QoS and SLA Aware Web Service Composition in Cloud Environment

( Dandan Wang ),( Hao Ding ),( Yang Yang ),( Zhenqiang Mi ),( Li Liu ),( Zenggang Xiong ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2016 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.10 No.12

As a service-oriented paradigm, web service composition has obtained great attention from both academia and industry, especially in the area of cloud service. Nowadays more and more web services providing the same function but different in QoS are available in cloud, so an important mission of service composition strategy is to select the optimal composition solution according to QoS. Furthermore, the selected composition solution should satisfy the service level agreement (SLA) which defines users` request for the performance of composite service, such as price and response time. A composite service is feasible only if its QoS satisfies user`s request. In order to obtain composite service with the optimal QoS and avoid SLA violations simultaneously, in this paper we first propose a QoS evaluation method which takes the SLA satisfaction into account. Then we design a service selection algorithm based on our QoS evaluation method. At last, we put forward a parallel running strategy for the proposed selection algorithm. The simulation results show that our approach outperforms existing approaches in terms of solutions` optimality and feasibility. Through our running strategy, the computation time can be reduced to a large extent.

QoS-Based and Network-Aware Web Service Composition across Cloud Datacenters

( Dandan Wang ),( Yang Yang ),( Zhenqiang Mi ) 한국인터넷정보학회 2015 KSII Transactions on Internet and Information Syst Vol.9 No.3

With the development of cloud computing, more and more Web services are deployed on geo-distributed datacenters and are offered to cloud users all over the world. Through service composition technologies, these independent fine-grain services can be integrated to value-added coarse-grain services. During the composition, a number of Web services may provide the same function but differ in performance. In addition, the distribution of cloud datacenters presents a geographically dispersive manner, which elevates the impact of the network on the QoS of composite services. So it is important to select an optimal composition path in terms of QoS when many functionally equivalent services are available. To achieve this objective, we first present a graph model that takes both QoS of Web services and QoS of network into consideration. Then, a novel approach aiming at selecting the optimal composition path that fulfills the user`s end-to-end QoS requirements is provided. We evaluate our approach through simulation and compare our method with existing solutions. Results show that our approach significantly outperforms existing solutions in terms of optimality and scalability.

      • A quantitative study of the structure–activity relationship in hierarchical zeolites using liquid‐phase reactions

        Xu, Dandan,Abdelrahman, Omar,Ahn, Sang Hyun,Guefrachi, Yasmine,Kuznetsov, Anatoliy,Ren, Limin,Hwang, Sonjong,Khaleel, Maryam,Al Hassan, Saeed,Liu, Dongxia,Hong, Suk Bong,Dauenhauer, Paul,Tsapatsis, Mi John Wiley Sons, Inc. 2019 AIChE journal Vol.65 No.3

<P>Micro/meso/macroporous (hierarchical) zeolites show remarkable catalytic performance for reactions involving bulky reactants. However, quantitative assessment of the microstructural characteristics contributing to the observed performance remains elusive. Here, structure–activity relationships are established for a set of micro/mesoporous self‐pillared pentasil (SPP) zeolites using two parallel liquid‐phase reactions (benzyl alcohol alkylation and self‐etherification) based on analysis of mass transport and reaction kinetics. A reaction–diffusion mathematical model is developed that quantitatively assigns the catalytic contributions of the external surface and micropores of SPP zeolites for these reactions. In addition, the effect of the zeolite external surface structure on the corresponding catalytic activity is quantitatively assessed by comparing SPP zeolites (with MFI structure) with MCM‐22 (with MWW structure). This work demonstrates that reaction–diffusion modeling allows quantitative description of the catalytic performance of hierarchical zeolites and provides a model reaction to assess nm‐sized characteristic diffusion lengths in MFI. © 2018 American Institute of Chemical Engineers <I>AIChE J</I>, 65: 1067–1075, 2019</P>

Expression profile and estrogenic regulation of Amh during gonadal sex differentiation in northern snakehead (Channa argus)

        Qing Luo,Mi Ou,Jian Zhao,Haiyang Liu,Dandan Gao,Yanduo Wu,Lanlan Zhang,Kunci Chen 한국유전학회 2020 Genes & Genomics Vol.42 No.7

