We experimentally measured the cold cavity loss of a mode-locked erbium-doped fiber ring laser in situ by using the relaxation oscillation frequency method. The relaxation oscillation frequency is measured for various pumping powers and the data is fitted by the least squares method with a theoretical curve of parameters including the cavity loss. We obtained a cavity loss of 15.3$\pm$0.5 dB which was found to agree with the results of direct transmission loss measurements.
Topological Insulators for Mode-Locking of 2-μm Fiber Lasers

<P>We performed density functional theory calculations for the topological insulators (TIs) of Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3 </SUB> and CoSb<SUB>3</SUB> (skutterudite) in a comparison with Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> and In<SUB>2</SUB>Co<SUB>4 </SUB>Sb<SUB>12</SUB> (filled skutterudite) to explore whether the former TIs can serve as saturable-absorption materials for laser mode-locking at the wavelengths of 2 μm and beyond. The calculated electronic-band structures and optical-absorption spectra indicate the potential of these TIs in terms of midinfrared saturable-absorption applications. Especially, in consideration of the film and bulk forms of Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3 </SUB> and Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB>, we investigated the electronic and/or optical properties of the metallic surface states and the semiconducting interior states, respectively. They exhibited an excellent broadband operability regardless of the state, and particularly, we noted a linearly dispersive relation around the Fermi levels of all of the electrons of the Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3</SUB> surface in both the conduction and valence bands, whereas this is not evident for Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB>. Assuming the importance of linear dispersion for a fast electronic relaxation, and considering the decent oxidation resistance of the Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3</SUB> surface, we suggest that Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Se<SUB>3</SUB> is superior to Bi<SUB>2</SUB>Te<SUB>3</SUB> for midinfrared mode-locking. A review of the experimental studies regarding TI-based 2-μm saturable absorbers that have been performed so far is presented, and the discussion and rationalization of the possible universality of TIs regarding mid- to far-infrared passive mode lockers results in the suggestion of a new CoSb<SUB>3</SUB>-TI-based saturable absorber.</P>

Psychiatric side effects of oseltamivir can result in accident-proneness and suicide. Reportedly, such adverse psychiatric events are more common in children than in adults, but other risk factors are not known. We present a 13-year-old girl with influenza infection who developed manic symptoms after taking oseltamivir and receiving the human papillomavirus vaccination. While other research has found that psychiatric side effects associated with oseltamivir generally occur within 48 hours after beginning administration, in this case the manic symptoms developed on the fourth day after cessation of 5-day course of oseltamivir administration. Based on our review of this case, we recommend that clinicians should carry out vigilant monitoring of each patient’s mental state when the patient is young, has a family history of psychiatric disorder, has drug sensitivity and has received medical treatments such as vaccination before or after taking oseltamivir. In addition, as side effects of oseltamivir may occur more than 48 hours after administration, it will be necessary to observe patients for several days after the prescription of oseltamivir.
Pulse-amplitude equalization using a polarization-maintaining laser resonator.

<P>For the first time to our knowledge, pulse-amplitude equalization of rational-harmonically mode-locked fiber ring laser pulses has been experimentally demonstrated using a polarization-maintaining laser resonator without any additional device. The pulse-amplitude distribution of the laser pulses was controlled by the modulator driving power, and stable pulse-amplitude-equalized pulses with repetition rates of 20, 30, and 40 GHz have been obtained in the linear region of the modulator.</P>
Temperature Profile in the Presence of Hotspots in Heat Assisted Magnetic Recording

<P>Recently, the demands for increasing memory capacities in hard disk drives (HDDs) has resulted in state-of-the-art technologies including heat assisted magnetic recording (HAMR) with significantly higher operating temperatures. HAMR results in swift degradation of current lubricant and carbon overcoat (COC) materials, leading to magnetic media corrosion which is detrimental to HDD operation. In addition, the lack of thorough understanding of the temperature profiles arising from the hotspot and energy management throughout these materials also exacerbates the problem. To address this issue, in this paper we will focus on the COC and investigate the transient heat transfer in various examples of nanoscale thin films when a hot spot is created via lattice Boltzmann method (LBM) since traditional conduction models like Fourier law are not accurate due to dominant sub-continuum effects. LBM originates from the Boltzmann transport equations (BTEs) and is computationally efficient due to easy parallelization with convenient handling of complex geometries. Our results of the heat transfer mechanism and temperature profiles show that Fourier equation under-predicts the peak temperature rise at the center of the hot-spot as the system size approaches the nanoscale domain. Applying LBM to a multilayered system, we observe a temperature slip along the interface of two materials indicated by the broken isothermal contours, as the heat is confined to a single layer. Using LBM, we then explore a novel graphene overcoat which has outstanding thermo-mechanical properties, and thereby extremely compatible in HAMR applications.</P>

