Study on the Influence of the Initial Deflection and Load Combination on the Collapse Behaviour of Continuous Stiffened Panels

Ming Cai Xu,Zhao Jun Song,Jin Pan,C. Guedes Soares 한국강구조학회 2017 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.17 No.4

Using the finite element analysis, a series stiffened panels under combined normal loads and biaxial compressions are conducted to investigate the effect of several influential factors on the ultimate limit states. Two spans/bays FE model with periodical boundary condition is adopted to consider the interaction between adjacent structural members. The initial deflections assumed as Fourier components including symmetric and asymmetric modes are used to identify the half-wave number of collapse of the local plate, which is compared with half-wave number of buckling calculated by formula. Based on the numerical results, the influences of half-wave number assumed in the equivalent initial imperfection and loads combination on the collapse behaviours of stiffened panels are discussed. It is found that lateral pressure might increase the ultimate strength of stiffened panels for the stiffener-induced failure modes. The one half-wave region of local plate influences significantly the load carrying capacity of stiffened panels.

Collapse Behaviours of Stiffened Panels Under Longitudinal Compression Considering Heating and Cooling Processes

Ming Cai Xu,Zhao Jun Song,Jin Pan 한국강구조학회 2020 International Journal of Steel Structures Vol.20 No.4

The fi re accidents casually happen during operation of ship, which would infl uence the load carrying capacity of stiff ened panel of ship structures due to the thermal load. The present paper aims to understand the infl uence of thermal loads on the collapse behaviour of stiff ened panels under longitudinal compressive load. Considering the heating and cooling down processes, the collapse behaviours of the stiff ened panels under combined in-plane displacement and heat loads representative of fi re accident are simulated in the FE (fi nite element) analysis herein. Firstly, the thermal load is considered to investigate the stress state of the stiff ened panels during heating and cooling processes. It is found that the stiff ened panels would collapse during thermal loads for the structure with large heated zone. After that, the longitudinal compression loads are applied to assess the collapse strength of the stiff ened panels. The parametric studies including diff erent geometrical dimensions and areas of heat zone are performed in detail to quantify the eff ects of heat loads on the collapse behaviours of stiff ened panels. It is found that the expansion could produce biaxial stress state that depends on not only in-plane stiff ness but also collapse modes, and for stiff ened panels with various heated area the cooling down to room temperature induce similar ultimate strength to that without considering heat loads.

      • Clinical Implications of p57KIP2 Expression in Breast Cancer

        Xu, Xiao-Yin,Wang, Wen-Qian,Zhang, Lei,Li, Yi-Ming,Tang, Miao,Jiang, Nan,Cai, Shou-Liang,Wei, Liang,Jin, Feng,Chen, Bo Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.10

Objective: To study the relationship between expression of $p57^{KIP2}$ and prognosis and other clinicopathological parameters in invasive breast cancers. Methods: We assessed the expression of $p57^{KIP2}$ in 89 cases of invasive breast cancer and 20 cases of normal breast tissue by immunohistochemical methods and analyzed the results with SPSS software (ver. 16.0). Result: The positive expression rates of $p57^{KIP2}$ protein in the invasive breast cancers and surrounding normal tissue were 30.3% (27/89) and 65% (13/20), respectively. Cases with no $p57^{KIP2}$ expression exhibited a significantly higher post-operative distant metastasis rate than those with $p57^{KIP2}$ expression (37.9% vs. 14.8%; P = 0.01). DFS analysis showed that $p57^{KIP2}$-/C-erbB-2+ tumors also exhibited a significantly higher post-operative distant metastasis rate than the other groups (66.7% vs. 29.2%; P = 0.007), as did $p57^{KIP2}$-/p53+ tumors (64.3% vs. 22.7%; P = 0.001). Survival analysis revealed that $p57^{KIP2}$ was associated with breast cancer-specific survival overall (P = 0.045, log-rank test). Subgroup analysis demonstrated that individuals with $p57^{KIP2}$-/C-erbB-2+tumors experienced significantly worse post-operative survival than those with $p57^{KIP2}$-/C-erbB-2- or other tumors (P = 0.006, log-rank test). $p57^{KIP2}$-/p53+ tumors were associated with significantly worse post-operative survival than $p57^{KIP2}$-/p53- or other tumors (P = 0.001, log-rank test). Cox regression analysis showed that $p57^{KIP2}$ was a non-independent prognostic factor for breast cancer (P = 0.303). Conclusions: $p57^{KIP2}$ is expressed at low levels in invasive breast cancer and is associated with better overall survival rate and disease-free survival in breast cancer patients, but it was a non-independent prognostic factor for breast cancer. Thus, the connection between $p57^{KIP2}$/p53 and $p57^{KIP2}$/C-erbB-2 may provide biomarkers for breast cancer.

