Background and Objectives : Many students major in applied music singing have various difficulties in phonation when they sing or perform. But the studies about this cause are lack. The purpose of this study is whether singing voice therapy based on vocal music is effective or not to applied music singing students that have difficulties in phonation. Materials and Methods : Singing voice therapy program had been done to 8 students major in applied music singing during 7 weeks. We did laryngeal stroboscope, perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic examination before and after singing voice therapy to this students. And we studied post examination results have differences or improvements compared to pre examination results. Results : Four male students don't have effective improvement after singing voice therapy but they shows slight improvement in aerodynamic examination values compared to pre examination values. Four female students shows improvement in aerodynamic examination values and pitch range increasing. Above all, one student's vocal nodules disappeared after singing voice therapy. Conclusion : Singing voice therapy based on music singing is very effective to the students major in applied music singing. Above all, their curriculum in applied music singing should include phonation training based on music singing before training perform and technic practices.

Background: Endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS) is an operator-dependent procedure and requires more technical and cognitive skills than a routine endoscopic procedure. The learning curve for the staging of gastric cancer, however, has not been evaluated. We aimed to evaluate the threshold number of EUS examinations for gastric cancer T staging. Methods: We retrospectively reviewed the clinical records of patients who underwent EUS for gastric cancer, performed by trainees at Severance Hospital, Seoul, Korea, between March 2011 and February 2012. Cumulative sum analysis was applied to assess the learning curve for determining the T stage using EUS in trainees. Results: A total of 553 initial EUS examinations for naive gastric cancers, performed by 4 trainees, were enrolled in the study. The fi nal T stage was determined by experts using EUS in 332 gastric cancer cases, whereas the T stage of the other 221 lesions was determined by trainees using EUS. Accuracies of EUS examinations performed by trainees and experts were 72.6% and 84.3%, respectively. The number of EUS examinations required to reach a fi rst plateau in each trainee was 20, 41, 60, and 65. Conclusions: The CUSUM scores of all of four trainees in the study reached a plateau within the 65th examination.
Metabolism of Isoflavone Derivatives During Manufacturing of Traditional Meju and Doenjang

Meju, a major ingredient of doenjang which is a popular Korean traditional fermented soyfood, was manufactured by fermenting steamed soybeans in natural environment in which steamed soy was exposed to airborne microorganism, in particular, fungi. Total isoflavone content was reduced from 1,849 mg/kg of cooked soy to 816 mg/kg of meju at the 90<sup>th</sup> day of fermentation. Total glycosides and aglycones of isoflavones in meju were 1,827 and 22 mg/kg at 0 day and changed into 487 and 329 mg/kg at the 90<sup>th</sup> day of fermentation, respectively. Meanwhile, the ratio of glycosides to aglycones of isoflavones was not changed during aging of doenjang but remained relatively constant with 592 and 644 mg/kg aglycones at the 0 and 160<sup>th</sup> day, respectively. When cooked soy was fermented with Aspergillus oryzae and Aspergillus flavus, isoflavone profiles were significantly different from each other while A. oryzae caused more extensive metabolism of isoflavones than A. flavus.

Background : We have previously reported that Oligonol, a low-molecular polyphenol derived from lychee fruit, has protective effect on the liver and kidney of diabetic animal model. In this study, we examined whether Oligonol has any beneficial effects on pancreas of diabetic rats. Methods and Results : Oligonol was orally administered at a dose of 10 and 20 mg/kg body weight for 10 days to STZ-induced diabetic rats, and the effects were compared with those of vehicle-treated diabetic control and non-diabetic control rats. The administration of Oligonol reduced hyperglycemia in diabetic rats through an improvement of serum and pancreatic insulin levels. The increased reactive oxygen species levels in pancreas of diabetic control rats was attenuated by the Oligonol administration through inhibiting the expression of NADPH oxidase-related proteins. The enhanced expression of pro-apoptotic proteins in pancreas of diabetic control rats was significantly reduced by Oligonol administration through down-regulation of phosphor-c-Jun N-terminal kinases protein in pancreas. Furthermore, the expressions of cell proliferation-related protein were also augmented in Oligonol treated-diabetic rats. However, Oligonol treatment led to improved histological changes in the pancreas. Conclusion : These pancreatoprotective effects of Oligonol were achieved through attenuation of oxidative stress and its sensitive protein expression associated with apoptosis and cell proliferation in diabetic rats.

