The Development of Fashion Design, Based on the Symbolism of the Color White

As an essential factor of plasticity in fashion, color reflects socio-cultural trends and has possessed different symbolism in its historical development. This study aims to search for an academic approach towards finding out how the concepts and symbolism of the color white were expressed in actual clothing. This will be realized through the investigation of the various meanings this particular color possesses. The secondary purpose of this study is to give shape to the results of above said academic investigation by proposing their integration into actual fashion design. The methodology employed in this study and results are as follows. First, the symbolism of the color white abstracted from the research of literature on this subject was classified into six categories; purity, grace, abstinence, sublimity, decorativeness, and avant-garde. Second, for empirical research, six designs were developed and produced into white dresses. The development of these dress designs was realized by presenting the symbolism of the aforementioned six categories into images, and the formative constructions of these images by applying various design details, expressive techniques, and characteristics of the materials. Through an investigation into the color white, which has been excluded from previous chromatics research as a major color, integration of the symbolism and chromatic image of this color into the actual fashion design process is made possible. The significance of this study is in that it proposes multifarious possibilities in fashion design, and also in extending the horizon of chromatics research in fashion through the realization of the above process.

Objectives : This study was conducted to reveal the health effects of aircraft noise on the residents live near the military airport. Methods : We sampled systematically 87 residents as the high exposed group, 58 residents as the low exposed group according to the geographical distance from the airport. We also sampled 67 residents as the control group lived far from the airport. Noise levels were measured for conform the exposures. Self-administered questionnaires for symptoms, air conduction hearing threshold level, blood pressure blood cholesterol with health examinations, and SCL-90-R were introduced to get the data from the residents. Results : The Ld/n at the area near the airport was 72.4 dB, however that of control area was 67.7 dB. The value of pure tone average, high pure tone average, and threshold of 4,000 Hz were decreased with exposure level significantly. Linear regression analysis showed that the noise exposure level of the airport was related to the hearing threshold at pure tone average, threshold of 4,000 Hz, and high pure tone average. The systemic and diastolic blood pressure showed dose-response relationship with noise exposure. The prevalence of hypertension was higher in exposed group, but not statistically significant. In linear regression, noise level was related to systolic and diastolic blood pressure with other variables such as age, sex, BMI(Body Mass Index), and family history of hypertension. SCL-90-R showed that exposed group had higher score significantly in neurotic and psychologic variable and felt the various somatic symptoms. Conclusions : These results suggest that aircraft noise would influence hearing loss at low frequencies as well as 4,000 Hz and higher frequencies, systolic and diastolic blood pressure, and psychological response.

N/A Objectives: High proportion of the elderly patients with renal disease were found to have primary glomerular disease and their clinical entities may be modified by treatment, supporting the renal biopsy as a diagnostic aid to institute appropriate therapy. Methods: We have retrospectively reviewed 49 patients of 60 years old or older in whom renal biopsies were performed from September 1985 to July, 1994. We've analyzed the histopathologic distribution, clinical presentations, clinicopathologic correlations, complications related to renal biopsy and treatment, and clinical response to the immunosuppressive therapy. Results: 1) Patients were 34 men and 15 women, 60 to 79 years of age (mean, 64.8±45) 2) The most common clinical presentation was nephrotic syndrome (65%). 3) The pathologic diagnoses of primary renal disease (36.73%) were MGN (13), MPGN (5), IgA nephropathy (5), MCNS (4), FSGS (4), Crescentic GN (2), nephrosclerosis (2) and PSGN (1). 4) The pathologic diagnoses of secondary renal disease (13.27%) were amyloidosis (4), TIN (4), HBsAg associated GN (2), cryoglobulinemia (1) and TMA (1). 5) In the cases of nephrotic syndrome with immunosuppressive therapy (20), 5 (25%) patients showed complete remission and 11 (50%) showed partial remission. 6) No one has recovered in the cases of chronic renal insufficiency and rapidly progressive renal failure. Conclusion: The most common clinical presentation and pathologic finding in the elderly were nephrotic syndrome and membranous GN respectively. The response to immunosuppressive therapy in nephrotic syndrome was good, but the possible complications related to the immunosuppression should be considered prior to the therapy. Renal biopsy is a safe procedure even in the elderly, and essential for the definitive diagnosis and for the appropriate therapy.
Acute Toxicity and General Pharmacological Action of QGC EXT

It has been shown that QGC isolated and purified from Rumecis folium found protective effects of gastritis and esophagitis which EXT is an ethanol extract of it. We examined acute toxicity and the general pharmacological action of QGC EXT to search for any side effects of it in rats, mice, guinea pigs, and cats. In a single dose toxicity study, QGC EXT didn’t show toxicological effects in rats and mice, and the LD50 was over 5 g/kg in both animals, and there were also no changes in weight, feed and water intake during these toxicological experimental periods. We examined the general pharmacological action on central controlled behavior responses, and peripheral organs including blood pressure, heart rate, respiration and gastrointestinal system, We found that there were no significant changes in body temperature, locomotors activity, stereotyped behaviors, sleeping time, and convulsion. In other studies, writhing reaction, normal body temperature, there did not appear to be any changes. The large intestine movement and electrical field stimulation-induced contraction was not changes by its EXT. In addition, the influences on blood pressure, heart rates, and respiration by QGC EXT were not found. These results indicate that QGC EXT may be very safe as a new drug, since its LD50 was very high over 5 g/kg and any side effects were not found.

Coronavirus disease 2019 vaccinations for healthcare workers (HCWs) have begun in South Korea. To investigate adverse events (AEs) of the first dose of each vaccine, any symptom was collected daily for seven days after vaccination in a tertiary hospital. We found that 1,301 of 1,403 ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 recipients and 38 of 80 BNT162b2 recipients reported AEs respectively (90.9% vs. 52.5%): injection-site pain (77.7% vs. 51.2%), myalgia (60.5% vs. 11.2%), fatigue (50.7% vs. 7.5%), headache (47.4% vs. 7.5%), and fever (36.1% vs. 5%; P < 0.001 for all). Young HCWs reported more AEs with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 than with BNT162b2. No incidences of anaphylaxis were observed. Only one serious AE required hospitalization for serious vomiting, and completely recovered. In conclusion, reported AEs were more common in recipients with ChAdOx1 nCoV-19 than in those with BNT162b2. However, most of the reported AEs were mild to moderate in severity. Sufficient explanation and preparation for expected AEs required to promote widespread vaccination.
