      • LiTa<sub>2</sub>PO<sub>8</sub>: a fast lithium-ion conductor with new framework structure

        <P>A new lithium-ion conducting oxide, LiTa2PO8, with a three-dimensional (3D) framework structure was synthesized. The complementary use of synchrotron XRD and neutron diffraction revealed that LiTa2PO8 crystallized into a monoclinic system (space group <I>C</I>2/<I>c</I>) with lattice parameters <I>a</I> ≈ 9.716 Å, <I>b</I> ≈ 11.536 Å, <I>c</I> ≈ 10.697 Å, and <I>β</I> = 90.04°. In this structure, the TaO6 octahedra and PO4 tetrahedra are connected <I>via</I> corner-sharing to form an unprecedented anionic framework, [(TaO6/2)2(PO4/2)]<SUP>−</SUP>, providing a 3D pathway for lithium-ion conduction. The sintered LiTa2PO8 pellets exhibited excellent lithium-ion conductivities: bulk conductivity of 1.6 × 10<SUP>−3</SUP> S cm<SUP>−1</SUP> and total conductivity of 2.5 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> S cm<SUP>−1</SUP> at 25 °C.</P>

      • Tandem Iminium/Copper Catalysis: Highly Enantioselective Synthesis of α,β‐Disubstituted Aldehydes

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>With the goal of synthesizing biologically and synthetically valuable products under environmentally benign and economic conditions, an asymmetric organocatalytic reaction was combined with a copper catalytic reaction. This iminium/copper catalysis allowed highly optically active α,β‐disubstituted aldehydes to be synthesized with good yields in one‐pot fashion. The β‐substitution took place through iminium‐catalyzed Michael addition of nitromethane or diethyl malonate to the α,β‐unsaturated aldehydes, followed by copper‐assisted addition of TEMPO (2,2,6,6‐tetramethylpiperidin‐1‐yloxyl) at the aldehyde α‐position. An iminium/copper‐catalyzed tandem addition product was converted into a 3,4,5‐trisubstituted piperidine for X‐ray crystallographic analysis.</P>

      • Highly Efficient Organic THz Generator Pumped at Near‐Infrared: Quinolinium Single Crystals

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>A novel highly efficient ionic electro‐optic quinolinium single crystals for THz wave applications is reported. Acentric quinolinium derivatives, HMQ‐T (2‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methoxystyryl)‐1‐methylquinolinium 4‐methylbenzenesulfonate) and HMQ‐MBS (2‐(4‐hydroxy‐3‐methoxystyryl)‐1‐methylquinolinium 4‐methoxybenzenesulfonate) exhibit high order parameters cos<SUP>3</SUP><I>θ</I><SUB>p</SUB> = 0.92 and cos<SUP>3</SUP><I>θ</I><SUB>p</SUB> = 1.0, respectively, as well as a large macroscopic optical nonlinearity, which is in the range of the benchmark stilbazolium DAST (<I>N,N</I>‐dimethylamino‐<I>N</I>’‐methylstilbazolium 4‐methylbenzenesulfonate) and phenolic polyene OH1 (2‐(3‐(4‐hydroxystyryl)‐5,5‐dimethylcyclohex‐2‐enylidene)malononitrile) crystals. As‐grown unpolished bulk HMQ‐T crystals with a side length of about 6 mm and thickness of 0.56 mm exhibit 3.1 times higher THz generation efficiency than 0.37 mm thick OH1 crystals and about 8.4 times higher than 1 mm thick inorganic standard ZnTe crystals at the near‐infrared fundamental wavelength of 836 nm. Therefore, HMQ crystals with high order parameter obviously have a very high potential for high power THz‐wave generation and its applications.</P>

      • Crystal Engineering of Acentric Styryl Quinolinium Crystals with Strongly Hydrogen-Bonded Phenolic Anions

