Plasma-derived products are produced from plasma via fractionation and chromatography techniques, but can also be produced by other methods. In the performance of nucleic acid amplification tests (NAT) with plasma-derived products, it is necessary to include an internal control for the monitoring of all procedures. In order to avoid false negative results, we confirmed the usefulness of the bovine viral diarrhoea virus (BVDV) for use as an internal control in the detection of hepatitis C virus (HCV) RNA in plasma-derived products. These products, which were spiked with BVDV, were extracted and then NAT was performed. Specificity and sensitivity were determined via the adjustment of primer concentrations and annealing temperatures. BVDV detection allows for validation in the extraction, reverse transcription, and amplification techniques used for HCV detection in plasma-derived products.

The effects of nanotexturing and post-etching on the reflection and quantum efficiency properties of diamond wire sawn (DWS) multicrystalline silicon (mc-Si) solar cell have been investigated. The chemical solutions, which are acidic etching solution (HF-HNO₃), metal assisted chemical etching (MAC etch) solutions (AgNO₃-HF-DI, HF-H₂O₂-DI) and post-etching solution (diluted KOH at 80℃), were used for micro- and nano-texturing at the surface of diamond wire sawn (DWS) mc-Si wafer. Experiments were performed with various post-etching time conditions in order to determine the optimized etching condition for solar cell. The reflectance of mc-Si wafer texturing with acidic etching solution showed a very high reflectance value of about 30% (w/o anti-reflection coating), which indicates the insufficient light absorption for solar cell. The formation of nano-texture on the surface of mc-Si contributed to the enhancement of light absorption. Also, post-etching time condition of 240 s was found adequate to the nano-texturing of mc-Si due to its high external quantum efficiency of about 30% at short wavelengths and high short circuit current density (Jsc) of 35.4 A/cm².

This study was carried out to investigate amino acid contents of golden mushroom and pink mushroom. The amino acid analysis was followed by AccQ-Tag method and HPLC on gradient conditions. Seventeen amino acids were analyzed and sixteen amino acids were found in golden mushroom ; fifteen amino acids in pink mushroom respectively. Among total amino acid in golden mushroom, cystein content was the highest and glycine, glutamic acid, proline were followed. Among total amino acid in pink mushroom, cystein was the highest and glycine, lysine, methionine were followed. As shown in Fig.1, 2, concerning amino acids, cystein was dominant. and alanine was detectied in golden mushroom but pink mushroom.

위 종양에서 nm23 유전자 단백 및 P-glycoprotein 발현에 관한 면역조직화학적 연구

Cancer cell metastasis and anti-cancer drug resistance of malignant tumors are basic problems in cancer eradication. The nm23 gene has been proposed to be a metastatic supressor gene and its down-regulation associated with metastasis or disease progression in some of the tumors. The P-glycoprotein, known as MDR gene product, is over-expressed in a various human cancers and related with multi-drug resistance. We investigated the expression pattern of nm23 gene product and P-glycoprotein in 47 cases of gastric adenocarcinoma according to tumor sites, differentiation, serosal invasion and lymph node metastasis by using immunohistochemical method. The nm23 gene product and P-glycoprotein were generally expressed in cytoplasm with granular pattern in tumor cells and in some of neighboring normal gastric mucosa. The overall expression rates of nm23 protein and P-glycoprotein, were 57% and 67%, respectively. The nm23 expression rates were inversely correlated with tumor cells differentiation. lymph node metastasis status and serosal invasion(P<0.05). The P-glycoprotein expression rates were not stastically correlated with other pathologic parameters such as tumor location, serosal extension, and lymph node metastasis except tumor cells differentiation. The results suggest that the down-regulation of nm23 protein might have a role of metastasis and invasion in gastric adenocarcinoma, meanwhile the overexpression of P-glycoprotein plays a role of intrinsic drug resistence of gastric adenocarcinoma resulting poor prognosis. A retrospective and prospective study The results suggest that the down-regulation of nm23 protein might have a role of metastasis and expression.

Nonconvulsive status epilepticus (NCSE) is an unusual complication in patients treated with cefepime. An 82-year-old woman on maintenance hemodialysis was given cefepime for pneumonia. Her level of consciousness decreased since the administration of cefepime, and she was diagnosed with NCSE based on electroencephalography (EEG) findings. After discontinuation of cefepime, improvement was seen both in the level of consciousness and EEG findings. Clinicians should be aware of cefepime-induced NCSE, particularly in patients with renal failure.

Doxorubicin has a synergistic cytotoxicity with cucurbitacin B in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells

<P>In this study, the combined effect of doxorubicin with cucurbitacin B on survival of anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells was evaluated. For experiments, 8505C and CAL62 human anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells were used. Cell viability, the percentage of viable cells, and cytotoxic activity were measured using 3-(4,5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl)-2,5diphenyltetrazolium bromide assay, multiplexed cytotoxicity assay, and cytotoxicity assay, respectively. Reactive oxygen species production was measured. In experiments, doxorubicin and cucurbitacin B reduced cell viability in a dose-and time-dependent manner. Cotreatment of doxorubicin and cucurbitacin B, compared with treatment of doxorubicin alone, decreased the percentage of viable cells and increased cytotoxic activity. All of the combination index values were lower than 1.0, suggesting the synergism between doxorubicin and cucurbitacin B in induction of cytotoxicity. In cells treated with both doxorubicin and cucurbitacin B, compared with doxorubicin alone, the protein levels of cleaved poly(adenosine diphosphate-ribose) polymerase and cyclooxygenase 2 and reactive oxygen species production were enhanced. In contrast, the protein levels of B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoma 2 and survivin and B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoma 2/B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoma 2-associated x protein ratio were diminished. The protein levels of Janus kinase 2 and signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 were reduced, while phospho-extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 protein levels were elevated without change in total extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 protein levels. These results suggest that doxorubicin synergizes with cucurbitacin B in induction of cytotoxicity in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells. Moreover, synergistic cytotoxicity of doxorubicin with cucurbitacin B is mediated by B-cell chronic lymphocytic leukemia/lymphoma 2 family proteins, survivin, and reactive oxygen species and modulated by Janus kinase 2/signal transducer and activator of transcription 3 and extracellular signal-regulated kinase 1/2 in anaplastic thyroid carcinoma cells.</P>