Objectives The treatment rate for mental illness is low in Korea (22%) compared to Western countries (40-50%). Thus, Gwangju city commenced a mental health project termed “Mind Doctor” in 2016. Psychiatrists regularly visit mental health centers to provide services, including counseling. This paper summarizes the achievements and significance of the project. Methods The project has been in progress for four years. This study evaluated 7,483 clients assisted by 322 center staff and 55 participating psychiatrists. The characteristics of the mental health center and addiction management center clients were identified. The center staff opinions and satisfaction were analyzed. Results Psychiatrists placed in community mental health services played a variety of roles as counselors, supervisors, lecturers, and program organizers. During the time since the project commenced, referral rates to mental health clinics after in-center counseling increased from 9.4% to 41.6%. Half of the psychiatrists worked in psychiatric hospitals (45.5%), and were in their 30s (43.6%). Of those seen by psychiatrists in mental health centers, 42% were aged under 30 years, and almost half were male (46%). Most clients were satisfied with their consultations (90%) and were willing to recommend the project to others (88%). More than 85% of center staff responded positively to the project, particularly in 2019. Conclusion “Mind Doctor” readily identified the mental problems of community residents and provided smooth referrals to mental health clinics. Collaboration between the psychiatrists and mental health workers in mental health centers contributed to mental health promotion and early intervention to treat mental problems.

포토리소그래피(photolithography) 공정만을 이용하여 단일벽 탄소 나노튜브 (single-walled carborn nanotube; SWCNT)가 실리콘 기판 위에 선택적으로 흡착되는 공정 방법이 이전에 보고되었다. 본 논문에서는 이 간단한 SWCNT 조립공정을 이용하여 전계효과 트랜지스터 (field emission transistor; FET)의 채널 형성 방법이 설명 되었다. 또한, 실제 제작된 SWCNT 기반 FET 소자의 전류 전압특성이 조사되었다. FET의 SWCNT 채널은 포토리소그래피 공정만을 이용하여 산화막(SiO₂)이 형성된 실리콘 기판위에 흡착되었다. 즉, 포토리소그래피 공정에 의해 SWCNT가 흡착될 부분(채널부분)의 포토레지스트가 제기된 패턴이 형성된 기판은 SWCNT가 분산된 다이클로로벤젠 (dichlorobenzene)용액 속에 담가진다. 결과적으로 SWCNT는 시료 표면 전체에 흡착되고 포토레지스트 패턴이 제거되면, 채널부분(소오스와 드레인 전극사이)에 선택적으로 SWCNT 패턴들이 형성된다. 이 조립공정이 이용됨으로서 SWCNT 패턴이 채널로 구성된 FET가 성공적으로 제작되었다.

Objective: To investigate the effects of dietary habits on general and abdominal obesity in community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder according to sex. Methods: A total of 270 patients with schizophrenia spectrum disorder registered at mental health welfare centers and rehabilitation facilities were recruited. General obesity was defined as a body mass index ≥ 30 kg/㎡, and abdominal obesity was defined as a waist circumstance ≥ 90 cm in men and ≥ 85 cm in women. Dietary habits were evaluated using dietary guidelines published by the Korean Ministry of Health and Welfare. Demographic and clinical characteristics along with dietary habits and information related to obesity were collected. Factors related to obesity were evaluated separately by sex. Results: Dietary habits differed according to sex, in that scores for healthy eating habits were lower in men than in women. In men, the prevalences of general and abdominal obesity were 17.0% and 37.3%, respectively. In women, the prevalences of general and abdominal obesity were 23.1% and 38.5%, respectively. Regression analysis showed that the scores of regular eating habits were negatively associated with general and abdominal obesity in men, and the scores of healthy eating habits were negatively associated with general and abdominal obesity in women. Conclusion: Among patients with schizophrenia, regular eating habits might reduce the risk of obesity in men, and healthy eating habits might reduce the risk of obesity in women. Nutrition education should be provided to community-dwelling patients with schizophrenia to prevent obesity in this population.