        <P>We report on new acentric styryl quinolinium crystals with phenolic sulfonate counteranions and investigate their supramolecular interactions that affect their quadratic nonlinear optical properties. The phenolic group acting as an electron-donor as well as hydrogen-bond donor site is located at one end of the anion, while the sulfonate group acting as an electron-acceptor as well as hydrogen-bond acceptor site is located at the opposite end of the anion. New styryl quinolinium crystals with 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate and 6-hydroxynaphthalene-2-sulfonate counteranions exhibit a large macroscopic optical nonlinearity with very efficient second harmonic generation (SHG) efficiency. In styryl quinolinium 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate crystals, the styryl quinolinium cation chromophores exhibit an acentric ordering with a high order parameter close to 1.0, which is optimal for electro-optic applications or THz-wave generation. The 4-hydroxybenzenesulfonate counteranions form strong head-to-tail hydrogen bonds, and they are also packed in acentric layers. The direction of the polar axes in cation and anion layers is practically identical. Therefore, the introducing phenolic group acting as an electron-donor as well as hydrogen-bond donor to the sulfonate counteranion is a potential technique for crystal engineering to tailor molecular ordering as well as the physical properties of salt-type quinolinium derivatives.</P><P>New acentric styryl quinolinium crystals with strongly hydrogen-bonded phenolic sulfonate counteranions are investigated to understand their influence on supramolecular interactions and quadratic nonlinear optical properties.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/cgdefu/2013/cgdefu.2013.13.issue-11/cg401261z/production/images/medium/cg-2013-01261z_0011.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/cg401261z'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

        선체구조용 EH36 TMCP 후판의 FCAW 및 EGW 조합 용접부 기계적 성질에 미치는 개선조건의 영향

        Characterization of microstructures and mechanical properties of 83mm thickness EH36-TM welds produced by the combined flux cored arc (FCA) and electro gas (EG) welding processes has been studied with the two different groove conditions, single-V (SV) and double-V (DV) bevels. The welding consumables used for FCA and EG welding processes were ASME/AWS A5.29 (E81T1-K2) and A5.26 (EG72T), respectively. Experimental results showed that all the mechanical properties of welds such as tensile property, CVN toughness and Vickers hardness met IACS requirements. The tensile strength of EG welded plates were reduced by approximately 4% (DV: 3.8%, SV: 4.2%) compared to the base metal. The hardness value of SV-beveled weld metal was slightly lower than that of DV-beveled one. There were no significant differences as per welding groove conditions except for the weld metal. In addition, at the fusion line, the toughness of SV condition was 20J lower and the weld metal was 40J lower than DV condition, respectively. On the basis of microstructural analysis, grain boundary ferrite (GBF) structures for SV condition were 2 times higher volume fraction than for DV condition and their packet sizes were coarsened to almost double. It was thus suggested that the GBF volume fractions and packet sizes in the weld metal of EH36-TM steel plates are the most important factors affecting the mechanical properties of the combined FCA and EG welded joint. Nevertheless, all the results of welds with both DV and SV conditions were found to be excellent.

        오늘날 디지털 정보가 기하급수적으로 늘어나고 반면 급속한 폐기와 망실이 일어나고 있다. 특히 웹 자원은 아직 수집, 보존, 활용에 대한 방안이 없어서 일정 기간의 서비스가 끝나면 사라져 버리는 문제점이 있다. 따라서 웹 자원을 수집하고 보존하기위한 웹 아카이빙 시스템이 요구되고 있다. 이러한 웹 자원들을 주기적으로 수집하여 웹 자원을 항구적인 보존과 접근을 위한 웹 아카이빙 개발이 필요하게 되었다. 따라서 본 연구에서는 웹 자원의 아카이빙 수집, 보존, 항구 적인 접근을 위한 웹 아카이빙 시스템을 개발하였다.

      • Crystal structure and magnetic properties of dicarboxylate-bridged Iinear chain Mn(Ⅱ) complexes

        Two managanese(Ⅱ) complexes, [Mn(mtm)(CH_3OH)_2(H_2O)]_n (1) and [Mn_2(mtm)_2(2,2'-bipy)_2]_n (2) bipy=bipyridine, mtm=[bis(methylthio)methylene]malonate) were synthesized and characterized by X-ray crystallography. Structure of 1 consists of octahedral manganese(Ⅱ) species which are extended by carboxylate bridges in syn-anti fashion along the c-axis. Chains of 1 are associated by hydrogen bonding among coordinating water and methanol molecules and carboxylate oxygen atoms, forming two-dimensional structures. The crystallographic asymmetric unit of 2 comprises two [Mn(2,2'-bipy)mtm)] units in which Mn(Ⅱ) atoms are bridged by μ_2-oxygens from carbosylate to form Mn_2O_2 rhombus. The dimeric units are linked doubly by second carboxylates in syn-anti fashion, resulting in a chain structure. The antiferromagnetic coupling of Mn(μ) ions in 1 (-0.2cm^-1) and 2(- 1.57 cm^-1) was determined from variable-temperature magnetic susceptibility data in the temperature range of 2-300 K.