The purpose of this study was to investigate whether or not the antler-shaped fruiting body of Ganoderma lucidum (GL) has an anti-inflammatory effect on lipopolysaccharide (LPS)/interferon-γ (IFN-γ)-activated RAW 264.7 macrophage-like cells. To evaluate the anti-inflammatory effects of GL, we examined the inflammatory mediators such as the production of nitric oxide (NO) and the expression of mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), activator protein 1 (AP-1), inducible NO synthase (iNOS), cyclooxygenase-2 (COX-2), interleukin-1β (IL-1β), and interleukin-6 (IL-6). LPS/IFN-γ-induced cellular NO production was significantly decreased in GL-treated RAW 264.7 cells. Moreover, Western blotting analysis results demonstrated that reduced protein expression of MAPK families (such as extracellular signal-regulated kinase, c-Jun amino-terminal kinase, and p38 MAPK) and AP-1-targeting inflammatory enzymes (iNOS, COX-2, IL-1β, and IL-6). These results indicated that GL modulates the MAPK/AP-1 signal pathway in inflammatory process. In conclusion, the present study provides important evidence that GL can potentially be used to reduce LPS/IFN-γ-induced inflammatory response by inhibiting the MAPK/AP-1 signaling pathways.

<P>Bombyxamycins A and B (<B>1</B> and <B>2</B>) were discovered from a silkworm gut <I>Streptomyces</I> bacterium. Spectroscopic analysis and multiple-step chemical derivatization identified them as 26-membered cyclic lactams with polyene features. Bombyxamycin A showed significant antibacterial and antiproliferative effects. The bombyxamycin biosynthetic gene cluster was identified by genetic analysis. Gene deletion experiments confirmed that the cytochrome P450 BomK is responsible for the generation of <B>2</B>, which unprecedentedly bears tetrahydrofuran in its macrocyclic ring.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Background: A Poly-L-lactic acid (PLLA) is a soft tissue filler known to stimulate collagen production. Objectives: The purpose of this study is to analyze objective volumetric effect of PLLA in different setting of injection schedule on the cheek. Methods: A split-face, evaluator-blind randomized study in 24 volunteers was conducted. One side was injected 3 times with dose of 4cc per visit at week 0, 4, and 8, and the other side was injected 2 times with dose of 6cc per visit at week 4 and 8, respectively. Volunteers were evaluated with facial volume loss scale (FVLS) from 1 to 5(most severe) and objective volumetric values using Vectra-CR 3D camera system. Results: Improvement of FVLS was statistically significant (p<0.05) and maintained until 12 months in both injection side. Vectra showed volumetric difference (cc) between before and after injection. In 3 times injection side, it was increased from 2.12cc (after 1 month) to 3.17cc (after 12 months). In 2 times injection side, it was increased from 2.26cc (after 1 month) to 3.19cc (after 12 months). Gradual volumetric improvement over 12 months was statistically significant in both sides (P<0.05, generalized linear model). There was not statistically significant difference between three and two times injection side in both FVLS and Vectra. There was no severe adverse event. Conclusion: PLLA filler has continuous volumetric effect and there was not a significant difference by injection times at the same total injection volume.

Recently biodiesel has drawn much attraction as renewable enegy due to its environmental benefits and the fact that it is made from renewable resources. However, the production cost of biodiesel is one of the main hurdle to commercialize it. One of the way to reduce the biodiesel production cost is to use the waste cooking oil as feedstock. In the conventional transesterification process of waste cooking oils for biodiesel production, the presence of free fatty acids and water causes severe problems such as formation of soap and decreasing of catalyst yield. Much effort has been devoted to solve the above problems and one of the promising way is the supercritical methanol treatment which is performed at the methanol supercritical environment (>239.45oC, >8.10 Mpa)one of the serious problems of the application of SCM process for the biodiesel production is the tough operation condition(high pressure, high temperature. In this study, we have studied about the supercritical methanol treatment for the biodiesel production with the soybean waste cooking oil as a feedstock in the present of various heterogeneous solid catalysts such as mesoporous silica and acid-doped mesorpous silica. Biodiesel conversion was increased at more mild opreation condition to the previous studies by using the catalysts. The conversion was more enhanced by modifying the catalysts.
