College student perceptions about the incorporation of cultural elements in fashion design

The cultural and creative industries have received considerable global attention in recent years; in particular, the close relationship between these industries and design has been identified. Because mysterious and attractive East Asian aesthetic are a crucial contemporary style, this study examined a fashion exhibition held in the New York Metropolitan Museum, which entitled “China: Through the Looking Glass” and conducted a literature review, scale design, survey and data analysis, and factor analysis about the incorporation of cultural elements in fashion design. Subsequently, the perceptions of college students with various educational backgrounds on several selected exhibits were identified and analyzed. The results were revealed that: (1) the research scale can be used as a reference for related design teaching and in the appraisal of fashion products in the design industry; (2) cultural connotations are more notable in design than the technical aspects; (3) compared with students of other backgrounds, students with a background in fashion design emphasized more on the technical and professional aspects and expressed a preference for design pieces with experimental qualities, such as those made with stiff materials and having exaggerated styles, and neutral and neat straight lines.

Leptin is a peptide hormone, which has a central role in the regulation of body weight; it also exerts many potentially atherogenic effects. Ferulic acid ethyl ester (FAEE) has been approved for antioxidant properties. The aim of this study was to investigate whether FAEE can inhibit the atherogenic effects of leptin and the possible molecular mechanism of its action. Both of cell proliferation and migration were measured when the aortic smooth muscle cell (A10 cell) treated with leptin and/or FAEE. Phosphorylated p44/42MAPK, cell cycle-regulatory protein (for example, cyclin D1, p21, p27), β-catenin and matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9) proteins levels were also measured. Results demonstrated that leptin (10, 100 ng ml−1) significantly increased the proliferation of cells and the phosphorylation of p44/42MAPK in A10 cells. The proliferative effect of leptin was significantly reduced by the pretreatment of U0126 (0.5 μM), a MEK inhibitor, in A10 cells. Meanwhile, leptin significantly increased the protein expression of cyclin D1, p21, β-catenin and decreased the expression of p27 in A10 cells. In addition, leptin (10 ng ml−1) significantly increased the migration of A10 cells and the expression of MMP-9 protein. Above effects of leptin were significantly reduced by the pretreatment of FAEE (1 and 10 μM) in A10 cells. In conclusion, FAEE exerts multiple effects on leptin-induced cell proliferation and migration, including the inhibition of p44/42MAPK phosphorylation, cell cycle-regulatory proteins and MMP-9, thereby suggesting that FAEE may be a possible therapeutic approach to the inhibition of obese vascular disease.
The Design of an Intelligent Aquaculture Systsm Based on Iot and Lora Technologies

In Taiwan, the export-oriented economy of traditional aquaculture is faced with the harshest conditions, such as environmental pollution, diseases and drug overdose. In addition, the traditional aquaculture fields are usually open-air for costing a lot on employing labors. Consequently, it is necessary to set up an intelligent aquaculture system for solving the above problems effectively. This study which was based on these technologies of internet of things (IoT), cloud computing and Long Range Low Power Wide Area Network (LoRa LPWAN), was designed a daily management system for auto-controlling on production planning, energy conservation and reducing labor costs. The users can operate this system which can both monitor the water quality and control these real-time aquaculture parameters (temperature, pH, illuminance and electrical conductivity) by simply using the remote user interface. This system is a modular design that is user-friendly and portable. After all, we expect that it will be great helpful to construct an automatic control platform for improving aquaculture efficiency in future.

Objective Metabolic abnormalities, e.g., diabetes, are common among schizophrenia patients. Peroxisome proliferator activated receptor-γ (PPAR-γ) regulates glucose/lipid metabolisms, and schizophrenia like syndrome may be induced by actions involving retinoid X receptor-α/PPAR-γ heterodimers. We examined a possible role of the PPAR-γ gene in metabolic traits and psychosis profile in schizophrenia patients exposed to antipsychotics. Methods Single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) of the PPAR-γ gene and a serial of metabolic traits were determined in 394 schizophrenia patients, among which 372 were rated with Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale (PANSS). Results SNP-10, -12, -18, -19, -20 and -26 were associated with glycated hemoglobin (HbA1c) whereas SNP-18, -19, -20 and -26 were associated with fasting plasma glucose (FPG). While SNP-23 was associated with triglycerides, no associations were identified between the other SNPs and lipids. Further haplotype analysis demonstrated an association between the PPAR-γ gene and psychosis profile. Conclusion Our study suggests a role of the PPAR-γ gene in altered glucose levels and psychosis profile in schizophrenia patients exposed to antipsychotics. Although the Pro12Ala at exon B has been concerned an essential variant in the development of obesity, the lack of association of the variant with metabolic traits in this study should not be treated as impossibility or a proof of error because other factors, e.g., genes regulated by PPAR-γ, may have complicated the development of metabolic abnormalities. Whether the PPAR-γ gene modifies the risk of metabolic abnormalities or psychosis, or causes metabolic abnormalities that lead to psychosis, remains to be examined.

형광선폭좁힘법(FLN)을 이용하여 30K에서 10K까지 Li-phosphate 유리속에 들어있는 Nd^(3+)이온의 ^(4)F_(3/2) (1)-^(4)I_(9/2)(1) 전이의 homogeneous 선폭의 온도의존성을 연구했다. 이 때 고출력 맥동 LiF:F_(2)^(+)색중심 레이저와 Fabry-perot 분광계를 사용하여 homogeneous 선폭을 측정했다. Homogeneous 선폭이 T^(2.4) 에 따라 변하는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 이 결과는 유리속에 들어있는 다른 희토류 이온에서 관찰된 광전이 선폭의 온도의존성과 비교해 보았다. The fluorescence line narrowing technique (FLN) has been used to study the temperature dependence of the homogeneous linewidth of the ^(4)F_(3/2) (1) -^(4)I_(9/2)(1) transition of Nd^(3+) ions in a Li-phosphate glass from 30 to 10K. We have used a high-power narrow band LiF:F_(2)^(+) pulsed color center laser together with a fabry-perot etalon spectrometer to measure the homogeneous linewidth of the transition. The homogeneous linewidth is found to vary as T^(2.4). This behavior is compared to that observed for other rate earth optical transitions in inorganic glasses.
음곡(陰谷)(KI10)에 시술한 오가피(五加皮) 약침(藥鍼)이 난소적출 생쥐의 골다공증(骨多孔症)에 미치는 영향

Objective: The purpose of this study is to observe the effects of herbal-acupuncture with Acanthopanacis cortex extract (AC-HA) at KI10 (Eumgok) on osteoporosis in ovariectomized (OVX) ddy mice. Methods: We carried out several experimental items to analyze the changes in body weight, uterine weight, uterus index, tibial Length, the ash bone weight, tibial BMD, serum ALP, serum creatinine, serum osteocalcin, serum Ca, and the Levels of Ca, P, Ca/P ratio in tibia, and we performed histological and histomorphological analysis as well. Results: Tibial BMD was significantly decreased by OVX, while significantly increased by AC-HA at KI10. Serum creatinine Level was significantly increased by OVX, while significantly decreased by AC-HA at KI10. Serum osteocalcin Level was significantly increased by OVX, while significantly decreased by AC-HA at KI10. Tibial TBV(trabecular bone volume) was significantly decreased by OVX, while significantly increased by AC-HA at KI10. AC-HA at KI10 significantly suppressed the OVX-induced increase of GPL(growth plate Length) of tibia in mice. Conclusion : These results suggest that AC-HA at KI10 has a therapeutic effect on osteoporosis in OVX mice.
