Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify social support networks for each life-cycle stage of adults. Method: A total of 1,047 subjects included 454 young adults, 262 middle-aged adults and 331 senior adults. Data were collected using Oh’s Korean Version Norbeck’s Social Support Questionnaire (NSSQ), and analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA. Result: For the young adults, parents were the top and second priority as important social support resources, the third was siblings, and then friends. For the middle-aged, spouse was the first priority as an important social support resource, while the second and the third were children. For the senior adults, children ranked from the top to the seventh priority. The mean number of social support resources was 13.23 for the young adult, 12.93 for the middle-aged and 5.30 for the senior adults. Social support networks of the young adults significantly differed according to gender and marital status. That of the middle-aged significantly differed according to family size. In addition, that of the senior adults was significantly different according to marital status, economic status, religion and family size. Conclusion: It is essential to consider social support networks for each life-cycle stage of adults when making a social support intervention program.

The aim of this study was performed to evaluate the effects of ice-binding protein from the arctic yeast Leucosporidium (LeIBP) supplementation on cryopreservation of boar sperm. The collected semen was diluted (1.5×108/ml) in lactose egg yolk (LEY) and cooled at 5°C for 3 h. The cooled semen was then diluted (1×108/ml) in LeIBP containing LEY with 9% glycerol and maintained at 5°C for 30 min. The semen was divided into six experimental groups (control, 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05 and 0.1 mg/ml of LeIBP). The straws were kept on above the liquid nitrogen (LN2) vapors for 20 minutes and then plunged into LN2. After thawing, computer-assisted sperm analysis was used for sperm motility and flow cytometry was performed to assess the viability, acrosome integrity (FITC-PSA/PI), ROS (DCF/PI), lipid peroxidation (BODIPY C11/PI) and apoptosis (Annexin V/PI), respectively. No significant responses were observed for sperm motility. However, sperm viability was significantly increased on 0.05 and 0.1 mg/ml of LeIBP groups compared to control (P < 0.05). In addition, acrosome integrity was significantly increases LeIBP groups (P < 0.05) and both ROS and lipid peroxidation level were lower in all LeIBP groups than those of control (P < 0.05). On the other hand, a significant higher apoptosis rate was observed in 0.05 and 0.1 mg/ml of LeIBP groups compared to control (P < 0.05). It can be assumed that a supplementation of LeIBP in boar sperm freezing extender is an effective method to increase the sperm qualities after cryopreservation.

This study was performed to evaluate effects of Leucosporidium ice-binding protein (LeIBP) supplementation on boar (Duroc) sperm freezing. The collected semen was diluted (1.5×10⁸ /mL) in lactose egg yolk (LEY) and cooled at 5°C for 3 h. The cooled semen was then diluted (1×10⁸ /mL) in LeIBP containing LEY with 9% glycerol and maintained at 5°C for 30 min. The semen was divided into six experimental groups (control, 0.001, 0.005, 0.01, 0.05, and 0.1 mg/mL of LeIBP). The straws were stayed above the liquid nitrogen (LN2) vapors for 20 minutes and then plunged into LN2. After thawing, sperm parameters such as motility, viability, and acrosome integrity, intracellular reactive oxygen species (ROS), apoptosis, and undetected lipid peroxidation were determined. Computer assisted sperm analysis was used for sperm parameters and flowcytometry was performed to acrosome integrity (FITC-PSA/PI), ROS (DCFHDA/ PI), lipid peroxidation (BODIPY C11/PI), and apoptosis (Annexin V/PI), respectively. The differences were not in sperm motility, but in viability of 0.05 and 0.1 mg/mL groups compared to control (p<0.05). Higher acrosome integrity was observed in LeIBP groups compared to control (p<0.05), except for 0.001 group. Both ROS and lipid peroxidation level were lower in all LeIBP groups than that of control (p<0.05). Furthermore, lower apoptosis rate was observed in both 0.005 and 0.1 LeIBP groups compared to control (p<0.05). It can be postulated that a supplementation of LeIBP in boar sperm freezing extender is an effective method to increase the sperm qualities after cryopreservation.