Background Anti-Müllerian hormone (Amh) plays a critical role in both early sex determination and later gonad development in vertebrate species. However, it remains unknown in northern snakehead (Channa argus), which is economically important freshwater fish with sexual dimorphism. Objective This study aimed to identify the expression profiles and estrogenic regulation of CaAmh during gonadal sex differentiation in C. argus. Methods The cDNA and genomic DNA sequences of CaAmh were identified by PCR and RACE techniques. The expression patterns of CaAmh were detected by qRT-PCR during the gonadal sex differentiation and after 17α-ethinyloestradiol (EE2) treatments. Results CaAmh is composed of seven exons and six introns, and its full-length cDNA is 2413 bp in length, with 1635 bp open reading frame (ORF) that encodes a 544 amino acid protein. Tissues expression patterns revealed that CaAmh display the highest expression in testis of XY males (40.36 folds, p < 0.01). The spatio-temporal expression patterns during gonadal sex differentiation indicated that CaAmh expression differed between XX females and XY males at 30 day after hatching (dah), and reached to the peak (36.03 folds, p < 0.01) at 90 dah in XY gonads. However, CaAmh expression in XX gonads remained low throughout the sampling period. Furthermore, CaAmh expression in the gonads (ovaries) of the sex-reversed XY fish (XY-F) by the administration of estrogen EE2 was downregulated to low level, similar to that in ovaries of normal XX females (XX-F). Conclusions These results show that Amh plays a critical role in testicular differentiation of C. argus and it is apparently modulated by estrogens in this species.

Poly-γ-glutamic acid productivity of Bacillus subtilis BsE1 has positive function in motility and biocontrol against Fusarium graminearum

        Luyao Wang,Ning Wang,Dandan Mi,Yuming Luo,Jianhua Guo 한국미생물학회 2017 The journal of microbiology Vol.55 No.7

In this study, we investigate the relationship between γ-PGA productivity and biocontrol capacity of Bacillus subtilis BsE1; one bacterial isolate displayed 62.14% biocontrol efficacy against Fusarium root rot. The γ-PGA yield assay, motility assay, wheat root colonization assay, and biological control assay were analysed in different γ-PGA yield mutants of BsE1. The pgsB (PGA-synthase-CapB gene) deleted mutant of BsE1 reduced γ-PGA yield and exhibited apparent decline of in vitro motile ability. Deletion of pgsB impaired colonizing capacity of BsE1 on wheat root in 30 days, also lowered biocontrol efficacies from 62.08% (wild type BsE1) to 14.22% in greenhouse experiment against Fusarium root rot. The knockout of pgdS and ggt (genes relate to two γ-PGA degrading enzymes) on BsE1, leads to a considerable improvement in polymer yield and biocontrol efficacy, which attains higher level compared with wild type BsE1. Compared with ΔpgsB mutant, defense genes related to reactive oxygen species (ROS) and phytoalexin expressed changes by notable levels on wheat roots treated with BsE1, demonstrating the functional role γ-PGA plays in biocontrol against Fusarium root rot. γ-PGA is not only important to the motile and plant root colonization ability of BsE1, but also essential to the biological control performed by BsE1 against Fusarium root rot. Our goal in this study is to reveals a new perspective of BCAs screening on bacterial isolates, without good performance during pre-assays of antagonism ability.

      • Ginseng-berry-mediated gold and silver nanoparticle synthesis and evaluation of their in vitro antioxidant, antimicrobial, and cytotoxicity effects on human dermal fibroblast and murine melanoma skin cell lines

        Jimé,nez Pé,rez, Zuly Elizabeth,Mathiyalagan, Ramya,Markus, Josua,Kim, Yeon-Ju,Kang, Hyun Mi,Abbai, Ragavendran,Seo, Kwang Hoon,Wang, Dandan,Soshnikova, Veronika,Yang, Deok Chun DOVE MEDICAL PRESS 2017 INTERNATIONAL JOURNAL OF NANOMEDICINE Vol.12 No.-

