South-Coast Cyclone in Japan During El Niño-Caused Warm Winters

La Niña conditions during boreal winter sometimes brings excessive snowfall in Japan, especially on the East Sea/Sea of Japan coastal and mountain areas through intensified northwesterly cold winds caused by La-Niña related atmospheric teleconnection. Meanwhile, snowfall events also increase in the Pacific coast area of Japan during the El Niño state due to extratropical cyclones passing along the south coast of Japan (hereafter referred to as South-coast cyclone). In the present study, we investigated year-to-year snowfall/ rainfall variations based on meteorological station data and cyclone tracks identified by using the Japanese 55-year Reanalysis. The result clearly indicates increase of the South-coast cyclone during El Niño-developing winters, which is consistent with excessive snowfall in the northern part of the Pacific coast. Strong subtropical jet hampers cyclogenesis due to less vertical interaction through the trapping of upper-level eddies. During El Niño-developing winters, the subtropical jet is weakened over East Asia, indicating dynamic linkage to increased cyclone frequency. In addition to this, both the deepening of the upper-tropospheric trough over East Asia and anomalous low-tropospheric northwest anticyclones extending from the Philippines toward Japan are also consistent with the enhancement of cyclogenesis over the East China Sea as well as warm winter in Japan.

本稿は源氏物語, 紫式部集に見られる朝顔の花の贈答歌が現代語として正しく訳出されていないのではないかという疑問点から出発する。朝顔の花は夜明け前には咲かず、昼のうちにしぼむ、時間の経過とともに状態が移ろう花である。朝顔の巻の歌の贈答では、まずその花をなぜ光源氏が姫君に贈ろうと決めたのかを考察し、光源氏がかつての恋を思い出してくださいという意味を込めたと結論づける。また紫式部集の歌に関しては、あけぐれの時間に朝顔がまだ咲かないことから、女性に対し早く心を開いてほしいとする男性の側の恋心の表出ととる。さらには紫式部集で伝えられる贈答歌が源氏物語で光源氏が朝顔の姫君に最初に朝顔の花を贈ったときの状況をそのまま残すものである可能性についても言及する。

本稿の目的は、古今和歌集と伊勢物語に共通する歌「わがうへに露ぞ置くなる天の河門渡る舟の櫂のしづくか」という歌の本来の姿を探ることにある。上記の歌は「天の河」「舟」「櫂のしづく」という、七夕を指し示す単語が多く用いられながら、「わがうへに露ぞ置くなる」の意味の分かりにくさからか古今和歌集では七夕の歌とされず「雑歌」に分類されている。 また、伊勢物語においても同様で、この歌は突然人事不省に陥った男が顔に水をかけられることで蘇生し、「わがうへに」と朗詠する話に採られている。この歌は古今和歌集でも伊勢物語でも七夕とは一切関係のない歌として扱われているのだ。 本稿では、この歌が詠まれた時代の歌集、萬葉集と古今和歌集に収録される「露」「置く」を含む歌全ての類型を調査することで、「わがうへに」の「うへ(上)」の本来の形が「そて(袖)」であり、この歌が本来「我が袖に露ぞ置くなる天の河門渡る舟の櫂のしづくか」と七夕の夜の恋の涙を詠んだものであることを推定し、結論とする。
Fast Reprojection using Tree-Structured Filter Bank from Cone Beam Projections

This paper proposes a fast reprojection method using Tree-Structured Filter Bank from cone beam projection data and shows that we can calculate 4.6 times faster than the conventional interpolation method.
Incommensurate Spin Spiral of the Geometrically-frustrated Antiferromagnet CdCr2O4

CdCr2O4 is a cubic spinel with geometrically-frustrated antiferromagnetic interactions betweenCr3+ ions. We investigated the structural and magnetic phase transitions in powder samples byusing magnetization and neutron diffraction measurements. An antiferromagnetic phase transitionwas observed at TN = 8.1 K, below which the crystallographic unit cell was tetragonal (c < a = b). Its incommensurate antiferromagnetic ordering below TN resembles dimerized spin chains in theab planes with the propagation vector k = (0, 0.088, 1). We argue that the Dzyaloshinskii-Moriyainteraction and the magnetic frustration play important roles in establishing the observed magneticordering.
Study of Winding Method to Reduce Stray Loss and Stator Core Vibration of Synchronous Machine

The fractional slot windings are widely used in rotating machine in order to increase the flexibility of design and improve the voltage waveform. However, the MMF wave of fractional-slot windings are found to contain unique harmonic component, which are designated as even order space flux harmonics, fractional number flux harmonics, or both. They may cause stray loss and stator core vibration. This paper proposes new winding methods "novel interspersed windings" and "expanded group windings" to reduce these harmonics. The advantages of two proposed windings are verified by using numerical analysis and measurement test of winding model.
