We analyzed the chirp sound and behavior of Teleogryllus emma with observation system, which was consisted of computer, ccd-camera and microphone. Computational methods of wavelet transformation and Self-Organizing Maps (SOM) were utilized to characterized the chirp sound of insect species for automatic counting in this study. Wavelets were initially applied to feature extraction of the chirp sound. Wavelet coefficients were accordingly calculated based on the basis function (e.g., Morlet). The obtained coefficients were subsequently provided to count number of chirps in each song. Sound structure of insect specimens consisted with long chirp and short chirp and the patterns of song were grouped by frequency of long chirp and short chirp. The song patterns of insect specimens were divided by Self-Organizing Map (SOM) that was used number of chirp as input data. Application of computational methods to automatic detection of chirp sound was further discussed for obtaining objective assessment in behavior science.

This study was designed to investigate the effect of a year aerobic exercise training on body composition, isokinetic knee and trunk muscular strength of elders. The subjects for this study were eighty healthy elderly people who were members of seniors tower at Song-Do Hospital and didn`t have any history of cardiorepiratory disease. Subjects have been trained three times a week for a year. The exercise program was made up of a 15-minute warm-up, cool-down. Stretching was performed every eight minutes for the prevention of injuries which could occur during the main exercise and quick recovery of the used muscle. Aerobic training was performed for each 15-20minutes using the treadmill and cycle ergometer at the intensity of 50-70% HRmax. For the data, all the measurements were represented by mean and standard deviation using SAS package(version 6.12). Statistical techniques for data analysis were paired t-test to determine the difference between pre and post exercise program. The 5% level of significance was used as the critical level for acceptance of hypotheses for the study. The following results were obtained from this study. 1. There is a statistically significant difference in the VO_2max, fat mass, lean mass and %body fat both old men and women after a year training. 2. There is not a statistically significant difference in the weight, WHR and thigh circumference both old men and women after a year training. 3. There is a statistically significant difference in the right knee flexor/extensor peak torque, peak torque % body weight, total work and total work % body weight both old men and women after a year training. 4. There is a statistically significant difference in the left knee flexor/extensor peak torque, peak torque % body weight, total work and total work % body weight both old men and women after a year training.

While determination of the solid propellant burning rates by ultrasound, it has been reported that the frequent data scatters were caused by two major factors; 1) variation in the acoustical properties, and 2) non-linear burning of a solid propellant sample under investigation. This work is carried out for the purpose of investigating the effect of non-linear burning of solid propellant samples. Specifically, we propose an ultrasonic measurement model that can predict the reflections from solid propellant surfaces with non-linear burning by the combination of two ingredients; 1) a pulse-echo ultrasonic measurement model for a planar, circular reflector imbedded in the second medium in an immersion set-up, and 2) an efficient model of non-linear burning surfaces with a number of small, planar circles. Then, we demonstrate the capability of the proposed measurement model by simulation of the surface echo signals from four different burning surfaces that have been generated by the combination of two factors; the base shape (flat or paraboloidal) and the surface roughness (perfectly smooth or randomly rough). From the simulation presented here, we can confirm the fact that the non-linear burning of the propellant can cause the waveform change of the burning surface echo and the corresponding spectrum variation.

Objectives: This study investigated quality among three herb medicine extract granules(DSGOST) which were made from different companies to check quality control of herb medicine extract granules. Methods: we selected three DSGOST extract granules which were made from different companies. And we experimented extract granules by method from K.P(Korean Pharmacopoeia), K.H.P(Korean Herbal Pharmacopoeia) of KFDA. Results: In qualitative analysis of DSGOST, we indentified Akebiae Caulis (木通), Asari Herba Cum Radix (細辛), Evodiae Fructus (吳茱萸) in three different DSGOST extract granules. In quantitative analysis of DSGOST, Medication A,B,C contained similar content of Paeoniflorin & Glycyrrhizic acid. However Medication B contains especially lowest value of Cinnamic acid & total Decursin. Conclusions: Herb medicine extract granules have different contents of ingredients although those were made by same prescription. And these differences may influence medicinal effect to patients. So we need to make system of quality control with various research of quantitative & qualitative analysis about herb medicine extract granules.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>The compaction behavior of structure-modified Fe nanopowders having agglomerates of spherical shape and a bimodal particle size distribution was investigated in terms of the particle packing and microstructure during compaction process. To fabricate the structure-modified Fe nanopowders, the spray-dried Fe2O3 nanopowder was hydrogen reduced at 400, 450 and 550 °C to control the degree of particle growth in agglomerates. The compaction behavior of fabricated Fe nanopowders was investigated by two different ways. In die compaction experiments, it was found that the bimodal nanopowder reduced at 550 °C showed higher green density compared to nanopowders reduced at 400 and 450 °C over the entire range of compacting pressure. Furthermore, the compact of the bimodal nanopowder achieved a remarkable green density over 80% of theoretical density (TD) at 1000 MPa pressure without any defects due to the effective packing by filling the interstices between the large nanoparticles with small nanoparticles. The obtained density-pressure data was fitted by the Panelli and Ambrozio Filho equation to compare the densification capacity between the fabricated Fe nanopowders. To investigate the agglomerate deformation occurrence at the low pressure range, a continuous compaction experiment was conducted; the observations were explained in terms of microstructural development on the basis of the apparent yield pressure obtained from continuous densification curves.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Compaction behavior of bimodal Fe nanopowder agglomerate was investigated. </LI> <LI> Agglomerate strength of bimodal nanopowder was low to be broken during tapping. </LI> <LI> Bimodal nanopowder showed higher green density than monomodal nanopowder. </LI> <LI> The effective packing of bimodal nanoparticles improved compactability. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
Characteristics of the NiO/Hexaaluminate for Chemical Looping Combustion
Song, Kwang Sub,Seo, Yong Seog,Yoon, Hyung Kee,Cho, Sung June 한국화학공학회 2003 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.20 No.3
Chemical looping combustion technology has drawn much attention due to advantages such as no NO_x formation and simple CO_2 separation. The thermally stable oxygen carrier in redox cycle at 1,000-1,400 K is necessary for the chemical lopping combustion. The thermally stable hexaaluminate can be a good candidate for the support material of the oxygen carrier. In this work, NiO/hexaaluminate has been developed in order to apply for chemical looping combustion. From the X-ray diffraction patterns, it was found that most of Ni existed in the form of NiO and NiAl_2O_4 in the obtained sample. The NiO supported on NiAl_2O_4 showed good characteristics in the reduction and oxidation reaction. The present work suggested that NiO/hexaaluminate is a promising material as oxygen carrier for the chemical looping combustion.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Potassium arylethynyltrifluoroborates, the intermediates generated by the Sonogashira reaction of potassium ethynyltrifluoroborate with various aryl halides, were directly coupled with azides in the presence of a stoichiometric amount of CuI under aqueous conditions, and the desired 1,4‐disubstituted 1,2,3‐triazoles were isolated in good yields. Both electron‐donating and electron‐withdrawing substituents on the potassium arylethynyltrifluoroborates gave moderate to excellent yields of the isolated products.</P>
