저자들은 우울증의 동물모형에서 serotonin계와 choline계가 기억기능에 어떤 효과가 있는지 알아보고자 하였다. 27마리의 백서에게 만성적으로 예측할 수 없는 경미한 스트레스를 4주간 처리하여 1% 자당섭취량의 유의한 저하를 보인 우울증 동물모델을 형성시켰다. 실험군은 선택적 serotonin 재흡수 차단제의 하나인 fluoxetine을 choline과 병합투여하였으며. choline 단독투여군 및 saline 투여군과 비교하였다. 우울백서에게 각각의 약물을 4주간에 걸쳐서 복강내주사하였다. 약물투여 1일 1주 2주,3주 그리고 4주째에 수동적 회피 학습의 파지검사를 실시하여 각 실험군의 파지검사 성적을 측정, 비교하였다. 실험결과를 보면 : 1) Fluoxetine과 choline 병합투여군은 약물투여 1주부터 4주까지의 파지검사에서 saline 투여군보다 유의미한 파지 잠재기의 유지를 보여 choline 단독투여 군보다 조기에 효과를 나타냈다. 2) Choline 단독투여 군은 3주부터 4주까지의 파지검사에서 saline 투여 군보다 유의미한 파지 잠재기의 유지를 보였다. 이상의 연구 결과에서 우울상태의 동물모형에서 수동적 회피학습의 파지 ·재생에 있어 choline단독투여보다 choline과 fluoxetine의 병합투여가 좀더 조기에 효과를 나타낸 것으로 보아, serotonin계와 choline계의 상호작용이 장기기억의 저장 및 재생에 긍정적인 영향을 미친다고 생각된다. This study was performed to evaluate the effects of serotonin and choline on the memory unction in rat model of depression. Chronic exposure to mild unpredictable stress was found to depress the consumption of sweet 1% sucrose solution in the Sprague-Dawley rats. Weidentified depressive behaviours in 27 Sprague-Dawley rad. Rats in experiments were stratified into 3 groups, ie, fluoxetine with choline, choline, and saline control. Memory function was evaluated by passive avoidance learning and retention tests. We evaluated how long memory retention would remain improved at training-testing intervals of 1 day, 1 week,2 week,3 week, and 4 week in depressive state of the Sprague-Dawley rats during 4 weeks of experimental drugs treatment. The results were as fo11ows : 1) The fluoxetine with choline-treated group showed significant differences in the maintenance of retention from the saline control at 1,2,3, and 4 week training-testing interval. 2) The choline-treated group showed significant differences in the maintenance of retention from the saline control at 3 and 4 week training-testing interval. In summary, the combined treatment of fluoxetine with choline showed earlier effects on memory function compared with choline alone in the passive avoidance retention test in the animal model of depression. We suggest that there are synergistic interaction between serotonin and choline in the long term memory function in rat model of depression.

Flocculant-producing microorganisms were screened from obtained strains in the laboratory using a pulp-wastewater treatment as the flocculating agent. K-111 strain that had high flocculating activity among them was selected and identified as Bacillus sp. K-111 16s rDNA sequencing. The favorable medium for the production of flocculant was glucose 1.5%, NH_4NO_3 0.2%, tryptone 0.01%, K_2HPO_4 0.08%, KH_2PO_4 0.06%, CaCO_3 0.03%, MgSO_4·7H_2O 0.005%, MnSO_4 0.005% in 1 liter of D.W. at initial pH 7.0. The optimum culture temperature and pH were 30℃ and pH 7.0, respectively. the flocculating activity was observed most highly after 36 to 48 hr of cultivation at the optimum conditions. the flocculating activity of produced biopolymer on optimum conditions was about 2.5-fold higher than that of screening medium.

Aortic transection or interruption is a rare condition which developed after an acute deceleration injury. Its occurrence depends on the location and direction of the force applied and is usually from motor vehicle accident or falling down. The exact incidence of aortic transection in trauma is not known but, when develops, only about 10-15% of the victims can survive and be transported to the hospital. Even in the survivors, majority of them will be fatal within a few days if a prompt diagnosis and surgical treatments are not made. Aggressive diagnostic work-up is recommended for the patients with high suspicious index, which would salvage the victims with this fatal condition. We report the experience of two cases of aortic transection or interruption following motor vehicle accidents.
Development, Validation, and Utilization of Large Axiom® Soybean SNP Genotyping Array

Soybean is an important worldwide crop of dietary protein and oil resources for human foods and animal feeds. However, soybean breeding and improvement has been experienced challenges by a narrow germplasms. SNP genotyping array is regarded as a promising tool for dissecting wild and cultivated germplasms to find important genes by high-density genetic mapping and genome-wide association studies (GWAS). Here, we present the establishment of a large soyaSNP array and its use for diversity analysis and high density linkage mapping. More than 4 million high-quality SNPs identified from 16 high-depth and 31 low-depth soybean genome resequencing data were used to select 180,961 SNPs for the Axiom® SoyaSNP array. Our validation analysis for a set of 222 diverse soybean lines showed that a total of 171,161 markers were good quality for genotyping. Of the converted SNPs, 82.6% SNPs had a marker spacing of less than 9 kb and 17.4% SNPs greater than 9 kb, thereby suggesting that our array is likely suitable for GWAS of soybean germplasms. In the GWAS for seed protein content in the wild soybean germplasms with the size of 1,135 accessions, 22 loci on 12 chromosomes showed significant association (-logP>4). The highest associated peaks were shown at the 28 Mbp region on Gm05 (-logP=5.89), at 45 Mbp on Gm03 (-logP=5.32), and at 2.8 Mbp on Gm17 (-logP=5.00). Of the 22 associations, 8 corresponded with the location of previously reported seed protein QTLs and 14 regions is thought to be new QTLs for seed protein content in wild soybean. This array is being used to construct high-density genetic maps in two recombinant inbred lines and nested-association mapping populations with 30 combinations used Daepung cultivar as hub-parents, with an objective to confirm large structural variations of chromosomes using the ultra-high-density maps.
Genotyping of apple (Malus × domestica Borkh.) using MdACS1 and MdACO1 functional markers

Apple is a typical climacteric fruit, whose loss of firmness during storage is associated with internal levels of ethylene. MdACS1 (1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate synthase) and MdACO1 (1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate oxidase) genes are characterized well as functional markers for the ethylene production of ripening apple fruit. Presence of two alleles for each gene are commonly reported in cultivated apples. MdACS1-1/1, 1-1/2 and 1-2/2 generally induce high, medium, and low ethylene production, respectively. Homozygosity of MdACO1-1 resulted in low levels of ethylene production than MdACO1-1/2 and 1-2/2. It was reported that cultivars homozygous for MdACS1-2 and MdACO1-1 had superior shelf-life with lowest ethylene production. In this study, genotypes of 42 apple cultivars including Korean-developed ones at MdACS1 and MdACO1 loci were determined. Polymorphisms were detected by PCR and were separated by electrophoresis in a 2.0% agarose gel. Of PCR products of MdACS1, the fragrament of 490 bp was corresponded to the MdACS1-1 allele and 640 bp corresponded to the MdACS1-2 allele. ACO1-1 and ACO1-2 alleles had the fragment size of 525 and 587 bp, respectively. The 42 cultivars could be grouped into three classes to each gene, MdACS1-1/1, MdACS1-1/2 and MdACS1-2/2; MdACO1-1/1, MdACO1-1/2 and MdACO1-2/2.
