Background and Objectives : Many students major in applied music singing have various difficulties in phonation when they sing or perform. But the studies about this cause are lack. The purpose of this study is whether singing voice therapy based on vocal music is effective or not to applied music singing students that have difficulties in phonation. Materials and Methods : Singing voice therapy program had been done to 8 students major in applied music singing during 7 weeks. We did laryngeal stroboscope, perceptual, acoustic and aerodynamic examination before and after singing voice therapy to this students. And we studied post examination results have differences or improvements compared to pre examination results. Results : Four male students don't have effective improvement after singing voice therapy but they shows slight improvement in aerodynamic examination values compared to pre examination values. Four female students shows improvement in aerodynamic examination values and pitch range increasing. Above all, one student's vocal nodules disappeared after singing voice therapy. Conclusion : Singing voice therapy based on music singing is very effective to the students major in applied music singing. Above all, their curriculum in applied music singing should include phonation training based on music singing before training perform and technic practices.
Antioxidants Stimulated by UV-B Radiation in Rice Seedling
Sung, Jwa-Kyung,Lee, Seung-Hwan,Lee, Su-Yeon,Shim, Myung-Bo,Kim, Tae-Wan,Song, Beom-Heon The Korean Society of Crop Science 2004 Korean journal of crop science Vol.49 No.2
In order to investigate low molecular antioxidants synthesized by enhanced UV-B radiation, we used the seedlings of two rice varieties. Woonjangbyeo, UV-tolerant, and Hwajoongbyeo, UV-susceptible, were subjected under supplemental UV-B irradiation. When rice seedlings were irradiated with UV light for short period, biosynthesis of total phenolic compound, ascorbate and glutathione were momently reduced. With an increase of UV-B radiation, however, those were slightly synthesized. The content of lipid peroxides in UV-challenged rice leaves was considerably increased after 12 hrs of UV-B treatment. Lipoxygenase activity under supplemental UV-B radiation was differently responded on rice varieties.

Acharan sulfate (AS) is a glycosaminoglycan (GAG) prepared from the giant African snail, Achatina fulica. In this study, some biological activities of AS were evaluated on the basis of structural similarities to heparin/heparan sulfate and the biological functions of GAGs. We demonstrated that it exhibited strong immunostimulating activities as measured by carbon clearance test in mice and in vivo phagocytosis. It also exhibited a significant hypoglycemic activity in epinephrine (EP)-induced hyperglycemia as well as antifatigue effects by weight-loaded forced swimming test. And it showed hypolipidemic activities in cholesterol-rich mixture induced hyperlipidemia in rats. The above results indicate that AS has diverse biological activities and suggest therapeutically important target molecules.
Deep UV Photoresists;Dissolution Inhibitor
Sang-Yeon Shim,James V. Crivello 한국유화학회 2000 한국응용과학기술학회지 Vol.17 No.3
A new class of deep UV Photoresist based on the principles of chemical amplification was developed. This photoresist consists of three basic elements: a copolymer, blocked tetrabromobisphenol-A as a dissolution inhibitor and a photosensitive onium salt as a photoacid generator. On irradiation followed by a post exposure bake, tert-butoxycarbonyloxy phenyl group is converted to phenol group. Thus the initially base insoluble resin is converted under UV irradiation to a base soluble resin which may be preferentially removed by dissolution. This new photoresist display high sensitivity, 10 mJ/cm2.
The improvement of quality of life in patients treated with bariatric surgery in Korea
Sung-Hee Oh,Hyun Jin Song,Jin-Won Kwon,Do-Joong Park,Yeon-Ji Lee,Hyejin Chun,Sunyoung Kim,Kyung-Won Shim 대한외과학회 2013 Annals of Surgical Treatment and Research(ASRT) Vol.84 No.3
Purpose: Bariatric surgery is considered an efficient treatment for severe obesity, but postoperative complications and psychosocial problems may impact quality of life (QoL). Although QoL is an important aspect of bariatric surgery, few studies have evaluated the changes in QoL. We examined whether severely obese patients who had undergone bariatric surgery had better QoL compared with severely obese adults who had not undergone bariatric surgery in Korea. Methods: Data were obtained from 78 participants in two groups; bariatric surgery group (n = 53) and nonsurgery group (n = 25). EuroQoL-5D (EQ-5D), the impact of weight on quality of life-lite (IWQoL-lite) and the obesity-related psychosocial problem scale (OP-scale) were used to assess the improvement of QoL. Results: A total of 78 patients completed the QoL forms as part of their surgical consultation. In the EQ-5D, the changes of EQ-5D 3 level and EQ-5D visual analogue scale in the surgery group was 0.174 and 24.6 versus 0.017 and 17.8 in the nonsurgery group (P = 0.197 and P = 0.179). The changes of IWQoL-lite and OP-scale were significantly improved after bariatric surgery. In the IWQoL-lite, the mean changes in the surgery group was 33.4 versus 14.3 points in the nonsurgery group (P = 0.000). In the OP-scale, the mean changes in the surgery group patients scored 39.3 versus 9.0 points in the nonsurgery group (P = 0.000). Conclusion: We demonstrated significant improvement of QoL observed after bariatric surgery compared to nonsurgical procedure. The results of this comparative study favor bariatric surgery for the treatment of severe obesity.

PURPOSE. This study aimed to discover a way to increase the bond strength between bis-acryl resins, using a comparison of the shear bond strengths attained from bis-acryl resins treated with light curing, pressure, oxygen inhibition, and heat. MATERIALS AND METHODS. Self-cured bis-acryl resin was used as both a base material and as a repair material. Seventy specimens were distributed into seven groups according to treatment methods: pressure - stored in a pressure cooker at 0.2 Mpa; oxygen inhibition- applied an oxygen inhibitor around the repaired material,; heat treatment - performed heat treatment in a dry oven at $60^{\circ}C$, $100^{\circ}C$, or $140^{\circ}C$. The shear bond strength was measured with a universal testing machine, and the shear bond strength (MPa) was calculated from the peak load of failure. A comparison of the bond strength between the repaired specimens was conducted using one-way ANOVA and Tukey multiple comparison tests (${\alpha}$=.05). RESULTS. There were no statistically significant differences in the shear bond strength between the control group and the light curing, pressure, and oxygen inhibition groups. However, the heat treatment groups showed statistically higher bond strengths than the groups treated without heat, and the groups treated at a higher temperature resulted in higher bond strengths. Statistically significant differences were seen between groups after different degrees of heat treatment, except in groups heated at $100^{\circ}C$ and $140^{\circ}C$. CONCLUSION. Strong bonding can be achieved between a bis-acryl base and bis-acryl repair material after heat treatment.
