Role of IL-23 and Th17 Cells in Airway Inflammation in Asthma

Asthma is characterized by chronic airway inflammation with intense eosinophil and lymphocyte infiltration, mucus hyperproduction,and airway hyperresponsiveness. Accumulating evidence indicates that antigen-specific Th2 cells and their cytokines such as IL-4, IL-5, and IL-13 orchestrate these pathognomonic features of asthma. In addition, we and others have recently shown that IL-17-producing CD4+ T cells (Th17 cells) and IL-23, an IL-12-related cytokine that is essential for survival and functional maturation of Th17 cells,are involved in antigen-induced airway inflammation. In this review, our current understanding of the roles of IL-23 and Th17 cells in the pathogenesis of allergic airway inflammation will be summarized.

Fuzzy Logic and Causal Analysis in Biomedical Sensing System

This article proposes the combination of fuzzy logic and causal analysis regarding biomedical sensing. As one of the applications, a heart rate monitoring system is introduced. It monitors heart rate of human body during sleep or lying on the bed. The system consists of an air pressure sensor and data analysis computation part. Fuzzy logic is employed as a role of filtering heart beat signals from an air pressure sensor data which superimposes vibration signals of heart beat, body movement, and respiration. Causal analysis plays a role of making transparent of calculation flow in heart rate from the extracted heat beat signals. The experiments were conducted to prove the performance of the proposed method. Experimental results were very high correlation coefficient of around 0.85.
A Nationwide Study on Optical Analysis for Expecting HEOs to Support Ambulances

This paper deals with actual optical data from rural as well as urban areas in a nationwide study captured with Fisheye cameras. Simultaneously data was collected (of the receiving power density) from the mobile communications satellite N-STAR. The visibility of the satellite is easily determined by checking the value of the pixels in the binarized fisheye image of its position. The process of determining the visible satellite is automatically performed. Based on the analyses of the field data measured in Japan, we are expecting HEOs (Highly inclined Elliptical Orbiters) that would reduce blockage in the extreme northern region of Wakkanai City well as in the most crowded urban area, in Tokyo Ginza. In case of HEOs operation, the elevation angle will improve from 37 with N-STAR GEO to 75 degrees. HEOs could replace 5G/Ka-band or support in rural areas where broadband circuit is not available. We are proposing combination operations with HEOs and 5G/Ka-band to solve blockage problems, because HEOs can keep line-of-sight propagation with high elevation angle for long duration. In such operations, the communications profile on the vehicle based on actual optical data will be very useful to predict blockages and to select/switch a suitable circuit.
Developing a Scanner for Assessing Foliage Moisture

We intended to confirm that microwave attenuation by tree leaves is strongly linked to water content in leaves. We sampled natural broadleaves, including Japanese cinnamon, and investigated their effects on the microwave (3 to 20 GHz) frequency characteristics using a network analyzer. Experiments determined that microwave attenuation by foliage increases as a linear function of frequency per unit weight (gram). As the frequency increases, the spatial resolution increases, but the phase difference (imaginary component) increases. So we solved the dispersion of phase difference by sweeping the frequency and taking the intermediate value. Based on these experimental results, we developed a microwave scanner on 10Ghz to describe foliage moisture as a image and to enable assessments of leaf condition. Photosynthesis is the process whereby plants synthesize oxygen and sugars from carbon dioxide and water, thereby converting light energy into chemical energy. Since water is a major parameter of photosynthesis, the quantity of water accumulated inside a leaf reflects leaf health. The equipment described here and related microwave technologies will help assess the capacity of leaves to absorb atmospheric carbon dioxide.
정적 및 동적 하중에서 글라스 아이오노머의 기계적 성질

목적 수복물 아래의 기저재 및 코아축성재로 사용하는 여러 유형의 글라스 아이오노머에 정적 및 순환 부하조건을 가할 때의 기계적 성질을 평가하였다. 방법 2종의 글라스 아이오노머와 2종의 금속-강화형 글라스 아이오노머의 압축강도와 3점휨강도를 혼합 시작 1일 후 측정하였다. 휨 피로저항을 3점 굴곡기계를 상요하여 650~1,050g 범위의 하중에서 측정하였고 시편의 파절면을 주사전자현미경으로 관찰하였다. 결과 모든 글라스 아이오노머는 유사한 압축 및 휨강도를 보였다. Cox's proportional hazard model로 분석한 결과 혼합형 금속-강화형 글라스 아이오노머의 피로저항성은 가장 높은 반면 수경성 글라스 아이오노머의 피로저항성은 가장 낮았다 (p<0.05). 의미 글라스 아이오노머에 금속입자를 함입할 때 정적 기계적 성질은 향상하지 않았다. 그러나 혼합형 금속-강화형 글라스 아이오노머 처럼 금속입잘르 함입하였을 때 피로저항성은 증가하였다.
Using 3D maps as mobile communication profiles and for ambulatory applications

A communication profile is a system that acquires information from communications links to an ambulance or other vehicle moving on a road and compiles a database based on this information. This system then predicts the communication links that will be available at a given location. For line-of-sight communication, optical analysis allows approximation if the frequency is sufficiently high. For non-line-of-sight communication, previously obtained electric power data can be used as reference information for approximations in certain cases when combined with predicted values calculated based on a 3D map. 3D maps are more effective than 2D maps for landing emergency medical helicopters on public roadways in the event of a disaster. Using advanced imaging technologies, we have produced a prototype of a high-precision 3D map of Yokohama Yamashita Park and vicinity and assessed its effectiveness. This paper discusses this prototype 3D map and its applications.
