Behavior of Lateral Earth Pressure around the Underpass Constructed by the STS Construction Method
Jin, Kyu-Nam,Kim, Hyo-Jin,Sim, Young-Jong Land and Housing Institute 2016 LHI journal of land, housing, and urban affairs Vol.7 No.4
Recently developed trenchless construction methods ensure stability for the ground settlement by inserting steel pipes along the underpass section and integrating steel pipes before ground excavation to form pipe-roof. This study is to confirm the reinforcing effect of pipe-roof by measuring lateral earth pressure acting on the underpass constructed by the STS (Steel Tube Slab) construction method. For this purpose, lateral earth pressure was measured at the left and right side of the pipe-roof after installing earth pressure cells. As a result, lateral earth pressure was measured with considerable reduction because the integrated pipe-roof shared surcharge. Therefore, economic design for the underpass could be expected by sharing design load by pipe-roof. In addition, construction cost was analyzed according to the design-load sharing ratio by pipe-roof. As pipe-roof shares design load by 40%, the total construction cost can decrease by almost 10% in the case of four-lane underpass.

The field is designed to provide a healthy place to think about the environment and to improve the quality of life in the smallest number of sanitation facilities for human life. In this study, the characteristics of different materials and economic effects of each method are compared to check the applicability of the field. Two materials were used to compare the economic feasibility of different joint styles with the a copper pipe and STS pipes. When the Easy - Joint method of the STS tube was combined with the costs of intuition, joints and labor, it was found that it was the least expensive of the different types of bonding methods.

During welding of structure, non-uniform thermal distribution is occurred by local heating and conduction in copula. This process causes non-uniform thermal deformation and that occurs thermal stress. Especially, pipe is used in shipbuilding and laying pipe is essential. As well pipe material is applied with STS 316L (Stainless Steel) and STS Duplex(Stainless Steel Duplex) in LNG carrier ship. So welding property of that material is studied in order to predict welding deformation and thermal stress. First of all each material is made a experiment to know thermal dis- tribution and shrinkage deformation. Through this experiment, it was possible to obtain differences in welding shrinkage due to the mechanical and thermal properties of the two materials. As a result, basic data on welding shrinkage for each material were obtained, and it will be used to develop a prediction equation through additional re- search in the future.

Recently, the Steel Tube Slab (STS) curtain method has been successfully used in the construction of ultra-shallow metro stations in modern urban areas. By using the STS curtain method, the external surfaces of pipes are welded with flange slabs, and then the pipes are jacked into soils. However, the nature and extent of the influence of flange slabs on the calculation of jacking force is unclear. This paper presents the first combined theoretical and case study to calculate the increase of jacking forces for circular steel pipes with welded flange slabs during the entire jacking process. The increase of jacking forces was assumed to balance the friction at the soil-pipeline interface. Theoretical formulae were firstly developed to calculate earth pressure based on pressure arch theory and elastic foundation beam theory. A case study was then performed to verify the theoretical results with the field data from Olympic Metro Station on the Shenyang Metro Line 9 in China. Subsequently, factors influencing the calculation of jacking force were analyzed and discussed. Results show that the theoretical formulae produced good results with minor errors. The implications of these findings regarding the prediction of jacking force and selection of hydraulic jack are discussed.

In this study, in order to manufacture STS 316L seamless pipes with 18mm, 25mm, and 42mm diameters that can be used for high pressure, we intend to make predictions through design and finite element analysis and produce real objects. It was measured to have the highest hardness value in the deformed part, and it is expected to be due to work hardening. It has been interpreted that plastic deformation does not occur up to 1,000bar for STS 316L seamless pipes with a diameter of 18mm and 25mm, but plastic deformation occurs at 900bar or more in STS 316L seamless pipes with a diameter of 42mm.