Generally, the optical components are fabricated by grinding, lapping, and polishing. And, those processes take long time to obtain such a high surface quality. Therefore, in the case of large optical component, the on-machine inspection (OMI) is essential. Because, the work piece is fragile and difficult to set up for fabricating and measuring. This paper is concerned about a swing-arm method for measuring surface profile of large optical concave mirror. The measuring accuracy and uncertainty for suggested method are studied. The experimental results show that this method is useful specially in lapping process with the accuracy of $3\~5\;{\mu}m$. Those inspection data are provided for correcting the residual figuring error in lapping or polishing processes.

Sung Hwan Cho,Mihyang Ha,Yong Hoon Cho,Je Ho Ryu,Kwangho Yang,Kang Ho Lee,Myoung-Eun Han,Sae-Ock Oh,Yun Hak Kim 한국간담췌외과학회 2018 Annals of hepato-biliary-pancreatic surgery Vol.22 No.4
Backgrounds/Aims: Discovery of new prognostic factors for cases in which the pancreatic cancer scoring and staging system does not result in a clear definition is imperative. We examined the role of Human AlkB homolog H5 (ALKBH5) as a prognostic marker for pancreatic cancer. Methods: Patient data were extracted from the International Cancer Genome Consortium (ICGC) and The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA). The prognostic value of ALKBH5 was confirmed via analysis of ALKBH5 and other clinical factors, such as age, sex, and stage, using the time-dependent area under the curve (AUC) of Unos C-index, the AUC value of the receiver operating characteristics (ROC) at three years, the Kaplan-Meier survival curve, and multivariate analysis. Results: ALKBH5 showed excellent prognosis prediction in comparison with existing markers in the two independent cohorts (n=262). Kaplan-Meier survival analysis showed that ALKBH5 expression was positively associated with overall survival (log-rank test, ICGC, p=0.001; TCGA, p=0.01). Notably, comparison of C-index and AUC values in ROC analysis showed that ALKBH5 was associated with high C-index and AUC values compared with other clinical variables (C-index: ICGC, 0.621; TCGA, 0.614 and AUC at three years: ICGC, 0.609; TCGA, 0.558). Multivariate analysis demonstrated that ALKBH5 is an independent prognostic factor (ICGC, p=0.0123; TCGA, p<0.001). Conclusions: These findings contribute to the study of RNA methylation in pancreatic cancer. We believe that ALKBH5 is a new prognostic marker for pancreatic cancer.

Purpose Most patients with pleuropulmonary paragonimiasis can be cured by the initial single set of Praziquantel (PZQ) treatment. However, several cases have been reported to have unsatisfactory responses to the initial PZQ treatment. The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical findings of patients with pleuropulmonary paragonimiasis who needed additional PZQ treatment after the 1st set chemotherapy. Patients and Methods Thirty-two patients who were diagnosed with pleuropulmonary paragonimiasis at our institution between 2003 and 2008 were retrospectively reviewed. Results All patients were treated initially with PZQ for 3 days (1st set chemotherapy). Twenty-four patients (75.0%) showed improvement in respiratory symptoms and pulmonary involvements. However, eight patients (25.0%) suffered from relapsed respiratory symptoms and pleural effusion. For these patients, an additional 2nd set PZQ treatment resulted in the resolution of the symptoms and pulmonary involvements. The characteristics of patients who needed multi-set treatments were as follows; longer duration of respiratory symptoms (single vs multi-set treatment group; 6.67 ± 8.08 vs 17.86 ± 11.84 weeks, p=0.009), higher IgG titer (optical density, O.D.) for Pargonimus westermani (ELISA O.D. for PW, 0.54 ± 0.19 vs 0.88 ± 0.16 O.D., p=0.001) and higher frequency of multiple pulmonary lesions (% of patients with multiple lesions; 16.7% vs 50.0%, p=0.059). Conclusion The patients who had a longer duration of respiratory symptoms, higher ELISA titer for PW and/or multiple pulmonary lesions needed an additional PZQ treatment after the 1st set of chemotherapy. Close follow-up after the initial treatment is necessary especially for such patients.
