Wind loads on a semi-submersible rig were investigated using computational fluid dynamics. A maritime atmospheric boundary layer model for wind profile was implemented such that the wind profile shapes were retained throughout the computational domain. Wind loads on the semi-submersible rig were calculated under the maritime atmospheric boundary layer and matched well with the results from wind tunnel within a ±20% error. Among the topside structures, five structures including deckbox were selected and analyzed on the contribution to the wind load, particularly overturning moments by decomposing the moments into drag and lift components. Overall, moments ignoring lift components tended to overestimate overturning moments by approximately 20% at maximum. The majority of the lift components originated from the deckbox, which served as a lifting body owing to the accelerated streamlines between the waterline and the bottom of the deckbox.

EU 순환경제의 주요 규제 강화인, EU 에코디자인 지침 개정 현황을 살펴보고, 자원효 율성 평가 방법을 분석하였다. 자원효율성 평가 중 산업계 중요물질 선언 방법을 분석하 여 기업이 스스로 산업계 중요물질 선언에 대응할 수 있는 대응 방안(도구)를 제안하였다. 제품의 자원효율성 평가 규제는 국제적으로 처음 시도하는 규제로 산업계 부담이 높은 상 황임으로 본 연구에서 제시한 산업계 중요물질 선언 도구를 토대로 수리가능성, 재활용 가능성 등 다른 자원효율성 평가 도구 개발 및 산업계 안내가 시급하다. The requirements of EU ecodesign directive and material efficiency, a major regulation on circular economy are presented. In particular, the material efficiency evaluation method related to ecodesign directive was analyzed. The tool to declare the use of critical raw materials in energy related products during material efficiency evaluation was proposed. Regulations on the evaluation of product material efficiency are attempted for the first regulation in the world so there are a lot of burden on industry sector. Therefore it is urgent to develop tools and guide the industry to respond to material efficiency evaluation (repairability, recyclability, etc.) based on the proposed tool in this study.

Mean wind load on a semi-submersible rig and an FPSO was investigated by using Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) for the modeling practice developed in Reproducible Offshore CFD JIP. The modeling practice is benchmarked against available model test results for a semi-submersible rig and an FPSO in blind manner between verifiers. For the semi-submersible rig, an even keel and four inclined conditions were considered. The uncertainty levels between verifiers’ results were within 10%. Slightly larger scatter was observed in inclined conditions but did not show any larger than 10% uncertainty level. It was possible to reduce the discrepancy by easing the setting difference from the wind tunnel test by introducing gap around deckbox and columns. For the FPSO, the results were within 3% for forces and within 14% for moments. After considering model test setup including the gap between FPSO hull bottom and turntable, the results were improved and within 10% error between the results and wind tunnel test except for 120 and 240 headings.
Observation of Molecular Self-assembly of Liquid Crystal Urethane-urea from 4,4-azodianilline

Liquid crystalline urethane-urea molecule (LCUU) was prepared via stepwise synthetic method from mono-methoxy poly(ethylene) glycol(M.W.=2000gmol^(-1)) (mPEG), 4,4'-methylenedi-p-phenyl diisocyanate (MDI), and 4,4'-azodianilline (ADA). In the 1st step, ADA and MDI were reacted to form NCO-terminated mesogenic molecular unit. In the 2nd step, the mesogenic unit was reacted with the excess amount of mPEG to form LCUU having urethane-urea linkage. Thermal analysis(DSC) and optical images (POM) revealed the liquid-crystal properties of the LCUU. The LCUU showed surface activity in water solution and CAC (critical aggregate concentration) of the LCUU in the presence of LiCF₃SO₃ was obtained by surface tension analysis. Near the CMC, the LCUU aggregates in the water-ethanol solution were observed by TEM and AFM analyses. The effect of reversible photo (UV) and thermal isomerization of ADA in the mesogenic unit on liquid crystal behavior of the LCUU will be discussed.
A parametric study for a flettner rotor in standalone condition using CFD

In this study, the performance prediction and parametric study of a Flettner rotor in standalone condition was conducted based on a Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) approach. A method for predicting the rotor performance based on steady RANS simulation was established, and the present method was validated with a reference rotor model in which wind tunnel test results were published. The CFD results depending on the turbulence models including k-omega shear stress transport (SST), k-epsilon, Spallart- Almaras and Reynolds stress model, and the non-dimensional wall distance (yþ) as well as boundary conditions were compared with the experimental results. A model scale condition with a similar rotor diameter was considered to apply the CFD analysis method to the target rotor dimension. The CFD results based on the Reynolds number (Re) and y þ values were compared in the model scale. In addition, a comparative analysis was performed on the model and prototype size under the same Re condition. Consequently, an appropriate condition for the CFD analysis was proposed and the lift, drag, torque and energy efficiency of the target rotor design were predicted. Based on this, parametric investigations for the rotor aspect ratios from 4 to 6 and the diameter ratio of the disk and rotor cylinder from 1.5 to 8 were conducted. The effect of aspect ratio was examined by varying the rotor diameter while maintaining the height. Furthermore, the torque components generated by the rotor cylinder and disk owing to the aerodynamic load were analyzed.

Because of paucity of primary cardiac tumors, primary cardiac tumors are of much interest to the pathologist, cardiologist and cardiac surgeon. A cardiac chondrosarcoma, which very rare, is presented as follows: This 37 year-old female patient was admitted under the diagnosis of a left atrial tumor(myxoma) on July 3, 1993. Using the CPB, she underwent complete removal of tumor including the atrial septum. And final pathology report was chondrosarcoma. The adjuvant irradiation with total dose of 5040 cGy(28 fractiations for 2 months) and chemotherapy(VP-16 and ifosfamide) was completed. She had no evidence of recurrence until May 2, 1995. when she was admitted due to brain metastasis, which was detected by MRI scan with a tumor free interval for 2 years. A tumor, located around the frontoparital cortex was removed neurosurgern on Sep. 13, 1995 and the final pathology report was also a chondrosarcoma on pathologic exam. The postoperative course was uneventful. 원발성 심장종양은 희귀성 때문에 병리학자, 심장내과의, 심장외과의에게 흥미로운 질환이다. 저자들은 수술치험한 세계적으로 희귀한 원발성 심장 연골육종을 보고하는 바이다. 환자는 37세의 여자환자로 본원에서 좌심방종양진단하에 1993년 6월 3일 입원하여 개심술하에서 완전 종양절제를 받은 바 있다. 그러나 조직소견상 연골육종이 진단되어 수술후 보조요법으로 방사선조사와 화학요법을 받은후 추적관찰하던 중 1995년 5월까지 종양 재발소견은 없었다. 그러나 환자는 두통과 전신성 경련으로 본원 신경외과에 입원하여 검사상 대뇌 전두엽부위에 단일 전이성 종괴가 발견되어 개두술하 종양절제가 가능하였으며, 조직 검사상 심장종양과 일치를 보였다. 환자는 건강한 상태로 퇴원하였다.
