        Transcriptome analysis of colchicine-induced tetraploid Kiwifruit leaves with increased biomass and cell size

        Colchicine-induced polyploidization has been extensively utilized in plant-breeding programs to increase biomass and overall yield of various crop species. Chromosome doubling usually increases the plant size and cell size. However, the underly- ing mechanisms remain elusive. In this study, we showed that 0.1% colchicine is an optimized concentration for inducing tetraploidization of Actinidia chinensis var. chinensis ‘Hongyang’, a commercially important diploid kiwifruit cultivar. The tetraploid plants showed increased plant height, leaf size, and biomass, as compared with the corresponding diploid plants. Scanning electron microscopy and histological analysis indicated that the leaf cell size was significantly increased in the tetraploid plants. Our further transcriptome analysis revealed the 5922 differentially expressed genes between the diploid and tetraploid plants. Gene Ontology analysis enriched the cell wall-related genes, including the pectin methylesterases (PMEs) and expansins (EXPs), both of which play a critical role in cell wall loosening and extension. The increased expression of PME and EXP genes might contribute to the increased cell size in the tetraploid plants. Together, our work indicated that tetraploidization increases the organ and cell size in kiwifruit, possibly by enhancing the cell wall extensibility.

        Study of oil-particle-aggregation by digital inline holograph

        This study was performed to visually analyse the relationship between particles and oil in seawater by digital holograph technology. Two types of particles with different sizes were chosen to form oil-particle aggregates (OPAs) in the laboratory to determine whether these particles may be a good approach to safely and harmoniously recover marine environment after an oil spill. The processes were recorded by a digital inline holographic system, which could facilitate a continuous real-time three-dimensional in situ observation of oil droplets and OPAs without touching these particles. The visual results showed that, in the micro scale, the particles formed two different types of OPA after breaking the oil film and transported oil into the bottom of the water, while some OPAs could be resuspended.

        For extending the power and improving the performance of SVG, a topology with several parallel plugging convertor modules is obtained, which has no common DC bus. In respect that the parameter difference among converters, reactive power of total output sharing has to be resolved. In this article, mathematics model with DQ analytic transformation is analyzed. Based on double close-loop decoupling control, and direct current control, a reactive power balance current sharing method is proposed. By using CPS-SPWM, the current harmonic of SVG is reduced, which is indicated by simulation result. Further, in order to apply the method to project application, a 2Mvar platform with a double FPGA-DSP controller broad is carried out. The simulation and practical performance of SVG are given. The validity and feasibility of the method is demonstrated by the results.

        Differential Expression of miR-34c and Its Predicted Target Genes in Testicular Tissue at Different Development Stages of Swine

        To verified the target genes of miR-34c, bioinformatics software was used to predict the targets of miR-34c. Three possible target genes of miR-34c related to spermatogenesis and male reproductive development: zinc finger protein 148 (ZNF148), kruppel-like factor 4 (KLF4), and platelet-derived growth factor receptor alpha (PDGFRA) were predicted. Then, the expression of miR-34c and its target genes were detected in swine testicular tissue at different developmental stages by quantitative polymerase chain reaction. The results suggested that the expression of PDGFRA has the highest negative correlation with miR-34c. Then immunohistochemical staining was done to observe the morphology of swine testicular tissue at 2-days and 3, 4, 5-months of age, which indicated that PDGFRA was mainly expressed in the support cells near the basement membrane during the early development stages of testicular tissue, but that the expression of PDGFRA was gradually reduced in later stages. Therefore, western blot analyzed that the highest expression of PDGFRA was generated in 2-days old testicular tissues and the expression levels reduced at 3 and 4-months old, which correlated with the results of immunohistochemical staining. In conclusion, PDGFRA is a target gene of miR-34c.

