익숙하며 낯선 건축적 실험 : ‘우리안의 미래 연수원’의 건축사례를 중심으로

경기도 가평군에 위치한 ‘우리안의 미래 연수원’은 강의 · 세미나 · 음악회 · 모임활동 등을 할 수 있도록 만들어진 시설이다. 시설은 강의용 시설과 단기간의 숙박시설 그리고 관리시설로 구성되어있다. 일반적으로 연수원시설은 모든 기능을 집약시켜 대형화된 단일 건물로 만드는 추세이지만, ‘우리안의 미래 연수원’은 각기 작은 단위건축물로 구성하는 방법을 택하고 있다. 연수원은 10채의 건축물로 구성되어있다. 각 건물들의 기능은 다르지만 건축구조방식 · 난방방식 · 건축 재료는 모두 같다. 건축구조방식은 목재와 목재를 철물로 연결하는 후인장(post-tension)방식으로 목구조이다. 난방방식은 버려지는 쓰레기를 태워서 얻어지는 열을 이용하는 바닥 난방식이다. 목구조방식과 열 기계는 모두 기술적 특허를 획득하였다. 연수원 건축에 사용된 주재료는 목재와 흙이다. 연수원의 모습은 언뜻 보면 목재와 흙을 사용한 측면에서 전통건축을 연상시켜 오래된 것처럼 익숙해 보인다. 그것은 자연재료가 주는 친근함에서 오는 느낌일 것이다. ‘우리안의 미래 연수원’의 건축에는 친근함과 함께하는 여러 가지의 기술적 시도가 있다. 그 실험은 낯설어 보이지만 익숙하고, 익숙해 보이면서도 낯선 건축적 실험들이다. ‘우리안의 미래 연수원’의 건축이야기는 단행본(불편을 위하여, 키와채, 2008) 으로 출간되었다. Dream Village, located in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi -do, is a facility catering for classes, seminars, musical concerts and social meetings. The facility comprises class rooms, accommodation for short visits and an administration office. Generally, there is a trend to make the buildings of this kind of facility collective and larger to include all functions. Dream Village, however, is composed of a total often small building units. Though each building has a different function, they all have the same basic structure, heating system and are made from the same construction materials. The buildings are all wooden structures using the post-tension system, in which timbers are connected with iron fittings. They are heated using an under-floor heating system that utilizes heat from incinerating garbage. Both the wooden construction method and the heating system are patented. The main construction materials are wood and earth. At first sight, the appearance of the facility is reminiscent of a collection of Korean traditional buildings insofar as the buildings are constructed from wood and earth. This impression might come from our sense of familiarity with these natural materials. In the construction of Dream Village various technical efforts have been made to create a sense of familiarity. This experimental architecture, therefore, looks strange but familiar, and familiar but strange. The story of the architecture of Dream Village has been published m the book, Bulpyeon ul wihayeo(For the Sake of Inconvenience), 2008.
