Physeter macrocephalus), which is the first record of t‐SINE in cetacean. Analysis of subfamilyspecific genetic variability and insertions/deletions strongly suggested the existence of some novel CHR‐2 SINE subfamilies in the cetacean genomes.

        An investigation of Panax ginseng Meyer growth promotion and the biocontrol potential of antagonistic bacteria against ginseng black spot

        Background: Ginseng black spot disease resulting from Alternaria panax Whuetz is a common soil-borne disease, with an annual incidence rate higher than 20-30%. In this study, the bacterial strains with good antagonistic effect against A. panax are screened. Methods: A total of 285 bacterial strains isolated from ginseng rhizosphere soils were screened using the Kirby-Bauer disk diffusion method and the Oxford cup plate assay. We analyzed the antifungal spectrum of SZ-22 by confronting incubation. To evaluate the efficacy of biocontrol against ginseng black spot and for growth promotion by SZ-22, we performed pot experiments in a plastic greenhouse. Taxonomic position of SZ-22 was identified using morphology, physiological, and biochemical characteristics, 16S ribosomal DNA, and gyrB sequences. Results: SZ-22 (which was identified as Brevundimonas terrae) showed the strongest inhibition rate against A. panax, which showed 83.70% inhibition, and it also provided broad-spectrum antifungal effects. The inhibition efficacies of the SZ-22 bacterial suspension against ginseng black spot reached 82.47% inhibition, which is significantly higher than that of the 25% suspension concentrate azoxystrobin fungicide treatment (p < 0.05). Moreover, the SZ-22 bacterial suspension also caused ginseng plant growth promotion as well as root enhancement. Conclusion: Although the results of the outdoor pot-culture method were influenced by the pathogen inoculum density, the cropping history of the field site, and the weather conditions, B. terrae SZ-22 controlled ginseng black spot and promoted ginseng growth successfully. This study provides resource for the biocontrol of ginseng black spot.

        Study on morphology and photoluminescence of Au/SiO2 nanocomposite films

        Au/SiO2 nanocomposite films were fabricated on Si (111) substrates by radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering technique and annealing at different temperature for 20 min (mode A) and at 1000℃ for different annealing time (mode B). The nanocomposite films were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and photoluminescence (PL). SEM results demonstrate that the size of Au crystallites in mode A first increases and then decreases, on increasing annealing temperature, according to the results of XRD spectra. Analysis of PL spectra in mode B shows that the intensity of the emission peak at 440 nm and 523 nm early increases and late decreases, with increasing annealing time at 1000℃. The origin of the emission peak at around 440 nm was related to the size and quantity of Au particles and one of the emission peak at around 523 nm was related to the nanostructure of films in agreement with SEM imagines. Experimental results indicated that morphology, microstructure and luminescence of Au/SiO2 nanocomposite films showed close affinity with annealing temperature and annealing time.

        A review of source tracking techniques for fine sediment within a catchment

        <P>Excessive transport of fine sediment, and its associated pollutants, can cause detrimental impacts in aquatic environments. It is therefore important to perform accurate sediment source apportionment to identify hot spots of soil erosion. Various tracers have been adopted, often in combination, to identify sediment source type and its spatial origin; these include fallout radionuclides, geochemical tracers, mineral magnetic properties and bulk and compound-specific stable isotopes. In this review, the applicability of these techniques to particular settings and their advantages and limitations are reviewed. By synthesizing existing approaches, that make use of multiple tracers in combination with measured changes of channel geomorphological attributes, an integrated analysis of tracer profiles in deposited sediments in lakes and reservoirs can be made. Through a multi-scale approach for fine sediment tracking, temporal changes in soil erosion and sediment load can be reconstructed and the consequences of changing catchment practices evaluated. We recommend that long-term, as well as short-term, monitoring of riverine fine sediment and corresponding surface and subsurface sources at nested sites within a catchment are essential. Such monitoring will inform the development and validation of models for predicting dynamics of fine sediment transport as a function of hydro-climatic and geomorphological controls. We highlight that the need for monitoring is particularly important for hilly catchments with complex and changing land use. We recommend that research should be prioritized for sloping farmland-dominated catchments.</P>
