        Synthesis and Luminescence Properties of Lanthanide Complexes of a Novel Polyaminopolycarboxylate Ligand

        A novel polyaminopolycarboxylate ligand with many coordination sites, N,N,$N^1,N^1,N^2,N^2$-[( 2,4,6-tri(aminomethyl)-pyridine]hexakis(acetic acid) (TPHA), was designed and synthesized and its lanthanide complexes $Na_6Tb_2$(TPHA)$Cl_6{\cdot}14H_2O$, $Na_6Eu_2$(TPHA)$Cl_6{\cdot}8H_2O$, $Na_6Gd_2$(TPHA)$Cl_6{\cdot}11H_2O$ and $Na_6Sm_2$(TPHA)$Cl_6{\cdot}9H_2O$ were successfully prepared. The ligand and the complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, mass, NMR and TG-DTA. The TG-DTA studies indicated that the complexes had a high thermal stability, whose initial decomposition temperature was over $270^{\circ}C$. The luminescence properties of the complexes in solid state were investigated and the results suggested that $Tb^{3+}$ and $Eu^{3+}$ ions could be sensitized efficiently by the ligand, especially the Tb(III) complex displayed a very strong luminescence intensity (> 10000) and only displayed characteristic metal-centered luminescence. Also, the correlative comparison between the structure of ligand and luminescence properties showed how the number of the coordination atoms of ligand can be a prominent factor in the effectiveness of ligand-to-metal energy transfer.

      • Evaluation of Computer-Assisted Quantitative Volumetric Analysis for Pre-Operative Resectability Assessment of Huge Hepatocellular Carcinoma

        Purpose: Hepatic resection is arguably the preferred treatment for huge hepatocellular carcinoma (H-HCC). Estimating the remnant liver volume is therefore essential. This study aimed to evaluate the feasibility of using computer-assisted volumetric analysis for this purpose. Methods: The study involved 40 patients with H-HCC. Laboratory examinations were conducted, and a contrast CT-scan revealed that 30 cases out of the participating 40 had single-lesion tumors. The remaining 10 had less than three satellite tumors. With the consensus of the team, two physicians conducted computer-assisted 3D segmentation of the liver, tumor, and vessels in each case. Volume was automatically computed from each segmented/labeled anatomical field. To estimate the resection volume, virtual lobectomy was applied to the main tumor. A margin greater than 1 cm was applied to the satellite tumors. Resectability was predicted by computing a ratio of functional liver resection (R) as (Vresected-Vtumor)/(Vtotal-Vtumor) x 100%, applying a threshold of 50% and 60% for cirrhotic and non-cirrhotic cases, respectively. This estimation was then compared with surgical findings. Results: Out of the 22 patients who had undergone hepatectomies, only one had an R that exceeded the threshold. Among the remaining 18 patients with non-resectable H-HCC, 12 had Rs that exceeded the specified ratio and the remaining 6 had Rs that were < 50%. Four of the patients who had Rs less than 50% underwent incomplete surgery due to operative findings of more extensive satellite tumors, vascular invasion, or metastasis. The other two cases did not undergo surgery because of the high risk involved in removing the tumor. Overall, the ratio of functional liver resection for estimating resectability correlated well with the other surgical findings. Conclusion: Efficient pre-operative resectability assessment of H-HCC using computer-assisted volumetric analysis is feasible.

        Traffic-load-induced dynamic stress accumulation in subgrade and subsoil using small scale model tests

        Under repeated loading, the residual stresses within the subgrade and subsoil can accelerate the deformation of the road structures. In this paper, a series of laboratory cyclic loading model tests and small-scale model tests were conducted to investigate the dynamic stress response within soils under different loading conditions. The experimental results showed that a dynamic stress accumulation effect occurred if the soil showed cumulative deformation: (1) the residual stress increased and accumulated with an increasing number of loading cycles, and (2) the residual stress was superimposed on the stress response of the subsequent loading cycles, inducing a greater peak stress response. There are two conditions that must be met for the dynamic stress accumulation effect to occur. A threshold state exists only if the external load exceeds the cyclic threshold stress. Then, the stress accumulation effect occurs. A higher loading frequency results in a higher rate of increase for the residual stress. In addition to the superposition of the increasing residual stress, soil densification might contribute to the increasing peak stress during cyclic loading. An increase in soil stiffness and a decrease in dissipative energy induce a greater stress transmission within the material.

