      • A randomized, open phase IV exploratory clinical trial to evaluate the efficacy and safety of acupuncture on the outcome of induction of ovulation in women with poor ovarian response : A study protocol for a randomized controlled trial

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P><B>Introduction:</B></P><P>Women with infertility who have a poor ovarian responder (POR), characterized by a low number of retrieved oocytes after ovulation induction, often have a significantly reduced pregnancy rate after in vitro fertilization-embryo transfer (IVF-ET), due to the few transferred embryos. Acupuncture is a form of Korean Traditional Medicine. It involves the insertion of a microscopic needle at a specific point in the body, known as an acupuncture point or an acupoint. In this study, our purpose is to investigate how acupuncture affects the retrieval of mature oocytes after ovulation induction in patients with POR.</P><P><B>Methods and analysis:</B></P><P>This study will be a randomized clinical trial comprising an IVF-ET trial and an IVF-ET trial after acupuncture. Seventy patients will by enrolled and randomly assigned to either of the 2 groups. The study subjects will be required to be diagnosed as having POR. Participants will be divided into 2 groups: IVF-ET single treatment group, and acupuncture and IVF-ET combined treatment group. The study subjects will be required to participate in a 15-week trial involving 16 acupuncture treatments over a period of approximately 2 months before ovulation induction for oocyte retrieval. The primary assessment of all participants will be comparing the number of oocytes.</P><P><B>Result:</B></P><P>This treatment will be a therapeutic model for POR.</P><P><B>Discussion:</B></P><P>Our results will provide patients with POR as well as complementary and alternative medicine professionals, such as Korean medicine doctors, about the potential role of acupuncture in the treatment of POR. This will improve the quality of life in women with infertility and provide an important treatment option for patients with POR. Further studies can be performed to determine the optimal treatment for POR.</P>

        <▼1><P>A missense mutation of <I>KARRIKIN-INSENSITIVE2</I>, <I>KAI2</I><SUP><I>ply2</I></SUP>, compromises its ligand-binding activity, which subsequently impairs KAI2-signaling and multiple aspects of light-dependent responses.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A smoke-derived compound, karrikin (KAR), and an endogenous but as yet unidentified KARRIKIN INSENSITIVE2 (KAI2) ligand (KL) have been identified as chemical cues in higher plants that impact on multiple aspects of growth and development. Genetic screening of light-signaling mutants in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I> has identified a mutant designated as <I>ply2</I> (<I>pleiotropic long hypocotyl2</I>) that has pleiotropic light-response defects. In this study, we used positional cloning to identify the molecular lesion of <I>ply2</I> as a missense mutation of <I>KAI2</I>/<I>HYPOSENSITIVE TO LIGHT</I>, which causes a single amino acid substitution, Ala219Val. Physiological analysis and genetic epistasis analysis with the KL-signaling components <I>MORE AXILLARY GROWTH2</I> (<I>MAX2</I>) and <I>SUPPRESSOR OF MAX2 1</I> suggested that the pleiotropic phenotypes of the <I>ply2</I> mutant can be ascribed to a defect in KL-signaling. Molecular and biochemical analyses revealed that the mutant KAI2<SUP>ply2</SUP> protein is impaired in its ligand-binding activity. In support of this conclusion, X-ray crystallography studies suggested that the <I>KAI2</I><SUP><I>ply2</I></SUP> mutation not only results in a narrowed entrance gate for the ligand but also alters the structural flexibility of the helical lid domains. We discuss the structural implications of the Ala219 residue with regard to ligand-specific binding and signaling of KAI2, together with potential functions of KL-signaling in the context of the light-regulatory network in <I>Arabidopsis thaliana</I>.</P></▼2>