      • Revegetation of Rock Slopes with Different Substrates in an Abandoned Quarry in Jinju, Korea

        <P>The purpose of this research was to investigate the use of drilled slanted holes filled with different substrates in the revegetation of rock slopes. Slanted holes were drilled on rock slopes using pneumatic drillers in an abandoned limestone quarry area. These holes were filled with twelve different substrates, treated with Trichoderma harzianum. One climbing plant of Ivy (Hedera rhombea), a native woody plant (Lespedeza cyrtobotrya), three native herbaceous plants (Dianthus barbatus, Siberian chrysanthemum and Aster koraiensis) and one exotic grass plant (Festuca arundinacea) were planted in each of the soils. Six months after planting, only Ivy, Festuca arundinacea, Lespedeza cyrtobotrya and Dianthus barbatus were still observed growing on the soils, while the other plant species had already died in all the 12 soil treatments. Leaf mold soil + 50% Trichoderma harzianum provide the best conditions for revegetation of Festuca arundinacea, as this plant had its highest mean height, high survival rate, with impressive growth rate on this soil. Lespedeza cyrtobotrya also had its most favorable growth on Leaf mold soil + 50% T. harzianum. Mixed soil + 100% T. harzianum provide the best conditions for revegetation of Ivy. Leaf mold soil + 100% T. harzianum provide the best condition for revegetation of Dianthus barbatus as it had its highest mean height, highest growth rate and high survival rate on this soil. Siberian chrysanthemum and Aster koraiensis had the worse results as all of the plants died within a short period of time after planting. Ivy had the highest mean height, followed by Festuca arundinacea. The planted Ivy and Festuca arundinacea now form the vegetation of the research site which together with the substrate is now providing habitat to some wildlife like some species of centipedes, earthworms, insects and wild plants. Less than one year after planting, F. arundinacea already produced flowers and seeds which would further increase the plant population after dispersal and germination. Drilling slanted holes on rock slopes is therefore a feasible method to be used for revegetation and restoration of degraded quarries.The revegetation of steep rock slopes of quarries is a very challenging activity. However, the method of drilling slanted holes on rock slopes is a feasible method to be used for restoration of degraded quarries. These holes could serve in soil deposition and water retention that will further enhance plant growth.Methods of improving seed germination as well as enhancing growth of plants are also imperative in revegetation success of such degraded landscapes. Different percentage mixtures of T. harzianum in different soils could enhance plant growth depending on the target plant species. Different substrates could thus be used in such revegetation process depending on the target plant species.Revegetation would provide habitat and improve landscape beauty and stability, thus it is important for successful restoration of rock slopes </P>

        Insertion of Alkali Metals into Open Framework, TaPS6 by Using Alkali Metal Halide Fluxes: Single Crystal Structures of K0.18TaPS6, K0.28TaPS6, and Rb0.09TaPS6

        Three new quaternary tantalum thiophosphates, K0.18TaPS6, K0.28TaPS6, and Rb0.09TaPS6 have been synthesized by using reactive alkali metal halide fluxes and structurally characterized by single crystal X-ray diffraction techniques. The crystal structures of K0.18TaPS6, K0.28TaPS6, and Rb0.09TaPS6 contain 3-dimensional open framework anions, [TaPS6]x (x = 0.09, 0.18, 0.28) with the empty channel which disordered alkali metal cations, K+ and Rb+ are located in. Crystal data: K0.18TaPS6, tetragonal, space group I41/acd (no. 142), a=15.874(3) Å, c=13.146(4) Å, V=3312.7(12) Å3, K, Z=16, R1=0.0545.