        Study of the propagation of intense laser beam in collisional plasma channel using source-dependent expansion method

        In this paper, the propagation of an intense laser beam in a collisional plasma channel is studied analytically, and the investigation is focused on the self-focusing due to the Kerr nonlinearity, the relativistic nonlinearity, and the electron density perturbation. The propagation of laser, including the effects of diffraction, the plasma channel, the 3rd Kerr nonlinearity, the relativistic self-focusing, the electron density perturbation, and the defocusing due to electron collisions, is analyzed. The source-dependent expansion (SDE) method for analyzing the wave equation is introduced and employed in the paper.

        Impact of a Glyphosate-Tolerant Soybean Line on the Rhizobacteria, Revealed by Illumina MiSeq

        The global commercial cultivation of transgenic crops, including glyphosate-tolerant soybean, has increased widely in recent decades with potential impact on the environment. The bulk of previous studies showed different results on the effects of the release of transgenic plants on the soil microbial community, especially rhizosphere bacteria. In this study, comparative analyses of the bacterial communities in the rhizosphere soils and surrounding soils were performed between the glyphosate-tolerant soybean line NZL06-698 (or simply N698), containing a glyphosate-insensitive EPSPS gene, and its control cultivar Mengdou12 (or simply MD12), by a 16S ribosomal RNA gene (16S rDNA) amplicon sequencing-based Illumina MiSeq platform. No statistically significant difference was found in the overall alpha diversity of the rhizosphere bacterial communities, although the species richness and evenness of the bacteria increased in the rhizosphere of N698 compared with that of MD12. Some influence on phylogenetic diversity of the rhizosphere bacterial communities was found between N698 and MD12 by beta diversity analysis based on weighted UniFrac distance. Furthermore, the relative abundances of part rhizosphere bacterial phyla and genera, which included some nitrogen-fixing bacteria, were significantly different between N698 and MD12. Our present results indicate some impact of the glyphosate-tolerant soybean line N698 on the phylogenetic diversity of rhizosphere bacterial communities together with a significant difference in the relative abundances of part rhizosphere bacteria at different classification levels as compared with its control cultivar MD12, when a comparative analysis of surrounding soils between N698 and MD12 was used as a systematic contrast study.