        Objective: The purpose of this report was to provide the information about activity and safety of Ssanghwa-tang by analyzing domestic papers and theses about Ssanghwa-tang. Methods: Domestic papers and theses related to Ssanghwa-tang were reviewed and analyzed. These papers were then classified by year, experimental method, and activity subject. Results: The following results were obtained in this study. 1. The study of Ssanghwa-tang started from 1981 and continued steadily 1990s and it was decreased 2000s. 2. The paper of Ssanghwatang was entire domestic paper, 20 volumes. 3. In classified by experimental method and animal of Ssanghwa-tang paper, more than a half study used rat in vivo experiment. Furthermore clinical experiments were performed about anti-fatigue effect of Ssanghwa-tang and Ssanghwatang was proved a safety herbal medicine in acute toxicity experiment. 4. Decursin, glycyrrhizin, paeoniflorin were determined in Ssanghwa-tang by using HPLC analysis. 5. As these studies were classified by subject, papers related to anti-fatigue effect were most abundant by 7 papers. Besides there were several papers related to liver funtion, anti-inflammatory, alleviation, smooth muscle relaxation effect and so on. 6. According to experimental data, it is supported that Ssanghwa-tang was safety herbal medicine and it has a several activity about anti-fatigue, anti-inflammatory, alleviation, smooth muscle relaxation. Conclusion : Many study of basic science experiments and clinical experiments were performed and reported on Ssanghwa-tang in domestic journal. Ssanghws-tang is being used in various ways associating with anti-fatigue. anti-inflammatory. alleviation and smooth muscle relaxation. furthermore Ssanghwatang was proved a safety herbal medicine in acute toxicity experiment. However, studies on randomized controlled trials of Ssanghwatang need to be completed at the clinical level.

        어혈처방 3종이 지방전구세포 분화에 미치는 영향

        Objectives : Blood stasis (BS) is related to be caused by blood circulation and stagnation which are cancer, atherosclerosis and hyperlipidemia in traditional medicine. We extracted 3 kinds of BS formula; Seogakjihwang-tang (SGT), Tonggyuhawlhyul-tang (THT), Hyulbuchukeo-tang (HCT). This study was conducted to investigate whether the 3 kinds of herbal formula extracts have inhibitory efficacy association with anti-adipogenesis. Methods : To investigate the anti-adipogenesis, we used the mouse fibroblast cell line, 3T3-L1 which differentiated into adipocytes in response to insulin, IBMX and dexamethasone (MDI). Cytotoxicity of herbal formula extracts were examined by CCK-8 kit. Intracellular lipid droplets were detected by Oil-Red-O staining. Triglyceride (TG) and leptin were measure using elisa kit. Results : The yield of water extracts was 14.62% (SGT), 21.27% (THT), 20.02% (HCT). Lipid accumulation was reduced significantly by 3 kinds of herbal formula compared to control. Especially, THT and HCT decreased lipid droplet, respectively at all concentration. The TG and leptin were also inhibited by 3 kinds of herbal formula. The IC50 of TG were 280.51 ㎍/㎖ (SGT), 52.62 ㎍/㎖ (THT), 313.99 ㎍/㎖ (HCT). The IC50 of leptin were 348.76 ㎍/㎖ (SGT), 164.02 ㎍/㎖ (THT), 257.00 ㎍/㎖ (HCT). THT was better than other herbal formula on anti-adipogenesis. Conclusion : kinds of herbal formula inhibited adipogenesis in MDI-induced 3T3-L1 adipocytes, as indicated by the significant reduction in TG and leptin concentration without cytotoxicity. Therefore, 3 kinds of herbal formula for BS might act as a therapeutic agent for preventing lipid diseases, such as obesity and atherosclerosis.

