The discoid meniscus is an innate modified form of the meniscus, characterized by middle hypertrophy and a larger than the regular diameter, leading to an absence of the characteristic “C” arrangement. Previously, no study has reported the traditional Korean medicine treatment of knee pain mainly due to discoid meniscus. Here, we report two cases of a discoid meniscus of the knee as the cause of knee pain. Patients were diagnosed with magnetic resonance imaging for discoid meniscus and received traditional Korean medicine treatments, including pharmacopuncture, acupuncture, herbal medicine, and chuna. The pain was alleviated when assessed by patient-reported pain scale scores, and the general knee condition was improved. Thus, traditional Korean medicine treatments could be effective for patients who had discoid meniscus of the knee joint in this case report.
Integrated Korean Medicine Treatments for Infrapatellar Bursitis: A Case Report

In infrapatellar bursitis, an acute or chronic inflammation of the infrapatellar bursa causes pain and swelling at the front of the knee. To date, only a few studies have reported cases of infrapatellar bursitis that are treated using Korean medicine. The aim of the present study is to report a case of a 27-year-old male with front knee pain caused by infrapatellar bursitis that was treated with integrated Korean medicine treatments (e.g., acupuncture, pharmacopuncture, herbal medicine). The patient- reported numeric rating scale confirmed that the patient’s pain was relieved, while the physical function tests also indicated a significant improvement. Based on the findings of this study, it can be suggested that integrated Korean medicine treatments could be an effective therapeutic option for patients diagnosed with infrapatellar bursitis.
파모두부 및 콩국물을 이용하여 제조한 두부아이스크림의 최적배합비 및 품질특성에 관한 연구

두부와 콩의 우수한 영양성과 기능성을 이용한 아이스크림의 개발을 위해 두부아이스크림의 최적 배합비를 찾고, 콩아이스크림과 품질을 비교 및 평가하기 위한 연구를 진행하였다. 두부크림 65-75%, 카놀라유 9-15%, 유크림 0-10.4%로 배합조건 범위를 설정하고, 조직감, 향, 쓴맛, 전반적 기호도의 4가지 항목을 이용하여 최적 배합비를 도출하였다. 최종적으로 유크림 4.35%, 카놀라유 14.35%, 두부크림 65.90% 첨가 아이스크림이 가장 최적화된 배합비로 도출되었다. 대두를 블랜칭, 스티밍, 로스팅 세 가지 전처리 방법을 이용하여 콩아이스크림을 제조하였고, mix viscosity, overrun, melting down 특성을 평가하여 두부아이스크림과 비교하였다. 대두의 전처리 시간이 증가함에 따라 아이스크림 점도와 오버런이 증가하였고, 조직감 향상 및 이취를 감소시켜 관능적 특성을 우수하게 만드는 결과가 나타났다. 두부아이스크림은 상대적으로 오버런이 낮고, melting down이 높아 콩아이스크림에 비하여 조직감이 좋지 않고, 상온에서의 보존성이 떨어지는 것으로 나타났다. 이는 두부 내 대두단백질의 변성으로 인한 구조적 차이에서 기인된 것으로 추정되었다. 전반적인 관능적 특성에서 두부아이스크림은 control과 비슷하고, BSI 및 SSI에 비하여 높은 기호도를 나타내었다. RSI는 control 및 두부아이스크림에 비하여 우수한 기호도를 나타내었다. 특히, RSI 15가 유의적으로 가장 높은 기 호도를 보이며, 가장 우수한 아이스크림임을 확인하였다. The purpose of this study was to formulate the optimal ratio of tofu ice cream made with crushed tofu and soybean milk. Also, to compare characteristics of tofu ice cream and soybean ice cream. Mix viscosity, overrun and melting down are measured as characteristics of ice cream. The optimal mixing ratio of tofu ice cream was determined by response surface methodology based on overall quality. As a result of optimization, tofu ice cream was made with 65.90% tofu cream (9% solid contents), 4.35% whipping cream, 14.35% canola oil, 15.00% sugar, 0.2% emulsifier and 0.2% guar gum. Soybean ice cream made with three different treated (blanched, steamed, roasted) soybean and each preprocess are treated for 0-20 min. Mix viscosity was enhanced preprocessing time increasing. Also, overrun and melting down was decline preprocessing time increased. As a result of comparison of ice cream overall quality, 15 min roasted soybean ice cream was shown the best quality
흰쥐에서 망간의 투여 용량에 따른 뇌 자기공명영상과 병리조직학적 변화

