In this work, we have studied the optical properties of wurtizite zinc-oxide films grown on silicon (100) substrates by means of pulsed laser deposition (PLD). Spectroscopic ellipsometry and three dispersion models, namely, the Sellmeier, Cauchy, and Forouhi-Bloomer models, were applied for determining the optical constants of the ZnO thin films. A comparison was made between two samples that were deposited for 30 minutes (sample I) and 60 minutes (sample II), respectively. X-ray diffraction analysis indicates that there are two types of preferred-orientation, i.e., (101) and (100) orientations for sample I and II, respectively. Results show that the Cauchy model gives the best fit for the samples with least root mean square error (RMSE) whereas the Forouhi-Bloomer model is most suitable for the data analysis in both the transparent and the absorption regions. The optical properties extracted from different dispersion models have been compared with the data reported in the literature. Study of the Ultimate Load Capacity of K-Type Tube-Gusset Plate Connections

In order to investigate the ultimate load capacity of K-type tube-gusset plate connections with stiff ened plate, the static tests of fi ve full-scale specimens were conducted in this study. The results indicate that the end stiff ened plate is critical for improving the load capacity of the connections. In addition, the parametric nonlinear fi nite element analysis of the K-type tube-gusset plate specimens was performed with account of such non-dimensional parameters as chord diameter-to-thickness ratio ( γ ), plate width-to-chord diameter ratio ( α ), plate thickness-to-chord thickness ratio ( 1 ), stiff ened plate thickness ( t d ), and nominal-to-yield stress ratio ( η ). The above analysis implies that the ultimate load capacity decreases with the increment of γ and increases with the increment of α and 1 , while it is only slightly aff ected by the stiff ened plate thickness. Compare the results of the fi nite element analysis with assessment by design guides existing. Based on the former results, an equation for estimating the load capacity of K-type tube-stiff ened gusset plate is proposed.
A fast monitoring method for multiple operating batch processes with incomplete modeling data types

For complex industrial processes with multiple operating conditions, a novel fast monitoring method,called up-down multi-model dynamic principal component analysis, is proposed with incompletemodeling data types in this paper. The method firstly classifies the process into several stages accordingto the operations. In each stage the data with similar operations are clustered together. Multiple modelstructures are constructed along with the variation of the cluster number. When on-linemonitoring, theup-down monitoringmethod is proposed to monitor a new batch type. The effectiveness of the proposedmonitoring method is demonstrated through the 120 t ladle furnace (LF) steelmaking process.
Expression of IER3 in Primary Hepatocarcinoma: Correlation with Clinicopathological Parameters

Background: Studies indicate the immediate early response gene 3 (IER3) is involved in many biological processes. Recently, it was discovered that IER3 plays an important role in tumorigenesis and tumor progression. Thus it may be a valuable biomarker in tumor. This study was designed to investigate the expression status of IER3 in primary hepatocarcinoma (PHC) and correlation with clinicopathological parameters. Materials and Methods: Real-time PCR was performed to evaluate the expression levels of IER3 in 62 pathologically diagnosed human PHC specimens. Results: A statistically significant association was disclosed between the expression of IER3 and P53 mutant protein (short for P53), Ki-67, EGFR and the biggest diameter, differentiation grade of tumor. Conclusions: This work is the first to shed light on the potential clinical usefulness of IER3, as an efficient tumor biomarker in PHC.

HMGN5 is a typical member of the HMGN (high mobility group nucleosome-binding protein) family which may function as a nucleosomal binding and transcriptional activating protein. Overexpression of HMGN5 has been observed in several human tumors but its role in tumorigenesis has not been fully clarified. To investigate its significance for human lung cancer progression, we successfully constructed a shRNA expression lentiviral vector in which sense and antisense sequences targeting the human HMGN5 were linked with a 9-nucleotide loop. Inhibitory effects of siRNA on endogenous HMGN5 gene expression and protein synthesis were demonstrated via real-time RT-PCR and western blotting. We found HMGN5 silencing to significantly inhibit A549 and H1299 cell proliferation assessed by MTT, BrdU incorporation and colony formation assays. Furthermore, flow cytometry analysis showed that specific knockdown of HMGN5 slowed down the cell cycle at the G0/G1 phase and decreased the populations of A549 and H1299 cells at the S and G2/M phases. Taken together, these results suggest that HMGN5 is directly involved in regulation cell proliferation in A549 and H1299 cells by influencing signaling pathways involved in cell cycle progression. Thus, our finding suggests that targeting HMGN5 may be an effective strategy for human lung cancer treatment.

Cathepsins are well-characterized proteases that are ubiquitously expressed in lysosomes. Previous work revealed that Bombyx mori cathepsins B and D are expressed in the fat body and undergo decomposition during larval-pupal metamorphosis. Quantitative RTPCR was performed to detect cathepsin gene expression at the transcription level when challenged by B. mori nuclear polyhedrosis virus (BmNPV), temperature and hormones (20-hydroxyecdysone (20E) and juvenile hormone analogue (JHA)). mRNAs encoding cathepsins B and D were significantly enhanced after the larvae were infected with BmNPV, and the peak of the induction appeared at 1 day before spinning. This attenuated the inducing effect on cathepsin expression caused by infection. Temperature shock induced cathepsin expression at the later stage of the 5th instar, and transcription levels varied with development stage and temperature. Cathepsin B and D mRNA expression in the fat body were significantly induced by JHA at the day before spinning, and with 20E, the expression reached a peak at the last day of the 5th instar. Cathepsin B and D mRNA expression exhibited detectable changes post-treatment, without significant differences between or among the hormone concentrations.