        Leaching of Arsenic in Soils Amended with Crushed Arsenopyrite Rock

        Arsenic and its compounds which is one of the most toxic elements that can be found naturally on earth in small concentrations are used in the production of pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides. Most arsenic that cannot be mobilized easily when it is immobile is also found in conjunction with sulfur in minerals such as arsenopyrite (AsFeS), realgar, orpiment and enargite. In this investigation we observed the leaching of arsenic in soils amended with several levels of gravel size of arsenopyrite collected from a road construction site. Soil and gravel size of arsenopyrite were characterized by chemical and mineralogical analyses. Results of XRF analysis of arsenopyrite indicated that the proportion of arsenate was 0.075% (wt $wt^{-1}$) while the maximum amount of arsenic in soil samples was 251.3 mg $kg^{-1}$. Cumulative amounts of effluent collected from the bottom of the soil column for different mixing rate of the gravel were gradually increased where proportion of the gravel mixed was greater than 70% whereas the effluent was stabilized to the maximum after approximately 45 pore volumes of effluent or greater were collected. The arsenic in the effluent was recovered from the soil columns in which the proportion of arsenopyrite gravel was 60% or greater. The total amount of arsenic recovered as effluent was increased with increasing proportion of gravel in a soil, indicating that the arsenic in the effluent was closely related with gravel fraction of arsenopyrite.

        Chemical transformation of iron alkoxide nanosheets to FeOOH nanoparticles for highly active and stable oxygen evolution electrocatalysts

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>We describe a facile chemical transformation method to produce small iron oxyhydroxide (FeOOH) nanoparticles for application in electrochemical oxygen evolution reaction (OER). In this work, iron alkoxide nanosheets were synthesized by heating a mixture of iron nitrate, ethylene glycol (EG), and oleylamine (OAm), which transformed to FeOOH nanoparticles with sizes less than 10nm upon alkali treatment in aqueous KOH solution. These FeOOH nanoparticles exhibited much enhanced OER activity compared with that of both commercial FeOOH powders and IrO<SUB>2</SUB> catalyst, as well as good stability in high pH conditions.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> We developed a simple chemical transformation method to produce small FeOOH nanoparticles. </LI> <LI> These FeOOH nanoparticles exhibited high electrocatalytic activity for oxygen evolution reaction. </LI> <LI> These FeOOH nanoparticles also showed excellent stability in extremely high pH conditions. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

      • Improvement of the water resistance of atactic poly(vinyl alcohol) nanowebs by a heat treatment

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>Nanoscale materials can be rationally designed to exhibit significantly changed physical, chemical, and biological properties because of the extremely small dimensions. Therefore, atactic poly(vinyl alcohol) (a‐PVA) nanowebs by an electrospinning technique have very high water solubility because of their nanoscale in comparison with microscale materials such as fibers and films. In this study, a‐PVA nanowebs were prepared via electrospinning under suitable conditions to form PVA webs with uniform nanofibers (fiber average diameter = 200 ± 50 nm), not a bead or bead‐and‐string morphology. Furthermore, to improve the water resistance of the water‐soluble a‐PVA nanowebs, the PVA nanowebs were heat‐treated at various heat‐treatment temperatures. The melting temperature of the heat‐treated PVA nanowebs shifted toward a lower temperature with an increase in the heat‐treatment temperature, and this indicated that micronetwork domains formed. Moreover, with the exception of a PVA nanoweb treated at an excessive heat‐treatment temperature, the heat‐treated PVA nanowebs showed higher crystalline and mechanical properties than a pure PVA nanoweb. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.       • 다중 프로그래밍 환경에서 프로세스 동기화에 관한 연구

        In this paper, we define processes that access database as reader processes and writer processes and then lead the process synchronization using semaphore synchronization mechanism and to reduce waiting time and execution time using queueing mechanism. Also we propose the method to minimize the process waiting time due to using synchronization mechanism. We make five modules consist of fifteen processes which {reader processes, writer processes} are {3,12}, {5,10}, {8,7}, {10,5}, {12,3}. To minimize the waiting time delay, we make two ready queues which reader process and writer process as an input respectively and compare it with in case of using single ready queue. In this study, processes are synchronized by mutual exclusion and we obtain reduces waiting time of processes and computing time of modules rather than using single ready queue.
