Comparison of the Muscle Activity of Lumbar Stabilizers Between Stoop and Semi-Squat Lifting Techniques at Different Lifting Loads

( Hoe Song Yang ),( Oh Yun Kwon ),( Yeop Seop Lee ) 한국전문물리치료학회 2012 한국전문물리치료학회지 Vol.19 No.3

This study was performed to compare the muscle activity of lumbar stabilizers between stoop and semi-squat lifting techniques at different lifting loads. Twenty healthy subjects (9 males, 11 females) were recruited for this study. Muscle activity of external obliques (EO), internal obliques (IO) and lumbar multifidus (LM) muscle was measured by surface electromyography during stoop and semi-squat lifting at different lifting loads (10%, 20%, and 30% of the subject`s body weight). A one-way repeated measure ANOVA was applied. The results showed that EMG activity of EO was significantly increased with a load of 30% of body weight compared to 10% and 20% of body weight in both lifting techniques (p<.05). Muscle activity of LM was significantly increased in 20% compared to 10% and 30% compared to 10% of subject`s body weight in stoop lifting and the muscle activity of LM was significantly increased in 20% compared to 10%, 30% compared to 20%, and 30% compared to 10% of the subject`s body weight in semi-squat lifting (p<.05). However, there was no significant difference in activity of IO according to lifting loads in both lifting techniques. There were no significant differences in muscle activity of EO, IO, and LM between stoop and semi-squat technique (p>.05). Therefore, the results of this study suggested that the EO can contribute to increase the lumbar stability during stoop and semi-squat lifting at 30% of body weight rather than at lower loads, and the LM seems to act as counteractor to imposed loads during stoop and semi-squat lifting with increasing loads.

작은가슴근의 단축이 등세모근과 큰가슴근의 근 활성도에 미치는 영향

양회송 ( Hoe Song Yang ),배세현 ( Se Hyeon Bae ) 대한통합의학회 2013 대한통합의학회지 Vol.1 No.4

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to determine the effects of the length of the pectoralis minor on muscle activity of trapezius and pectoralis major in subjects in subjects with shortened pectoralis minor muscle. METHOD: The subjects was participated in 36 with shortened pectoralis minor muscle. All subjects was examined the length test of pectoralis minor muscle. we divided by 3 groups. group Ⅰ(n=12) was for 4∼5cm of length of pectoralis minor muscle, group Ⅱ(n=12) was for 5∼6cm, group Ⅲ(n=12) was for above 6cm. The EMG activity of upper trapezius, middle trapezius, lower trapezius and pectoralis major muscle activity was measured by surface EMG while elevationg the right arm in sitting postion with head to the neutral, shoulder elevation 135° with scaption. Data were analyed using one-way ANOVA with a Tukey post hoc test. RESULT: The EMG activity differed significantly among the three groups(p<.05). The group Ⅲ had significantly greater EMG activity of upper trapezius and pectoralis major muscles than group Ⅰ and Ⅱ(p<.05). Also, The group Ⅲ had significantly smaller EMG activity of lower trapezius muscle than group Ⅰ and Ⅱ(p<.05). But, these was no significant difference in the EMG activity of the middle trapezius muscle among the groups (p.05). CONCLUSION: Therefore, the result of this study should be suggested that the shortened pectoralis minor muscle was affected the EMG activity of the upper trapezius, lower trapezius and pectoralis major. Ultimately the length of the pectoralis minor muscle leads to the muscle imbalance in shoulder girdle.

Pancreatic metastasis from papillary thyroid cancer: a case report and literature review

Song Sang Hwa,Hur Young Hoe,Cho Chol Kyoon,Koh Yang Seok,Park Eun Kyu,Kim Hee Joon,Shin Sang Hoon,Yu Sung Yeol,Oh Chae Yung 대한종양외과학회 2023 Korean Journal of Clinical Oncology Vol.19 No.1

Pancreatic metastasis from papillary thyroid cancer (PTC) is extremely rare; only 18 cases have been reported in the literature. However, several reviews have highlighted similar characteristics between metastatic and primary pancreatic tumors. The patient was a 51-year-old male with a history of total thyroidectomy, modified radical neck dissection, and radioactive iodine ablation for PTC in 2014. Nodules suspected of metastasis were found in both lungs on chest computed tomography (CT). However, after 6 months, a follow-up chest CT showed no increase in size; thus, a follow-up observation was planned. Six years after his initial diagnosis, abdominal CT and pancreas magnetic resonance imaging revealed a 4.7 cm cystic mass with a 2.5 cm enhancing mural nodule in the pancreas tail. We diagnosed the pancreatic lesion as either metastatic cancer or primary pancreas cancer. The patient underwent distal pancreato-splenectomy. After surgery, the pathological report revealed that the mass was metastatic PTC. Pancreatic metastasis from PTC indicates an advanced tumor stage and poor prognosis. However, pancreatectomy can increase the survival rate when the lesion is completely resectable. Therefore, surgical resection should be considered as a treatment for pancreatic metastasis from PTC.

      • Association of plasma osteoprotegerin levels with stroke severity and functional outcome in acute ischaemic stroke patients

        Song, Tae-Jin,Kim, Jinkwon,Yang, Seung-Hee,Park, Ji Hye,Lee, Hye Sun,Nam, Chung Mo,Lee, Ok-Hee,Kim, Young Dae,Nam, Hyo Suk,Heo, Ji Hoe Informa Healthcare 2012 Biomarkers Vol.17 No.8

Osteoprotegerin (OPG) is known to regulate processes involved in vascular injury and inflammation. We investigated the relationship between plasma OPG levels and stroke subtype, stroke severity at admission and functional outcome at 3 months in 172 patients with acute ischaemic stroke. Patients with large artery atherosclerosis and those with multiple causes had higher plasma OPG levels than patients with lacune. Increased plasma OPG levels were independently associated with more severe stroke and poor functional outcome. These results suggest pleiotropic roles of OPG in mediating atherosclerosis and ischaemic brain injury. OPG is a potential biomarker for predicting neurologic outcome in stroke.

      • Issues of workplace in Korea: How to Inspire Temporary Workers?

        Hoe-Chang Yang,Khan Tasnuva,Mu-Yeung Song 한국유통과학회 2012 한국유통과학회 학술대회 논문집 Vol.2012 No.-

This study will focus on motivation of temporary workers working in distributors as well as generic companies, especially MPS (motivating potential score) proposed by job characteristics model. We think that temporary workers required intrinsic motivation in order to commit with their organization becausethey are difficult switch-regular workers due to glass ceiling. In addition, this study will focus on self-efficacy of temporary workers. Because temporary workers do not have the same rights as well as relatively unimportant job compared to full-time workers in their work. Therefore, if they are motivated in their workplace and if they have higher levels of their self-efficacy at the same time, it will be negative impact on their organizational commitmentbecause of the many restrictions due to the status of temporary workers. The results showed that the high level of perceived distributional justice and procedural justice was increased the level of organizational commitment, respectively. And, MPS was increased the level of organizational commitment, too. Finally, this study showed that both justice and Job characteristics were very important to increase organizational commitment. Therefore, in order to inspire temporary workers, the company provides placing enough considering job characteristics as well as fairness of the procedure and distribution. Also, to more fully understand the underlying processes between HRM (Human Resource Management) concepts, new fundamental methods may be required such as switch full-time opportunities.