Drilling Machinability Evaluation on New Developed High-strength T800S/250F CFRP Laminates

Jinyang Xu,Ming Chen,Qinglong An,Xiaojiang Cai 한국정밀공학회 2013 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol. No.

The new developed high-strength CFRP laminates are widely employed in varieties of applications and are mainly used in main loadbearing structural components of large commercial aircrafts. Drilling is one of the important operations in manufacturing composite structure, often a final operation during assembly. Defects such as burrs and delamination in drilling of CFRP are always serious problems and lead to rejection and impose heavy loss. In the present research, the machinability of a new developed high-strength T800S/250F CFRP laminate is evaluated by using CVD coated twist drill and CVD coated dagger drill. The machinability was investigated in terms of drilling forces, burr defect, hole wall surface morphology and delamination damage. The results indicate that feed rate is the most significant factor affecting the machined surface finish followed by the spindle speed. The dagger drill showed excellent drilling performance than the twist drill and was more suitable for drilling of T800S/250F CFRP laminate. The results also highlight the importance of employing the high speed drilling to minimize the drilling-induced defects.

Cooling/Lubrication Performance of Dry and Supercritical CO2-Based Minimum Quantity Lubrication in Peripheral Milling Ti-6Al-4V

        Chongyan Cai,Xu Liang,Qinglong An,Zhengrui Tao,Wei-Wei Ming,Ming Chen 한국정밀공학회 2021 International Journal of Precision Engineering and Vol.8 No.2

Cryogenic environments are often adopted in machining difficult-to-cut materials such as Ti-6Al-4V alloy to control its cutting heat and improve machinability. This paper aims to study the machinability of Ti-6Al-4V in finish milling process under four green cutting environments (CEs), i.e. dry, supercritical carbon dioxide (scCO 2 ), supercritical CO 2 -based minimum quantity lubrication with water-based cutting fluid (scCO 2 -WMQL), supercritical CO 2 -based minimum quantity lubrication with oil-on-water droplets cutting fluid (scCO 2 -OoWMQL). Peripheral finish-milling of Ti-6Al-4V was conducted under various cutting speeds, feed rates, radial depth of cut and CEs. The cutting force, cutting temperature, surface morphology and surface roughness were analysed. The experiment results show that the minimum cutting force and its coefficients, cutting temperature and surface roughness are obtained in scCO 2 -OoWMQL environment because of its excellent cooling/ lubrication and chip evacuation performance, whereas the worst friction in the tool-workpiece interface leads to the worst performance under scCO 2 CE. Additionally, the machined surface profile, cutting force and their spectrums under four CEs were studied. The fundamental frequency of machined surface profile is equal to that of cutting force envelope under dry and scCO 2 CEs, which is also called beat frequency, therefore scCO 2 -WMQL and scCO 2 -OoWMQL CEs can improve the milling stability. The results indicate that scCO 2 -OoWMQL provides the best performance with regard to cutting force, cutting temperature, surface finish and clean production.

