Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) is one of the common diseases in elderly men. Recently, the old-aged population has increased, with the interest in the clinical importance of BPH ever growing. This study is designed to investigate the effects of KH-305 on BPH induced rat. The herb formulation KH-305 is consisted of Rubus coreanus, Cornus officinalis and Cuscuta chinensis. An experimental prostatic hyperplasia was induced in male rats by the administration of testosterone propionate, 3 mg/kg SC, for 2 months. The rats were divided into 3 experimental groups: the control, BPH-induced, oral KH- 305 ingestion group. After 2 months, the prostates were removed, and analyzed for their prostatic weight and histological examination. The prostate weights were measured in each group, and found to be 820±38mg, 3140±26mg, 1880±21mg in the control, BPH-induced, and oral KH-305 ingestion group, respectively. The BPH induced group showed statistically significant increases in their prostatic weights compared with control group(p<0.05) but oral KH-305 ingestion group showed more significant decreases than BPH-induced group statically(p<0.05). Histologically injected testosterone lead to prostatic hyperplasia in rats, but oral KH-305 ingestion decreased this change. These results suggest that KH-305 may be effective in treatment of BPH, and complementary medicine of BPH.

Mentoring has been identified as an effective means of leadership development in organizations. This study presents a theory of mentoring as a form of social interaction and motivation in developing coach-athlete relationships. Participants were 6 intercollegiate athletes who participated in in-depth interview. Qualitative data revealed that a successful mentoring program may be an important factor in positively influencing proteges' perceptions of career success and organizational commitment. In addition, results also suggested that both career enhancement and psycho-social functions of the mentoring process were valued by the protege. Implications for practitioners and future research are discussed.

This study was carried out to investigate the effects of tissue inhibitor of matalloproteinase-1 (TIMP-1), ActivinA and Heparin binding epidermal growth factor (HB-EGF) on in vitro production of bovine embryos. In experiment1, presumptive zygotes were cultured in the medium supplemented with TIMP-1 (0.5 μg/ml), Activin A (100 ng/ml),or HB-EGF (100 ng/ml) at 39 ℃ in a humidified atmosphere of 5% (v/v) CO2, 5% (v/v) O2 and 90% (v/v) N2. Inexperiment 2, TIMP-1 + HB-EGF or Activin A + HB-EGF combinations were supplemented in the culture medium. The developmental rate to blastocysts, hatching rate and total cell numbers of the blastocysts were evaluated in bothexperiments. The embryos cultured in medium without growth factor supplementation was used as control group. Inexperiment 1, the embryos cultured in medium supplemented with TIMP-1 and Activin A showed significantly higherdevelopmental rate to blastocysts than those cultured with HB-EGF and control (36.9%, 34.1%, 21.2% and 23.1%,respectively) (P<0.0001). However, the hatching rate of blastocyst was significantly higher in embryos with HB-EGFthan those with TIMP-1, Actvin A and Control groups (84.4%, 58.8%, 51.4% and 49.3%, respectively) (P<0.001). Total cell number per blastocyst was also significantly higher in embryos with HB-EGF group (174.3±2.5) than thosewith TIMP-1, Activin A (149.7 and 150.0, respectively) (P<0.05) and Control (119.0) (P<0.001). In experiment 2,embryos cultured with combined treatment of Activin A and HB-EGF resulted in significantly higher rates ofblastocysts formation (48.0%), hatching rate (89.7%) and total cell number in blastocyst (182.3±2.1) than those withTIMP-1 and HB-EGF combination group (32.0%, P<0.001; 76.6%, P<0.05; 165.7±4.2, P<0.001, respectively). Ourdata demonstrate that in vitro production of bovine embryos could be improved by combined supplementation ofActivin A and HB-EGF in culture medium.

Incidence of arrhythmias during anesthesia increases in their frequency, because of the average sur?gical patients tend to be older than in the past. And cardiovascular surgery was performed more frequently to-day. Prompt recognition, skillful treatment and prevention of the cardiac arrhythmias may determine the successful outcome of the anesthesia and surgery. Out of the total 1370 surgical cases, 256 cases were selected for evaluation of cardiac condition during surgery, because the latter were suspected to have some cardiac problems preoperatively. Of these 256 cases, ECG was checked preoperatively and the incidence of arrhythmias during anes?thesia were observed. The results were as follows; 1. Arrhythmias had been found preoperatively in 84 cases among the 256 cases studied (32.8%). The incidence of arrhythmia for the total 1370 surgical patients was 6.1%. 2. In the above 84 cases, 30 cases developed arrhythmia during anesthesia (35.7%). The remaining 172 cases which had showed normal cardiac rhythm preoperatively, developed arrhythmia in 36 cases (20.8%). Therefore, out of the 256 cases, 66 cases developed arrhythmia during anesthesia (25.8%). 3. Types of arrhythmias found during anesthesia were ventricular premature contraction (40.9%), sinus tachycardia (36.4%), atrial premature contraction (9.1%), sinus bradycardia (7.6%), right bundle branch block (1.5%), left bundle branch block(1.5%), atrial fibrillation(1.5%) and ventricular fibrillation (1.5%). 4. Incidence of arrhythmias concerning about sex was 53.0>% in the male and 47.0% in the female. 5. For the types of the surgery, high incidence of arrhythmia was found in the dental, E. N. T. , and urological surgery. (The majority number of the patients were the geriatric cases.) 6. Incidence of arrhythmias concerning about the anesthesia time were 59.1% within 3 hours of anesthesia and 40.9% over 3 hours of anesthesia. 7. The incidence of arrhythmias during the induction period was 45.5% and during the mrii tenance period was 28.8%. And incidence of arrhythmias through induction period to maintenance period was 25.7%.
