Lignans isolated from Schisandria chinensis have been prescribed as anti-cancer and anti-hepatitis treatments in Chinese medicine. To investigate the applications of lignans isolated from Schisandria chinensis in hepatic carcinoma therapy, their apoptotic ability was screened using a cell proliferation assay. Compared to the other lignans, gomisin N induced high apoptotic levels in hepatic carcinoma. Cell morphology and flow cytometric analysis demonstrated that this lignan induced cell death at high concentrations, but did not induce any changes at low concentrations. In addition, the expression levels of Bcl-2 and Bax proteins, which are involved in the apoptotic pathway, were markedly increased in only the 320 ?M-treated group compared to the vehicle and other concentration groups, while the expression level of p53 protein remained unchanged in this group. These results suggest that gomisin N is an anti-cancer drug candidate capable of inhibiting the proliferation and inducing the apoptosis of human hepatic carcinomas.

Selenoprotein M (SeIM) is a eukaryotic selenoprotein containing one selenocysteine (Sec) and Sec insertion sequence (SECIS) in 3' untranslated regions. In order to examine whether SelM expression and selenium treatment were influenced on expression level of the apoptosis-related proteins, pCMV/hlDE fusion gene were overexpressed in the HEK 293 cell line and hSelM-Tg rat. Herein, it is concluded that; ⅰ) two transgenic mice were identified by PCR analysis using specific primers by screening 28 newborn founder mice, ⅱ) the GFP-hSeIM fusion protein were successfully detected on the protein level in the HEK 293 cell line and hSeIM-Tg rat. ⅲ) it was also observed that p53 proteins were significantly changed in the HEK 293 cell under the condition of hSeIM overexpression and selenuim treatment, while not changed in the kidney tissue of hSeIM-Tg rat. ⅳ) Bax proteins were significantly changed in the kidney of hSeIM-Tg rat under the condition of hSeIM overexpression and sel treatment, while not changed in the HEK 293 cell line. ⅴ) Bel2 proteins in the HEK 293 cell were significantly decreased in the hSeIM transfectants, but hSeIM-Tg rat were shown the different expression patterns in the sel treated condition. These results suggest that selenium treatment and SeIM overexpression were differently influenced the expressions of apoptosis-related proteins in the tumor cell line and transgenic tissue

Background: Recently, increased levels of high-mobility group box 1 protein (HMGB1) have been identified in various inflammatory conditions and infections. However, no studies have evaluated the HMGB1 level in nontuberculous mycobacterial (NTM) lung disease, and compared it to mycobacterial lung disease. Methods: A total of 60 patients newly diagnosed with NTM lung disease, 44 culture-positive pulmonary tuberculosis (TB) patients, and 34 healthy controls, were included in this study. The serum HMGB1 concentrations were quantified using HMGB1 enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay kits. Results: Serum HMGB1 level in patients with pulmonary TB or NTM lung disease, was significantly lower than that of the healthy controls. In addition, the serum HMGB1 level in TB patients was significantly lower than patients with NTM lung disease. However, the levels in NTM patient subgroups did not differ according to the causative species, disease progression, and disease phenotype. Conclusion: Although low levels of serum HMGB1 has the potential to be a marker of mycobacterial lung disease, these levels were unable to differentiate disease progression and disease phenotype in NTM lung diseases.
싱가포르 핵심역량 기반 영어교사 교육의 특징 및 사례 분석
임수연(Su yon Yim),안태연(Tae youn Ahn) 한국비교교육학회 2016 比較敎育硏究 Vol.26 No.6
TE21(A Teacher Education Model for the 21st Century)을 발표하여 핵심역량에 근거한 교사양성 및 육성을 시도하고 있다. This study aims to draw implications for competence-based teacher education in Korea based on the analysis of Singaporean case of in-service teacher education. For a detailed analysis of the process in which competence-based teacher education has been implemented in Singapore, interviews were conducted with six participants - three NIE faculty members, a principle master teacher and two master teachers working at ELIS(English Language Institute of Singapore). Implications for teacher education in Korea are as follows: 1) In addition to knowledge and skills, values need to be emphasized in teacher’s core competency. 2) The role of master teachers in mentoring and educating their colleagues needs to be strengthened within a well-established teacher professional development system. 3) Subject-specific in-service training centers are required, in which teacher trainers can continuously work for the professional development of teachers in need of growing pedagogical knowledge in their subject fields.

Abstract

Appropriate pain assessment is very important for managing cancer pain. This study was designed to evaluate the utility of the Korean Cancer Pain Assessment Tool (KCPAT) by assessing changes in the management of cancer pain. The changes in pain intensity, the pattern of drug prescriptions, and the patients' satisfaction with pain control were analyzed after using the KCPAT. The results indicated that pain medicine prescriptions were changed in 194 (51.5%) cases after using the KCPAT, and 69.5% of these changes were affected by the KCPAT. After using the KCPAT, pain intensity as assessed by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS, 0–10cm) decreased (4.31±2.35 vs. 3.60±2.45, P<0.0001), and the presence of associated symptoms and psychosocial items was significantly reduced. The patients' satisfaction with pain control was improved. Forty-four physicians (89.8%) thought that the KCPAT was useful. The KCPAT improved patients' satisfaction with pain control and was a useful tool for evaluating and managing cancer pain.
