羊齒植物의 개고사리 (Athyrium nipponicum), 裸子植物의 은행나무(Ginkgo biloba), 雙子葉 植物의 봉선화(Impatiens Balsamina), 單子葉植物인 벼(Oryza sativa),의 根端分裂組織細胞의 微細構造를 比較하기 위하여 各 材料의 根端組織部位를 1% Osmium tetroxide로 固定하고 Methacrylate resin에 埋沒하여 100∼200Å로 切斷하여 電子顯微鏡으로 觀察하였든바 mitochondria의 fragmentation의 過程과 cristae의 構造가 明白하고, 原始色素體에는 未發達狀態인 lamellae가 存在하고 있으며 mitochondria와 原始色素體와의 크기가 區別되었다. Golgi體는 봉선화와 벼 以外에는 明白하지 못하고 endoplasmic reticulum은 全面的으로 細胞內에 均等히 分布되어 있으나 核 周圍에 많이 集中되는 傾向이 있었다. Amyloplast는 은행나무와 벼에서만 나타났으며 lipid body는 液胞속에서 形成되는 것을 觀察할 수 있었다. mitochondria, endoplasmic ieticulum, proplastid의 數는 벼, 봉선화, 은행나무, 및 개고사리의 系統的 順序로 나타났음이 特徵的이다. 細胞質에 比한 核의 크기도 벼. 봉선화, 은행나무 및 개고사리의 順序이나 nucleous의 크기는 細胞質比의 反應이었다. 은행나무에 있어서는 nucleous가 nucleoloneme의 構造를 하고있고 2個가 存在하는 것이 特異하였다. As the results of investigation of the fine structures of meristematic cell of the root tips of Athyruim nipponicum in Pteriodophyta, Ginkgo biloba in Gymnospermae, Impatiens Balsamina in Dicotyledone, and Oryza sativa in Monocotyledone, we observed the difference in them. We cut off the meristematic part of their root tips and fixed them with 1% Osmium tetroxide under the room temperature. After embeding them in methacrylate resin, we cut them into the thickness of 100-200 Å with ultramicrotome and them reinforced them with carbon in the vacuum evaporator and observted it with the electron microscope. As the results we obtained the following: 1. It was possible to observe the fragmentation process of the mitochondria and also to distinguish the proplastid from the mitochondria in their sizes. Further it was observed that there existed the constructure of unmatured lamellae in the proplastid while the mitochondria had the figure of cristae. 2. The golgi apparatus had the structure of cisternae, which were able to be seen only in the two plants of the Impatiens Balsamina and Oryza sativa, and were not apparently seen in the others than the above two. 3. The endoplasmic reticulums were distributed uniformly in the cytoplasm, however, tended to concentrate around the nucleus. 4. The formation on the amyloplast, which proved to be in the proportion to the maturity of the proplasted, was able to be seen in the oryza sativa and Ginkgo biloba, but not to be seen in the Impatiens Balsamina and Athyrium nipponicum. 5. The lipid body was found as depositional substances, which can be observed in the vacuole. 6. The cytoplasmic nucleus ratio were also found to follow the systematic order of the Oryza sativa, Impatiens Balsamina, Ginkgo biloba, and Athyrium nipponicum. 7. The numbers of the mitochondria, endoplasmic reticulum, and proplastid which are contained in the cytoplasm were characterized by following the systematic order of the Oryza sativa, Impatiens Balsamina, Ginkgo biloba and Athyrium nipponicum. 8. The order of the sizes of nucleous is just opposite to the cytoplasmic nucleus ratio. 9. The nucleous of Ginkgo biloba had the structure of nucleoloneme, and was characterized by having two nuclei.
공단지역 및 청정지역 식물 잎권의 잎표면세균 및 내산성세균의 분포

