This study was intended to research the displacement characteristics of dampers for Korea high-speed rolling-stock for the purpose of developing the protective and maintenance technology of damper. For this, we measured the displacements of dampers in the actual running conditions of high speed railway vehicles. Displacement data were analyzed depending on the service sections, with which the valuable data necessary for maintenance in the future could be obtained.

The current study examined the reliability and applicability of the Chinese translated versions of the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale ?Revised (ECERS-R) and Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale ?Extension (ECERS-E) as formative tools for use by local practitioners to perform selfevaluations on the various aspects of the educational environments being provided to pre-school children in their own settings with the goal of helping to facilitate changes that may help to enhance the quality of educational experiences for young children. Five registered kindergartens were recruited and received trainings in the administration of the said tools by the PECERA-HK (ECERS) professional team. Three assessment trials were administered in three different phases. For each trial, teacher representatives from each kindergarten completed the assessment using the said tools together with the trainers. Discussions were also held with the trainers on their observations. Internal reliability for the tools was found to be quite robust. Qualitative findings also suggested that the ECERS-R and ECERS-E can serve to assist practitioners in identifying the respective strengths and weaknesses in the educational environment they were providing to children and in setting clear directions for making corresponding improvements.

A green chemical approach to control the dimensions of Ag nanoparticle-decorated graphene oxide (AgNP-GO) composites was proposed by in situ ultrasonication of a mixture of AgNO3 and GO solution with the assistance of vitamin C acting as an environmentally friendly reducing agent at room temperature. The AgNP-GO composites were characterized by X-ray diffraction, transmission electron microscopy, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, Raman spectra and ultraviolet-visible absorption spectra. The results demonstrated that Ag nanoparticles with an average diameter of ~15nm were uniformly dispersed on the surface of GO nanosheets by in situ ultrasonication of 1min with vitamin C. Increasing the ultrasonication times resulted in Ag nanoparticles with tunable dimensions ranging from 15 to 55nm being formed on the surface of GO nanosheets. The amount of silver nitrate and the ultrasonication time play a key role in the control of the dimension of Ag nanoparticles on GO, and a formation mechanism of the as-prepared AgNP-GO composites is proposed. This study provides a guide to controlling the dimensions of AgNP-GO composites, which may hold promise as advanced materials for various analytical applications such as catalysis, sensors and microchips.

Background: This study aimed to investigate clinical effectiveness of a structured eight-week mindfulness-based music therapy (MBMT) program on improving mood regulation in older women with blindness. This investigation compared a MBMT group with a mindfulness intervention (MI) group and a control group. Methods: Ninety-two older females with blindness from a residential setting in Hong Kong were recruited and randomly allocated to a MBMT (n = 31), MI (n = 30), or control (n = 31) group. Psychological measurements regarding mood regulation and general mood states (namely, Difficulties in Emotion Regulation Scale [DERS], Geriatric Depression Scale [GDS], and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales-21), were taken at pretest and posttest. Outcome assessors were blinded to group assignment. Results: Data was analyzed based on intention-to-treat basis. At posttest, DERS scores in the MBMT group (mean differences and 95% confidence interval: 12.1, 5.5 to 18.8) and the MI group (7.2, 0.5 to 13.8) were lower than that in the control group. GDS scores in the MBMT group (2.9, 1.7 to 4.0) and the MI group (1.7, 0.6 to 2.9) were lower than those in the control group. Compared with the MI group, the MBMT group improved emotional awareness sub-scores in DERS (2.1, 0.2 to 4.1) and appeared to lower depression in GDS scores (1.1, -0.0 to 2.3; p = 0.053). Conclusion: MBMT seems more beneficial than MI alone for improving emotional regulation in older women with blindness. The combination of mindfulness and music can generate a synergetic effect by enhancing both attention and appraisal components within the emotional-regulation process.