        “화외인” 관련 법률의 신분적 속성 및 현대적 전환의 논의

        학계에서는 보통 ‘화외인’관 관련되는 법규를 중국 고대의 대외적인 사법의 관할제도로 인식하고 있다. 본 문은 이에 반론을 제기한다. 중국의 당조와 명조 및 청조 시기의 법률에서 ‘화외인’과 관련한 법률의 조항 속에 포함되어 있는 의미, 내용의 변화, 가치 등을 분석한 결과 ‘화외인’은 전통적인 법률의 신분이라는 계급의 등급을 표시하는 일종의 표현이 뿐이다. 청조의 말년에 와서야 법률의 수정을 거치면서 ‘화외인’에 대하여 현대적 의미의 대외적인 법률제도의 속성을 부여하게 된다. ‘化’자는 중국 고대의 중원에서 교화 또는 감화의 뜻으로 풀이된다. 역사적 배경을 결합해 보면 중국 고대의 전설에 황하유역에 염과 황이라는 부족이 끊임없는 발전과 번영을 거쳐 이룩한 것을 ‘華夏族’이라고 한다. 화하족은 주변의 부족들과의 경쟁 중에서 자신의 신분에 대한 자부심이 점차 강해졌고, 이것을 정치와 군사에 이용했다. 중국 역사에서 서주 이후의 역대 정권은 스스로 자신의 신분이 화하족 임을 강조하면서 문화적으로 정통적이고 상류에 속함을 암시했다. 그리고 정치적으로 臣服하지 못했던가 아니면 문화적으로 인정받지 못한 주변의 부족이나 정권을 ‘夷,狄,蠻,戎’이라고 나누어, 즉 ‘4夷’라고 통칭하여 문화적으로 저열한 등급에 귀속시켰다. 이것이 곧 ‘화외’라는 뜻이다. 이러한 방식으로 내부적으로는 정권의 응집력을 강화하고 외부로는 외이의 침입을 막았던 것이다. 또한 중앙정권이 강대할 경우, 문화의 우월성을 근거로 문화의 동화, 군사적 정벌 및 정치적 통치를 가했다. 예하면 중국의 大一統시대에 주변의 지역에 대하여는 지방정치의 배치를, 동남아 일대의 국가에 대해서는 조공 제도를 실행하였는데 그 문화적 실질은 ‘화내’와 ‘화외’의 구분에 있는 것이다. 학계에서 중국 고대의 전통적 律典에 ‘화외인’과 관련되는 법률의 규정을 두고 중국 고대의 사법제도라고 결론을 하고 있다. 사실 ‘화외’와 ‘화내’는 현대사회의 국제적 정치·법률의 의미에서 말하는 ‘내국’과 ‘외국’의 구별은 전혀 다른 것이다. 전자는 인간의 단체 사이에 존재하는 문화가치의 저열을 논하고 있는 것이고, 후자는 국가의 주권에 관여되는 국경과 관련된 의식의 문제로써, 서구의 절대주의 국가 관념의 표현이다. 전자는 가치의 귀속이 황권주의라면 후자는 주권평등의 민족주의라고 할 수 있다. The Chinese a ancient Law`s Barbarian clause has always been regarded as the foreign-related judical principle of ancient law. That is inaccurate. Generally speaking, the status is the main feature contained in it. Such clause became an actual foreign-related judical principle since the political reforms in later Qing Dynasty. Barbarian became self conceit, and used it for police and military. Truly ‘whaui’ and ‘whanae’ is different from domestic and foreign in the meaning of international law. The former is to discuss the culture value to exist man`s organization. The latter is the frontier problem related to the nation`s rights.

        Smart health evaluation of slewing bearing based on multiple-characteristic parameters

        A rotational connection between two substructures generally consists of a slewing bearing which is very often used for heavy loads atlow speeds. Slewing bearing condition monitoring is a good method to identify the inception and propagation of structural defects at anearly stage for timely remedy, and ultimately, enable condition-based “intelligent” maintenance instead of schedule-based. The traditionalhealth evaluation accuracy is not high based on single vibrating signal. We present a new strategy for health evaluation of slewing bearingbased on multiple characteristic parameters and the artificial neural networks, and we applied the genetic algorithm to model multiparametershealth evaluation. Seventy days fatigue life test was carried out using a special slewing bearing test table and 70 sets data waschosen to input the networks evaluation model for training and evaluation. Test results show that the ANN (Artificial neural network)with GA (Genetic algorithm) optimization converges more easily, takes fewer iterations and shorter training time, and has higher precisionand good stability. And the output of multi-parameters health evaluation network model shows a better agreement with the target. The evaluation results were in accordance with the experiment. Therefore, this methodology can be used to evaluate the health state ofslewing bearing.

        Phosphoric Acid Modified Nb<sub>2</sub>O<sub>5</sub>: A Selective and Reusable Catalyst for Dehydration of Sorbitol to Isosorbide

        Niobium oxide ($Nb_2O_5$) and phosphated $Nb_2O_5$ were synthesized and used as catalysts for sorbitol dehydration to isosorbide. The characterization results of $N_2$ adsorption, XRD and $NH_3$-TPD revealed that the phosphoric acid modification could well prevent the crystallization of $Nb_2O_5$. And the amorphous phosphated $Nb_2O_5$ catalysts kept the relatively large surface area and stable acidity at high calcination temperature. The catalytic results showed that the selectivity to isosorbide could be dramatically enhanced over phosphated $Nb_2O_5$. The excellent catalytic performance with 100.0% sorbitol conversion and 62.5% isosorbide selectivity were obtained over the 0.8P/NBO-400 catalyst. Comparing with $Nb_2O_5$ catalysts, phosphated $Nb_2O_5$ catalysts regenerated through a simple calcination process showed no significant activity loss after recycling three runs.