Cold hardiness characteristic of the overwintering pupae of fall webworm Hyphantria cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae) in the northeast of China

        Xiao-Rui Xu,Ming-Ming Zhu,Liang-Liang Li,Guang-Cai Zhang,Ye Zheng,Ting Li,Shou-Hui Sun 한국응용곤충학회 2015 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.18 No.1

The fallwebworm, Hyphantria cunea (Drury) (Lepidoptera: Arctiidae), is an invasive and important pest in China. Understanding the physiological–biochemical characteristics of the overwintering pupae is essential for its cold tolerance and potential distribution in the northeast of China. Results indicated that the supercooling point (SCP) of H. cunea overwintering pupae varied significantly among Jilin city (43°N, 126°E), Jilin Province, Shenyang (41.8°N, 123.4°E), Liaoning Province and Yingkou (40.39°N, 122.13°E), Liaoning Province. The average SCP in Jilin was the lowest (−23.49 ± 0.46 °C) in those of three areas. The water content in overwintering pupae had a significant positive correlation with the SCP (R = 0.848,P = 0.03). Contents of alanine (ALA) (26.00%), lysine (LYS) (30.51%) and arginine (ARG) (22.88%) in the overwintering pupae's hemolymph were higher than others. During the overwintering, the fat content in pupae's bodies decreased gradually. Analysis of variance (ANOVA) indicated that the content of trehalose in the body of H. cunea was remarkably different (P= 0.007) month by month, with the maximum in March (2.88 mg·mL−1) and the minimum (0.40 mg·mL−1) in November. Pearson's correlation test indicated that SCP had a significant negative correlation with the SOD enzyme activity (R = −0.850; P = 0.008). Thermal hysteresis activity (THA) of hemolymph was 0.68°C and 0.7–0.8°C for H. cunea pupae and larva, respectively, using differential scanning calorimetry, which suggests that the H. cunea can improve their cold tolerance through producing antifreeze proteins. These results could help us to predict the distribution of the H. cunea in the northeast of China.

      • Concurrent Weekly Docetaxel Chemotherapy in Combination with Radiotherapy for Stage III and IVA-B Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

        Wei, Wei-Hong,Cai, Xiu-Yu,Xu, Tao,Zhang, Guo-Yi,Wu, Yong-Feng,Feng, Wei-Neng,Lin, Li,Deng, Yan-Ming,Lu, Qiu-Xia,Huang, Zhe-Li Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.3

Background and Purpose: Cisplatin is the most common chemotherapeutic agent for loco-regionally advanced nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC); however, toxicity is a limiting factor for some patients. We retrospectively compared the efficacy and toxicity of weekly docetaxel-based and cisplatin-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy in loco-regionally advanced NPC. Methods and Materials: Eighty-four patients with Stage III and IVA-B NPCs, treated between 2007 and 2008, were retrospectively analyzed. Thirty received weekly docetaxel-based concurrent chemotherapy, and 43 were given weekly cisplatin-based concurrent chemotherapy. Radiotherapy was administered using a conventional technique (seven weeks, 2.0 Gy per fraction, total dose 70-74 Gy) with 6-8 Gy boosts for some patients with locally advanced disease. Results: Median follow-up time was 42.3 months (range, 8.6-50.8 months). There were no significant differences in the 3-year loco-regional failure-free survival (85.6% vs. 92.3%; p=0.264), distant failure-free survival (87.0% vs. 92.5%; p=0.171), progression-free survival (85.7% vs. 88.4%; p=0.411) or overall survival (86.5% vs. 92.5%, p=0.298) of patients treated concurrently with docetaxel or cisplatin. Severe toxicity was not common in either group. Conclusions: Weekly docetaxel-based concurrent chemoradiotherapy is potentially effective and has a tolerable toxicity; however, further investigations are required to determine if docetaxel is superior to cisplatin for advanced stage NPC.
