Purpose: Many concerns have appeared in banking sector in the digital era and one of them is that technology development will increase operation costs of banks. Motivated by this issue, our study aims to explore the effect of technological and digital investments on costeffectiveness of banking operation. Research design, data and methodology: To reach a clear answer, we use the data of 12 commercial banks spanning from 2011 to 2020 in Vietnam and employ multivariate regression analysis as well as perform various robustness tests. Results: Our regression result indicates that the adverse effect of technological spending on cost-effective operation. This finding still remains unchanged when we conduct different robust tests. Also, we find that this negative impact becomes more evident in large banks than in small ones. Conclusions: The paper provides one of the most important empirical results for mangers and policy-makers in banking sphere, especially in Vietnam where regulators have been calling for continuously investing into technological innovation in banks. The evidence confirms that banks should carefully consider an increase in spending on distribution information and communication technologies when constructing business strategies related to expanding digitalization. Our research is also useful for countries having similar financial structure to Vietnam.

Objectives: The objective of this study was to characterize mental health issues among Vietnamese healthcare workers (HCWs) and to identify related factors. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted with 990 HCWs in 2021. Their mental health status was measured using the Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale. Results: In total, 49.9%, 52.3%, and 29.8% of respondents were found to have depression, anxiety, and stress, respectively. The multivariable linear regression model revealed that factors associated with increased anxiety scores included depression scores (β, 0.45; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.39 to 0.51) and stress scores (β, 0.46; 95% CI, 0.41 to 0.52). Factors associated with increased depression scores included being frontline HCWs (β, 0.57; 95% CI, 0.10 to 1.10), stress scores (β, 0.50; 95% CI, 0.45 to 0.56), and anxiety scores (β, 0.41; 95% CI, 0.36 to 0.47), while working experience was associated with reduced depression scores (β, -0.08; 95% CI, -0.16 to -0.01). Factors associated with increased stress scores included working experience (β, 0.08; 95% CI, 0.00 to 0.16), personal protective equipment interference with daily activities (β, 0.55; 95% CI, 0.07 to 1.00), depression scores (β, 0.54; 95% CI, 0.48 to 0.59), and anxiety scores (β, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.39 to 0.50), while age was associated with reduced stress scores (β, -0.12; 95% CI, -0.20 to -0.05).Conclusions: Specific interventions are necessary to enhance and promote the mental health of HCWs so they can successfully cope with the circumstances of the pandemic.
Entertainment in a Changing World: Vietnam and Video Gaming
Phan Quang Anh 부산외국어대학교 아세안연구원 2019 Suvannabhumi Vol.11 No.2
The purpose of this paper is to shed light on the development timeline of video gaming in Vietnam. This paper would examine how Southeast Asia has become a key component in constructing the façade of the global gaming industry, focusing on Vietnam. As a communist country, Vietnam showed a distinctive pattern of video gaming reception. Video gaming has become a popular amusement among Vietnamese youth and has also helped Vietnam integrate into the modern world after the Vietnam War.

This paper presents a first proposed real-sized Hidden boundary Void precast concrete Slab, a so-called HVS. In order to assess and investigate push-over behaviors of the novel structural system, five types of real size specimens manufactured in factory are tested by corresponding static loading protocol experiments. Bending tests along with shear tests in both cases of presence and absence of topping concrete slabs are performed. Besides, composite slabs, which are two half-unit products connected by steel plates and U-bolts in the long edges, are surveyed to assess uniform characteristics of slab systems. Simultaneously, estimating calculations are proposed for the structural bearing capacity of partially prestressed concrete flagged sections. Proposed equations are developed according to provisions of several current global and local design standards. Moreover, this study provides another predicting approach using finite element analysis of MIDAS FEA for analytical performances of specimens. Thanks to these experimental and analytical results, the general characteristic of HVS may be observed, and then studied for realization in the field of prestressed precast concrete industries for construction.

Purpose: This study aims to investigate the impact of investing into technology development on banking performance in an emerging country. Research design, data and methodology: Based on the data of 12 commercial banks listed in Vietnam from 2011 to 2019 and performing multivariable regression analyses as well as conducting a variety of robustness tests, we carry out the empirical investigation to discover this impact. Results: Our empirical evidence shows that these spending help to improve significantly performance of banks. Particularly, the technology expenditures have positive effect on the net interest margin and the non-interest income in which the level of influence on the latter is relatively remarkable in comparison with the former. At the same time, the result does not support the view that increasingly spending on technology may lead banks to face the risk of instability. Conclusions: Overall, our empirical analysis indicates that increasing investment into distribution information and communication technologies will help to enhance business strategies of banks and thus we advocate the bright side of technology development and digitalization in banking sector. We believe that the research is useful for both managers, regulators and policy makers in Vietnam as well as in countries having similar financial structure.
Magnetic properties and magnetocaloric effect in Fe90-x Sn x Zr10 alloy ribbons
Phan, T. L.,Dan, N. H.,Thanh, T. D.,Mai, N. T.,Ho, T. A.,Yu, S. C.,Le, Anh-Tuan,Phan, M. H. Korean Physical Society 2015 THE JOURNAL OF THE KOREAN PHYSICAL SOCIETY Vol.66 No.8

This work points out the possibility of tuning the magnetocaloric (MC) effect in Fe90-x Sn (x) Zr-10 alloy ribbons in the temperature range from 235 to 315 K by changing the Sn-doping content (x). Under an applied field change from 0 to 50 kOe, the maximum magnetic-entropy changes around the ferromagnetic-paramagnetic phase transition are about 3.6, 4.1 and 3.3 J kg(-1)center dot K-1 for x = 0, 2 and 4, respectively, which correspond to relative cooling powers of 280 similar to 410 J center dot kg(-1). Studying the magnetic properties of the alloy ribbons based on Banerjee's criteria and assessing the magneticordering parameter n = dLn|Delta S (m) |/dLnH (where Delta S (m) and H are the magnetic-entropy change and the magnetic field, respectively) reveals that the alloys undergo a second-order phase transition and exhibit a short-range ferromagnetic order. The nature of these phenomena is further analyzed by means of the results obtained from the analyses of the crystal structure, the Curie-Weiss law, and the Griffith phase.