목적: 본 연구는 사람에서 만성적인 노출 시 파킨슨양증후군을 일으키는 것으로 알려진 망간에 의한 뇌 영향을 알아보기 위한 기초적인 연구의 일환으로, 흰쥐에서 망간의 투여용랑에 따른 저 자기공명영상과 병리조직학적 변화를 알아보고자 하였다. 방법: 15마리의 흰쥐를 5마리씩 대조군, 저용량군과 고용량군의 세 군으로 나누고 각각의 군에 생리식염수, 망간 10 mg과 40 mg을 1주에 1회 4주간 꼬리정택을 통해 투여하였다. 투여 4주 후에 뇌 자기공명영상을 촬영한 후 희생시켜 부검하여 혈액과 뇌를 채취하였다. 채취한 혈액에서 망간의 함량을 측정하였고, 뇌는 염색하여 병리 조직학적 면화를 관찰하였다. 결과: 혈중 망간의 농도는 망간의 투여량이 증가함에 따라 유의하게 증가하였다. 뇌 자기공명영상을 촬영하여 각 군의 기저핵에서 신호강도를 측정하였을 때, 대조군과 비교해서 실험군의 그리고 실험군에서 저용량군에 비해 고용량군의 기저핵에서 신호강도가 증가한 것을 확인하였다. 병리조직학적 검사에서 망간을 투여한 실험군은 대조군에 비해 기저핵에서 교세포 수에 대한 신경세포 수의 비가 유의하게 감소하였다. 결론: 흰쥐에서 망간의 투여 후, 뇌 자기공명영상의 T1 강조 영상에서 신호강도와 병리조직검사에서 신경세포의 손상은 망간의 투여 용량에 따라 증가하였다. 이를 통해 기저핵에서 뇌 자기공명영상의 신호강도는 병리조직학적 손상의 정도와 관련이 있음을 추정할 수 있었다. Objectives: This study was carded out to investigate the effect of manganese on the brains of rats, and chronic exposure to manganese is known to induce Parkinsonism in human. Methods: The rats were divided into three groups: the first group was a control group that was administrated normal saline, and the second group was subdivided into the low dose group (10 mg/kg) and the high dose group (40 nig/kg) according to the administered dose of manganese. The rats of each group received an injection of normal saline and manganese via a tail vein once a week for 4 weeks. The rats were sacraficed at 4 weeks after the first adminstration of manganese. Brain MR imaging was performed before the rats were killed. After the rats were killed, the concentration of blood manganese was measured, and pathologic examination of the brain was performed in all the groups. Results: The concentration of blood manganese was increased proportionally to the administered dose. The signal intensity of the basal ganglia on the T1-weighted imaging of brain MRI was increased in accordance with the administered dose. The ratio of neuron/glial cells in the basal ganglia was decreased in the experiment group as compared to that of the control group. Conclusions: This study showed that the signal intensity and the damage of neurons in basal ganglia were increased according to the administered dose of manganese in rats.
Water-Through Triboelectric Nanogenerator Based on Ti-Mesh for Harvesting Liquid Flow

<P>Water flow has mechanical energy as well as triboelectric energy generated by the friction between the solid surface and the water. We describe a water-through triboelectric nanogenerator (WTTENG) based on Ti-mesh that harvests electrical energy from contact electrification between the water flow and polytetrafluoroethylene (PTFE) nanowires. The electrical output from the fabricated WT-TENG is due to deionized water flowing through the polypropylene (PP) channel. The WTTENG generated a peak voltage and current of up to -9.4 V and -5.1 mu A, respectively. In particular, the WT-TENG, which harvests the electrical energy from flowing deionized water, tap water and even a 0.6 M NaCl solution, can be used in applications of any existing kinds of fluids for not only harvesting mechanical energy but also sensing metal ions in the liquid.</P>