        Electrochemical Performance of Lithium-Ion Capacitors Using Pre-Lithiated Multiwalled Carbon Nanotubes as Anode

        Pre-lithiated multiwalled carbon nanotube anode was prepared by internal short circuit approach (ISC) for 5 min, 30 min, 60 min and 120 min respectively. Lithium ion capacitors (LICs) were assembled by using pre-lithiated multiwalled carbon nanotubes as anodes and activated carbon (AC) as cathodes. The structure of multiwalled carbon nanotubes and electrodes were investigated by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The electrochemical performance of pre-lithiated multiwalled carbon nanotube electrodes and pristine carbon nanotube electrodes were tested by galvanostatic charge/discharge and electrochemical impedance. The results indicated that pre-lithiation carbon nanotubes greatly improved the charge/discharge performance of LICs. The energy density was four times than conventional electric double-layer capacitors (EDLCs) at the current density of 100 mA/g. The LICs achieved a specific capacitance of 59.3 F/g at the current density of 100 mA/g with 60 min pre-lithiatiation process. The maximum energy density and power density was 96Wh/kg and 4035W/kg, respectively. The energy density still remained about 89.0% after 1000 cycles. The LIC showed excellent supercapacitor performance.

        Nanoparticle-free, Fluorine-free, and Robust Superhydrophobic Cotton Fabric Fabricated Using a Combination of Etching Method and Mist Polymerization Technology

        Immobilizing inorganic or organic particles on cotton fabric to increase the surface roughness, followed by coatingwith low surface reagents to reduce the surface energy, are the dominant strategies to prepare the superhydrophobic cottonsurface. However, the inorganic or organic particles can easily fall off the surface of the fabrics. Thus, the surface roughnessof the fabric could be reduced during the process, resulting in the poor durability of the superhydrophobic fabric. In this work,the surface of the cotton fabric was etched by cellulase. Following this, the treated fabric was grafted using a diblockcopolymer (poly[(methyl methacrylate)-b-(2-(dimethylamino)ethyl)] (PMMA-b-PDMAEMA)), which was synthesizedfollowing the reversible addition-fragmentation chain transfer (RAFT) polymerization process. The mist polymerizationtechnology was used for the process. The coatings successfully endowed the cotton fabric with superhydrophobic properties. The maximum WCA value recorded was 159.9 °. The treated fabric exhibited excellent mechanical and chemical stability. Moreover, the modified cotton sample also exhibited good self-cleaning effects in the presence of solid dust and liquidcontaminants. It also exhibited excellent oil-water separation properties. Therefore, the superhydrophobic fabric preparedusing a combination of the etching method and mist polymerization technology can find its potential application in home andindustrial areas.

        Development and Validation of the Humanistic Practice Ability of Nursing Scale

        Purpose The purpose of this study was to develop a Humanistic Practice Ability of Nursing (HPAN) scale adapted to China and validate its psychometric properties. Methods The original HPAN scale was revised through a literature review. Sixteen experts who met the inclusion criteria were consulted 2 rounds by the Delphi method. According to their suggestions and opinions, the structure, content, and semantics of each item of HPAN were modified, and a HPAN scale was preliminarily developed. The HPAN scale was validated through item analysis, exploratory factor analysis, convergent validity, and reliability. The data came from 406 first-class hospital nurses. Results A 5-dimension, 29-item HPAN scale demonstrated satisfactory fit with significant factor loadings. The split-half reliability coefficient of the scale was .98, the split-half reliability coefficient of each dimension was .86–.99, Cronbach's α coefficient was .96, and the Cronbach's α coefficient of each dimension was .87–.98. The model fit of the scale was good, and the items of the scale showed convergent and discriminant validity. Conclusion The HPAN scale indicated that the reliability and validity were good. It is easy to imply factors of HPAN. This scale can be used to assess the HPAN.

        A Gel-like Comb Micro-Block Hydrophobic Associating Polymer: Synthesis, Solution Property and the Sol-Gel Transition at Semi-Dilute Region

        The gel-like comb micro block hydrophobic associating polymer (CBHAP) was synthesized by mixed micellar polymerization. The chemical structure of the copolymer was characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). The rheological properties of CBHAP in fresh water and saline water at semi-dilute region were investigated. The experimental results show that, because of the intermolecular forces, shear thickening phenomenon can be observed obviously in brine solution and the Newtonian viscosity plateau could be observed clearly before 40 s-1. When the concentration reaches 3,000 mg/L, the G’ and G’’ becomes stable, indicating that CBHAP experiences the sol-gel transition after 3,000 mg/L. However, the curl structure is formed by adding salt, resulting in a higher concentration of the sol-gel transition than that in fresh water. Once the curl structure is destroyed by shearing or stretching, the intermolecular forces will take into effect and complete the sol-gel transition at semi-dilute region.
