Association between beverage intake and obesity in children

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Numerous researches have studied the association between sugar intake and obesity of children in many countries. This study was undertaken to investigate the association between beverage intake and obesity of children by reviewing a database for total sugar contents established in all foods and presented in a nutrition survey by the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey (KNHANES). SUBJECTS/METHODS: Data of 1,520 children aged 6-11 years in the 6th KNHANES (2013-2015) were analyzed for this study. A database for total sugar intake comprises the total sugar contents of all foods included in the results of a nutrition survey using the 24-hour recall method of 6th KNHANES. Beverages were categorized into carbonated beverages, fruit & vegetable drinks, other drinks, tea, and coffee. RESULTS: The average daily beverage intake of all children was 131.75 g/day, and the average daily total sugar intake in beverages was 13.76 g/day. Carbonated beverages had the highest intake rate (58.85 g/day) and also ranked highest for sugar intake (6.36 g/day). After adjusting for confounding variables, the odds ratio for obesity in children with beverage intake of ≥ 200 mL/day significantly increased by 1.83 times (95% CI, 1.11-3.00) as compared to children with beverage intake of < 200 mL/day. Also, a significant increase was observed in the odds ratio for obesity in total children (2.41 times; 95% CI, 1.35-4.33) and boys (3.15 times; 95% CI, 1.53-6.49) with carbonated beverage intake of ≥ 200 mL/day when compared with children who consumed < 200 mL/day. CONCLUSION: A positive association is observed between beverage intake and obesity in Korean children. In particular, an intake of carbonated beverages has a positive correlation with childhood obesity in boys. This study can therefore be used as scientific evidence for reducing sugar, and for the continuous management and research on beverages.

A 60-year-old man with a 12 cm mass involving the right kidney and a renal vein tumor thrombus extending to the intrahepatic inferior vena cava (IVC), was scheduled for a radical nephrectomy concomitant with an IVC thrombectomy. During the operation, through intraoperative transesophageal echocardiography (TEE) monitoring, a migrating tumor thrombus was promptly detected. After the operation, a filling defect in the posterior basal segmental or subsegmental pulmonary arteries of the lower lobe of the right lung was observed on chest computed tomography. Intraoperative TEE provides additional information to help guide the surgical intervention and medical treatment.

이 연구에서는 운전자의 주의 집중을 저해할 수 있는 위험한 상황에서 진동 촉각 단서의 제시 간격과 시각적 표적의 제시 위치 일치 여부에 따라 나타날 수 있는 촉진효과와 억제효과의 가능성과 함께 회귀억제 현상이 일어날 경우 눈의 움직임엔 어떠한 변화가 있는지를 살펴보고자 하였다. 운전 중 촉각으로 공간정보를 전달하기 위해 5×5 배열의 진동단자로 구성한 진동시스템을 운전자 시트의 등에 부착하였으며, Flicker paradigm 을 사용하여 시각적 변화를 탐색하는 실험을 실시하였다. 두 독립변인으로는 유효성(유효, 비유효, 통제조건)과 자극제시간격(pre 1440ms, pre 2160ms, pre 2880ms)을 설정하였고, 바뀐 시각자극을 찾는데 걸린 시간과 4 분면 안에서 바뀐 물체의 위치를 올바르게 찾을 수 있는지의 여부를 종속변인으로 측정하였다. This study investigated that the possibility of the facilitation and inhibition effects resulting from the SOAs of the vibrotactile cue and whether the location of the presented visual target corresponds to that of the cue, observing the changes in eye movement when IOR appears. To convey spatial haptic cue-based information while driving, we installed the haptic interface using vibrotactile signals with 5-by-5 tactor array on the back of the driver's seat and conducted a visual search experiment based on flicker paradigm. The two independent variables were validity (valid, invalid, no cueing) and the interval between the onset of the cue and onset of the target (pre 1440ms, pre 2160ms, pre 2880ms), and reaction times (RTs) for correct responded trials were measured as dependent variables.

이 연구에서는 운전자가 예상하지 못한 장애물이나 차량의 갑작스런 진입에 의해 안전을 위협받을 수 있는 위험한 상황에서 어떤 감각 양상의 단서를 미리 제공하느냐의 여부에 따라 나타날 수 있는 반응촉진효과의 가능성을 살펴보고자 한다. 운전 중 촉각으로 공간정보를 전달하기 위해 5x5 배열의 진동단자로 구성한 진동시스템을 운전자 시트의 등에 부착하였으며, Flicker paradigm을 사용하여 시각적 변화를 탐색하는 실험을 실시하였다. 두 독립변인으로는 햅틱(없음, 있음)과 청각(없음, 언어-왼쪽/오른쪽/뒤쪽, 비언어-왼쪽/오른쪽/뒤쪽 방향의 차 경적 소리)을 조작하였고, 정확히 응답한 시행에 한하여 그 반응 시간을 종속변인으로서 측정하였다. 총 20명(남자 10명, 여자 10명)의 실험 참가자에게 가능한 한 빠르고 정확하게 세 가지 미러 중 바뀐 영역을 식별해내어 그에 대한 반응으로서 즉시 자동차의 페달을 밟고 해당 영역을 응시하는 것이 주어진 과제였다. Twenty participants (10 female and 10 male) were instructed to identify changed areas as quickly and correctly as possible by pressing car pedals and staring at each mirror.
국내 스타트업의 현황 및 성공요인 분석: ㈜우아한형제들의 사례를 통하여

새로운 고용창출과 경제성장의 핵심동력으로서 스타트업의 중요성이 더욱 강조됨에 따라 본 연구는 국내 스타트업의 현황과 성공요인을 분석하고자 하였다. 스타트업으로 시작해 유니콘기업으로 성장한 ㈜우아한형제들의 성공요인을 ERIS모델과 성장단계별 모델로 구분하여 성공요인을 도출하였다. ERIS모델 성공요인은 창업자요인과 독특한 문화를 고유한 자원으로 인식한 자원요인, 블랜딩을 통한 산업환경 요인과 사업 확장으로 플랫폼 다각화를 진행한 전략요인이 주축이 되었다. 성장단계별 성공요인은 기존의 경쟁자와 차별화를 두었다는 점이며 상업화단계에서는 새로운 사업모델이 시장의 신뢰를 얻으면서 수익을 상승시켰고, 젊은 층의 공감을 얻은 공격적인 마케팅은 국내 · 외 투자사로부터 대규모의 투자금을 유치할 수 있었고, 성장단계에서는 매니아 중심의 마케팅을 유지하면서 플랫폼 다각화 전략을 펼친 것이 중요한 성공요인으로 작용하였다. 이와 같은 ㈜우아한형제들의 성공요인 분석이 더 많은 국내 유니콘기업의 탄생을 위한 밑거름이 되었으면 하는 바램이다. As startup companies are recognized as the important source of job creation and economic growth, the study is trying to find out the current situation of startup companies and their success factors in South Korea. The study analyzes the success factor of Woowa Brothers recognized as a unicorn start-up company in 2018 by using ERIS model and Start-up Developmental Stages. The ERIS model emphasizes Entrepreneurs, Resources, Industry Environment and Strategy for company performance and three developmental stages are divided into initiation, commercial and growth stages. The results indicate that the Woowa Brothers’ success factor was to catch the appropriate timing in ERIS and to combine unique methods by differentiating itself from existing competitors at each stage. With analyses of success factor of Woowa Brothers as a case model, the study reveals limitations and recommends the direction of future research for producing more unicorn companies in South Korea.