산성강하물의 영향을 받는 대천공단지역과 영향을 받지 않는 청정지역인 대전 계족산 자연휴양림에서 자라는 밤나무(Castanea crenat)의 잎표면에서 서식하는 총세균수, 생존세균수, 종속영양세균수, 내산성세균수를 1996년 8월부터 1997년 8월까지 5회에 걸쳐 조사하였다. 공단지역 잎표면 평균 총세균수, 생존세균수 및 종속영양세균수는 각각 9.9×10^(5) cell/㎠, 1.6×10⁴cell/㎠, 7.1×10³cell/㎠,로서 청정지역에 비하여 각각 1.5배, 2배, 2.6배 정도로 관찰되었다. MPN법으로 측정한 pH 5.6애서의 잎표면 내산성세를수는 공단지역 3.3×10⁴, 청정지역 3.4×10⁴MON/㎠로 거의 같았고, pH 4.0에서의 내산성세균수는 공단지역애서 1.9×10^-(-1)MPN/㎠인 반면 청정지역에서는 전혀 검출되지 않았다. pH 3.0에서의 내산성 잎표면세균수는 공단지역과 청정지역의 잎권 어느 곳에서도 검출되지 않았다. 한편 계절별 잎표면세균수의 분포는 대체로 잎이 나기 시작하여 크기가 가장 작은 5월에 최대를, 그리고 낙엽이 지는 11월에 최소를 나타내었다. 이런 결과는 공단지역의 대기오염물질의 침적이 주변의 식물 잎표면 세균수를 감소시키지는 않으며, 특히 산성강하물의 영향으로 내산성세균수가 증가함을 보여주고 있다. Total, direct viable count, and acid-tolerant epiphytic bacterial population sizes were quantified on leaves of chestnut tree (Castanea crenata S. et Z.) near Taejon Industrial Estate affected by acid precipitation and deposition as well as in the clean natural forest area, Mt. Kyejok, in Taejon city from August 1996 to August 1997. Geometric mean numbers of total, direct viable count, and acid-tolerant epiphytic bacteria were 9.9×10^(5) cell/㎠, 1.6×10^(6)cell/㎠, and 7.1×10³cfu/㎠ respecfvely, being 1.5, 2, and 2.6 times those in the clean area. Acid-to-lerant epiphytic bfcterial numbers at pH 5.6 by MPN method were 3.3×10" in the industrial area, about the same as the number,3.4×104 MPNicni, of the clean area. Acid-tolerant bacterial number at pH 4.0 was 1.9×10^(-1)MPN/㎠ in the industrial area, whereas none was detected in the clean area. Acid-tolerant bacteria at pH 3.0 were not detected at all in the industrial area as well as in the clean area. Epiphytic bacterial population sizes were generally the greatest in May when leaves are emerged and grew but the lowest in November when defoliation occurs. These results showed that air pollutant deposition on leaves did not cause a deuease of epiphytic bacteria at least and acid deposition on leaves did cause an increase of acid-tolerant bacteria.

The aims of study were to investigate the effects of intraperitoneal (i.p.) infusion of ghrelin on pancreatic ${\alpha}$-amylase outputs and the responses of pancreatic proteins to ghrelin that may relate to the pancreatic exocrine. Six male Sprague-Dawley rats (300 g) were randomly divided into two groups, a control group (C, n = 3) and a treatment group (T, $10.0{\mu}g/kg$ BW, n = 3). Blood samples were collected from rat caudal vein once time after one hour injection. The concentrations of plasma ghrelin, cholecystokinin (CCK) and alfa-amylase activity were evaluated by enzyme immunoassay (EIA) kit. Two-dimensional gel electrophoresis (2-DE) analysis was conducted to separate the proteins in pancreas tissue. Results showed that the i.p. infusion of ghrelin at doses of $10.0{\mu}g/kg$ body weight (BW) increased the plasma ghrelin concentrations (p = 0.07) and elevated the plasma CCK level significantly (p < 0.05). Although there was no statistically significant, the ${\alpha}$-amylase activity tended to increase. The proteomics analysis indicated that some pancreatic proteins with various functions were up- or down-regulated compared with control group. In conclusion, ghrelin may have role in the pancreatic exocrine, but the signaling pathway was still not clear. Therefore, much more functional studies focus on these found proteins are needed in the near future.

We shoud give attention to Wernicke`s encephalopathy as a cause of sudden coma & respirafory arrest in patients, who are not usually suspected to develop the disorder and empirical treatment with thiamine in cases of coma of unknown cause is recommended. Respiratory stimulants, doxapram & aminophylline have an effect in assisting ventilatory weaning in patient with central hypoventilation as a complication of acute Wernicke`s encephalopathy No previous reports where doxapram had been used to assist weaning from mechanical ventilation in adults were noted. Nor has newly developed central hypoventilation been identified as an impediment to weaning in literature to date in Korea. We reported a rare case of Wernicke`s encephalopathy caused by poor oral intake & inadequate nutritional suppliment after car accident, showing acute coma & respiratory arrest and treated adequately by thiamine replacement & mechanical ventilation with respiratory stimulant.

<P>In this paper, a compact gripper system is designed to pick up meso-scale parts. A mechanical gripping method is chosen with a new type of joint. Based on the kinematics and material mechanics, the gripper motion is analyzed. Finally, a prototype gripper system based on the design and analysis results is fabricated. The motion principle is checked using laser diodes and position sensing detectors.</P>

Embryonic stem (ES) cells proliferate extensively in the undifferentiated state and have the potential to differentiate into a variety of cell types in response to various environmental cues. The generation of functional dopaminergic neurons from ES cells is promising for cell replacement therapy to treat Parkinson's disease. We compared the in vitro differentiation potential of pluripotent human embryonic stem (hES, MB03) cells induced with basic fibroblast growth factor (bFGF) or retinoic acid (RA). Both types of treatment resulted in similar neural cell differentiation patterns at the terminal differentiation stage, specifically, 75% neurons and 11% glial cells. Additionally, treatment of hES cells with brain derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) or transforming growth factor (TGF)- during the terminal differentiation stage led to significantly increased tyrosine hydroxylase (TH) expression, compared to control (P<0.05). In contrast, no effect was observed on the rate of mature or glutamic acid decarboxylase-positive neurons. Immunostaining and HPLC analyses revealed the higher levels of TH (20.3%) and dopamine in bFGF and TGF- treated hES cells than in RA or BDNF treated hES cells. The results indicate that TGF- may be successfully used in the bFGF induction protocol to yield higher numbers of functional dopaminergic neurons from hES cells.
