Background: To evaluate the efficacy of peri-urethral thrombin instillation at the surgical site after trans-urethral prostate surgery in benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), with the objective of reducing post-operative hematuria and preserving voiding function. Methods: The study was retrospectively analyzed a total of 122 patients who had trans-urethral prostate surgery between January 2019 and March 2023. Among these, 33 received thrombin instillation, while 89 did not receive it. In the test group, a mixture of 5 cc of saline solution and 5,000 IU of thrombin was instilled below the balloon, targeting the surgical site by inserting a 5 Fr feeding tube along with the Foley catheter. We compared hematologic data and uroflowmetry (UFM) between pre and post-operative periods, the duration of continuous bladder irrigation (CBI) and Foley catheter indwelling period. Results: The mean age and prostate size in the test group were 71.52±7.15 years and 54.05±24.73 g, while 71.38±8.22 years and 64.52±28.43 g in the control group. The prostate resected weight was 24.97±15.77 g and 27.58±17.00 g respectively. The hemoglobin and platelet levels were −1.05±0.81 g/dL and −42.79±35.59×103/L in the test group, and −1.08±0.97 g/dL and −27.93±40.49×103/L, in the control group. The test group showed better outcomes in CBI application time (21.31±12.15 hours) and Foley catheter indwelling time (50.97±14.63 hours) compared to the control group (34.42±22.68 hours and 70.33±33.95 hours) (P<0.001). Conclusion: After trans-urethral prostate surgery, thrombin agent instillation can prevent post-operative hematuria and facilitate quicker recovery to daily activities.
Treatment Option for High Grade Spleen Injury and Predictive Factors for Non-operative Management

Purpose: Purpose: The prognostic factors of non-operative management (NOM) in high-grade spleen injuries have been extensively studied, but factors that would help treatment decisions are lacking. We compared the characteristics of the patients to identify the factors affecting treatment choices. Methods: This is a review of 207 blunt spleen injury patients from January 2004 to December 2013. We compared clinical features and mortality between surgery and NOM, and used multivariate regression analysis to find the factor most strongly associated with prognosis. Results: Of the 207 patients, 107 had high-grade spleen injury patents (grade III or above). Of these, 42 patients underwent surgery and 65 patients underwent NOM. The mortality was 7% following surgery, 3% with NOM. The amount of packed red blood cells transfused in the first 24 hours and spleen injury grade were associated with management type, and mortality was highly associated with activated par tial thromboplas-tin time (aPTT) and spleen injury grade. Conclusions: The grade of spleen injury was associated with management and mortality, so correctly assessing the spleen injury grade is important.

Three new phenolic compounds, (E)-4'-demethyl-6-methyleucomin (1), anemarcoumarin A (2), and anemarchalconyn (3), were isolated from an ethyl acetate extract of the rhizomes of Anemarrhena asphodeloides, together with seven known compounds (4-10). The structures of the new compounds (1-3) were determined on the basis of spectroscopic data interpretation. Compound 3 exhibited a potent inhibitory effect against the differentiation of preadipocyte 3T3-L1 cells with an IC50 value of 5.3 microM.

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>Non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) includes conditions such as steatosis, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis, and ultimately hepatocellular carcinoma. Although the pathology of NAFLD is well-established, NAFLD-induced drug metabolism mediated by cytochrome P450 (CYP) in the liver has remained largely unexplored. Therefore, we investigated NAFLD-induced drug metabolism mediated by CYP by quantitative toxicoproteomics analysis. After administration of a methionine-choline deficient (MCD) diet to induce development of NAFLD, tandem mass tags-based liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry analysis was conducted to investigate the dynamics of hepatic proteins. A total of 1295 proteins were identified, of which 934 were quantified by proteomic analysis. Among these proteins, 21 proteins were up-regulated and 51 proteins were down-regulated by the MCD diet. Notably, domain annotation enrichment using InterPro indicated that proteins related to CYPs were significantly decreased. When we investigated CYP activity using <I>in vivo</I> and <I>in vitro</I> CYP cocktail assays, most CYPs were significantly decreased, whereas CYP2D was not changed after administration of the MCD diet. The progression and exacerbation of liver fibrosis are closely related to the gut microbiome. It is hypothesized that some probiotics may slow the progression of liver fibrosis. In human stool analysis [healthy group (n = 44) and cirrhosis group (n = 18)], difference in Lactobacillus genus between healthy group and cirrhosis group was observed. Based on human data, preventive and therapeutic effect of probiotics Lactobacillus lactis and L. rhamnosus was evaluated by using four mice fibrosis models. L. lactis and L. rhamnosus were supplied to 3,5-diethoxycarbonyl-1,4-dihydrocollidine or carbon tetrachloride-induced liver fibrosis C57BL/6 mouse model. Serum biochemical measurements, tissue staining, and mRNA expression in the liver were evaluated. The microbiome was analyzed in mouse cecal contents. In the mouse model, the effects of Lactobacillus in preventing and treating liver fibrosis were different for each microbe species. In case of L. lactis, all models showed preventive and therapeutic effects against liver fibrosis. In microbiome analysis in mouse models administered Lactobacillus, migration and changes in the ratio and composition of the gut microbial community were confirmed. L. lactis and L. rhamnosus showed preventive and therapeutic effects on the progression of liver fibrosis, suggesting that Lactobacillus intake may be a useful strategy for prevention and treatment.

하이라이트를 구성하는데 종전에는 사람의 수작업에 의해서 이루어졌다. 요즘은 이런점을 연구를 통해 계속 자동화시키고 있는 추세이고 많은 논문들이 나오고 있다. 이 논문은 낮은 해상도의 동영상을 향상시키기 위해 Shannon Upsampling을 수행하고 적당한 임계치를 찾아내 이진영상을 만들어 전처리를 수행하고 수평 수직 히스토그램 기법과 다중프레임조함을 혼합해 자막위치를 찾는 방법을 제안한다. 이는 기존의 에지를 사용하는 방법들에 비해 간단하고 비교적 빠른 성능을 보인다.
Development of Marker-Free Transgenic Potato Hairy Roots Using Agrobacterium rhizogenes

Agrobascterium rhizogenes KCTC2744 and A. tumefaciens LBA4404 harboring the binary vector pBIl21 were used to transform potato plants. Transformation efficiency was monitored by detecting the β-glucuronidase (GUS) transcripts and the enzyme activity. The GUS expression of potato hairy roots regenerated by A. rhizogenes-mediated transformation was found to be approximately two-fold higher than that by A. tumefaciens-mediated transformation. All hairy roots were induced by A. rhizogenes on Murashige and Skoog medium without antibiotics. The hairy roots were transformed to pBI121 and pCAMbar-by A. rhizogenes KCTC2744. The GUS expression patterns, including hairy roots regeneration and staining characteristics, were investigated. No significant differences were observed between the general transgenic hairy roots and the selectable marker-free transgenic hairy roots. The polymerase chain reaction amplification and Southern blots confirmed a stable integration of foreign genes into all of the marker-free transgenic hairy roots. This is the first genetic engineering approach to the transgenic potato hairy roots genome without the use of a selectable marker gene.