<P>There has been a growing interest in the design of environmentally affable and biocompatible nanoparticles among scientists to find novel and safe biomaterials. <I>Panax ginseng</I> Meyer berries have unique phytochemical profile and exhibit beneficial pharmacological activities such as antihyperglycemic, antiobesity, antiaging, and antioxidant properties. A comprehensive study of the biologically active compounds in ginseng berry extract (GBE) and the ability of ginseng berry (GB) as novel material for the biosynthesis of gold nanoparticles (GBAuNPs) and silver nanoparticles (GBAgNPs) was conducted. In addition, the effects of GBAuNPs and GBAgNPs on skin cell lines for further potential biological applications are highlighted. GBAuNPs and GBAgNPs were synthesized using aqueous GBE as a reducing and capping agent. The synthesized nanoparticles were characterized for their size, morphology, and crystallinity. The nanoparticles were evaluated for antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, antibacterial, and cytotoxicity activities and for morphological changes in human dermal fibroblast and murine melanoma skin cell lines. The phytochemicals contained in GBE effectively reduced and capped gold and silver ions to form GBAuNPs and GBAgNPs. The optimal synthesis conditions (ie, temperature and v/v % of GBE) and kinetics were investigated. Polysaccharides and phenolic compounds present in GBE were suggested to be responsible for stabilization and functionalization of nanoparticles. GBAuNPs and GBAgNPs showed increased scavenging activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl free radicals compared to GBE. GBAuNPs and GBAgNPs effectively inhibited mushroom tyrosinase, while GBAgNPs showed antibacterial activity against <I>Escherichia coli</I> and <I>Staphylococcus aureus</I>. In addition, GBAuNPs were nontoxic to human dermal fibroblast and murine melanoma cell lines, and GBAgNPs showed cytotoxic effect on murine melanoma cell lines. The current results evidently suggest that GBAgNPs can act as potential agents for antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and antibacterial activities. In addition, GBAuNPs can be further developed into mediators in drug delivery and as antioxidant, anti-tyrosinase, and protective skin agents in cosmetic products. Consequently, the study showed the advantages of using nanotechnology and green chemistry to enhance the natural properties of GBs.</P>

Effect of coadministration of enriched Korean Red Ginseng (Panax ginseng) and American ginseng (Panax quinquefolius L) on cardiometabolic outcomes in type-2 diabetes: A randomized controlled trial

        Elena Jovanovski,Lea Smircic-Duvnjak,Allison Komishon,Fei (Rodney) Au-Yeung,John L. Sievenpiper,Andreea Zurbau,Alexandra L. Jenkins,Mi-Kyung Sung,Robert Josse,Dandan Li,Vladimir Vuksan 고려인삼학회 2021 Journal of Ginseng Research Vol.45 No.5

        Background: Diabetes mellitus and hypertension often occur together, amplifying cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk and emphasizing the need for a multitargeted treatment approach. American ginseng (AG) and Korean Red Ginseng (KRG) species could improve glycemic control via complementary mechanisms. Additionally, a KRG-inherent component, ginsenoside Rg3, may moderate blood pressure (BP). Our objective was to investigate the therapeutic potential of coadministration of Rg3-enriched Korean Red Ginseng (Rg3-KRG) and AG, added to standard of care therapy, in the management of hypertension and cardiometabolic risk factors in type-2 diabetes. Methods: Within a randomized controlled, parallel design of 80 participants with type-2 diabetes (HbA1c: 6.5e8%) and hypertension (systolic BP: 140e160 mmHg or treated), supplementation with either 2.25 g/day of combined Rg3-KRG þ AG or wheat-bran control was assessed over a 12-wk intervention period. The primary endpoint was ambulatory 24-h systolic BP. Additional endpoints included further hemodynamic assessment, glycemic control, plasma lipids and safety monitoring. Results: Combined ginseng intervention generated a mean ± SE decrease in primary endpoint of 24-h systolic BP (-3.98 ± 2.0 mmHg, p = 0.04). Additionally, there was a greater reduction in HbA1c (-0.35 ± 0.1% [e3.8 ± 1.1 mmol/mol], p = 0.02), and change in blood lipids: total cholesterol (-0.50 ± 0.2 mmol/l, p = 0.01), non-HDL-C (-0.54 ± 0.2 mmol/l, p = 0.01), triglycerides (-0.40 ± 0.2 mmol/l, p = 0.02) and LDL-C (-0.35 ± 0.2 mmol/l, p = 0.06) at 12 wks, relative to control. No adverse safety outcomes were observed. Conclusion: Coadministration of Rg3-KRG þ AG is an effective addon for improving BP along with attaining favorable cardiometabolic outcomes in individuals with type 2 diabetes. Ginseng derivatives may offer clinical utility when included in the polypharmacy and lifestyle treatment of diabetes. Clinical trial registration: Clinicaltrials.gov identifier, NCT01578837;
