Induced Pluripotent Stem Cells as a Novel Tool in Psychiatric Research

Reprogramming of somatic cells into induced pluripotent stem cells (iPSCs) provides a valuable opportunity to study neurodevelopmental and neurodegenerative psychiatric diseases by offering an unlimited source for patient-specific neuronal and glial cells. The present review focuses on the recent advancements in modeling psychiatric disorders such as Phelan-McDermid syndrome, Timothy syndrome, Rett syndrome, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and dementia. The treatment effects identified in studies on iPSCs using known therapeutic compounds are also summarized in this review. Here we discuss validation of cellular models and explore iPSCs as a novel drug screening tool. Although there are several limitations associated with the current methods used to study mental disorders, using iPSCs as a model system provides the advantage of rewinding and reviewing the development and degeneration of human neural cells.
Visual Preference Assessment on Ultra-High-Definition Images

<P>With the recent evolution of ultra-high-definition (UHD) display technology, viewers can enjoy high-resolution content more realistically over TVs, virtual reality, portable, and wearable devices. To increase the visual attraction viewers perceive, post-processing of video content has been more powerfully conducted in such commercial devices. In this paper, we define a new terminology visual preference to quantify viewer perceptual preferences in a certain viewing environment with UHD images processed using sharpness and contrast enhancements. Viewers' visual preference for UHD images depends on the spatial resolution afforded by the UHD display, which in turn depends on the viewing geometry of the display resolution, display size, and viewing distance. In addition, viewers can perceive different degrees of quality and sharpness according to the content enhancement type and level, which leads to variation in the statistical dynamics of spatial image information. In this paper, we explore a novel methodology called the visual preference assessment model (VPAM) that accounts for content enhancement features, diverse viewing geometry, and statistical dynamics variation. The VPAM is a no-reference assessment method designed using an elaborate subjective preference assessment with support vector regression as the machine learning algorithm. The VPAM far outperforms previous methods in terms of correlation, 0.45-0.56, with the visual preference assessment.</P>
스마트 모바일 기반 E1 어플리케이션 UX/UI 개발 사례

스마트 시대의 도래로 그동안 생활의 문제점을 직접적인 체험을 통해 해결 하였다면 지금은 스마트 모바일을 통한 어플리케이션을 활용하여 해결 하고자는 현상이 나타나고 있다. 본 연구는 이러한 시대적 현황을 반영하여 현 시점의 스마트 모바일 트랜드를 인지하고 그 발전 방향과 시사점, 소비자의 변화양상 등을 조사 분석하여 이에 근거해서 나온 다양한 문제를 스마트 모바일 기반 E1 어플리케이션 UX/UI 개발을 통해 해결하는 방법을 제시하였다. 이를 위해 공유나 쌍방향 커뮤니케이션, 사용성 테스트를 거쳐 나온 디자인가이드, UX/UI환경 등을 총체적으로 고찰하였다. 직관적인 디자인과 사용자들이 흥미를 잃지 않고 사용되는 항목들, 기본적인 주유 어플리케이션의 항목인 위치기반서비스, 거래내역과 포인트, 쿠폰 등의 구체적인 디자인 안을 제시하였다. 또한 보다 사용성이 높고 운전자들이 주행 중에도 손쉽게 사용 할 수 있는 어플리케이션으로 제고하고자 한다. 이러한 연구는 사용자 편이성을 도모하고 기업 아이덴티티를 명확히 하는 서비스로 제공되어 사용자나 공급자면에서 부가가치를 형성해 줄 것으로 기대한다. The era requiring numerous applications fully arrived. In the past, the problems that people faced in life were solved by their direct experiences, but now such problems are handled mostly by smartphones. Therefore, this researcher recognized the current smart mobile trend in consideration of the circumstance, and, in this study, investigated and analyzed the development direction and suggestions, and the changes of consumers. Based on the analysis, this researcher comprehensively tried to recognize and solve the issues arising from the analysis by looking into sharing and two-way communication, the design guide drawn by usability test various, and UX/UI environment. The main goal of solving the issues was to implement the design plans, including intuitive designs, the categories constantly attracting users" interest, used for users" attraction, GPS service as the basic category of gas-station applications, details about transactions, points and coupons. On the basis of the study, this researcher tried to make the applications highly usable and easily operable during the driving time. As part of the research, if competitiveness is stronger and corporate identity is more clarified, the future service design is expected to give more convenience to our life.
향상된 이동성을 위한 가변 휠-레그 모바일 로봇의 설계

본 연구에서는 평지뿐만 아니라 다양한 험지 및 장애물 환경에서 효율적인 주행이 가능한 새로운 가변형 휠-레그(wheel-leg) 모바일 로봇을 설계 및 제작하였다. 가변 휠-레그는 평지에선 일반 원형 바퀴처럼 구동되며, 비정형 지형에서는 다리 모양의 형태로 변형되어 장애물 및 주어진 환경을 극복하여 우수한 환경 적응성과 이동성을 제공한다. 이를 위하여 본 연구에서는 휠-레그의 설계 파라미터를 분석하였다. 그리고 DC 모터와 기어 메커니즘을 활용하여 wheel-leg의 wheel 모드와 leg 모드 변형을 구현하였다. 최종적으로 실험을 통하여 제안한 휠-레그 로봇의 향상된 장애물 극복 능력을 확인하였다. In this study, we designed and fabricated a transformable wheel-leg robot that provides efficient mobility and obstacle overcoming under various structured and unstructured environments. The transformable wheel-leg is configured as a circular wheel on a flat surface and into the leg mode on rugged terrain for advanced mobility and terrain adaptability. Based on this goal, we analyzed the design parameters of the wheel-leg. A DC motor and gear mechanism were applied to realize transformation of the wheel and leg modes in the robot. Finally, experiments were performed to verify the improved obstacle overcoming capability.

As clear aligners became popular, the use of polymers in clinical orthodontics is increasing. From traditional thermoforming sheets like PETG and TPU for Invisalign to the latest materials for 3D printing, these materials are complicated for clinicians to learn since textbooks do not yet cover the basics of polymer engineering. In this article, we will introduce the basic concepts of polymers to help clinicians understand the differences between different polymers and make appropriate choices for their clinical practice.
