        The relevant restrictions for the separability test at the mean value were employed as following: γ??(β? + α?) - γ??(β? + α?) + (α?β? - α?β?)α? = 0 The null hypothesis that meat commodities are separable with non-meat food was not restricted at a 5% level of significance. This implies that the separability assumption could be strongly plausible in the empirical work. Own-price elasticities were negative. The fact implies meats concerned are normal goods as expected. The expenditure elasticities are saying that non-meat food is more elastic that meats. The compensated cross price elasticities shows some strong competitiveness in expenditures and/or strong substitutes between beef and pork in recent years. Also the rest of meats are net substitutes in the analysis period.

      • 정부개혁의 비판적 성찰과 전략적 대안

        세계 각국의 정부 개혁 추세에 맞추어 한국 정부도 정부 개혁을 수행하고 있지만 그 성과에 대한 정확한 평가에 대해서는 의견이 일치하지 않고 있다. 무엇보다도 정부 개혁을 만병통치약으로 받아들이는 태도를 경계하여야 하며, 성과에 대한 성급한 판단 이전에 정부개혁과 관련한 다양한 문제점들을 잘 살펴보는 일이 선행될 필요가 있다. 이 연구에서는 김대중 정부의 개혁 정책-정부구조조정과 인사개혁의 두 차원-의 문제점에 관하여 비판적인 성찰을 하고, 한국의 정부개혁의 위상을 파악하고자 하였다. 비록 엄밀한 실증적인 분석을 하지는 못하였으나 질적인 담론을 통하여 김대중 정부의 개혁의 문제점 및 과제를 제시하고자 하였다. 정부 구조 조정 분야에서는 1) 개혁의 방향성 및 일관성 문제, 2) 조직 분권화 및 민주화 문제, 3) 정책 조정 문제, 4) 권한의 하부 위임 문제, 5) 인력 감축 관리 문제, 6) 공무원 전문성 제고 문제, 7) 책임운영기관제도의 문제, 8) 개혁의 시기와 방법 문제 등이 지적되었으며, 인사개혁(개방형임용제도) 분야에서는 1) 민간과 공직간의 신뢰관계 축적 미흡, 2) 공직과 민간의 이익과 목표간의 부합도가 낮은 상황에서 개방형 직위제가 적용, 3) 공직과 민간간의 협력 훈련 경험 부족, 4) 개방형직위제의 선정 작업이 공직 내부에서의 토의를 배제한 채 외부의 경영진단기관의 판단에 따라 하향적으로 적용되었다는 문제가 지적되었다. 결론적으로 이 연구는 한국의 정부 개혁은 빈약한 정부 개혁 논리 속에서 내부적인 합의와 신뢰관계를 구축하지 못한 채 제대로 된 위상을 정립하지 못하고 있기 때문에 향후 정부 개혁이 많은 시행 착오를 겪을 것으로 예상하였다.

        The Korean Speech Act of Refusals:Sociopragmatic Analysis

The Korean Speech Act of Refusals: Sociopragmatic Analysis. 사회언어학, 11(1). 외국어 습득에서의 화용론의 역할에 관한 관심이 높아지면서 중간 언어 화용론(jnterlanguage pragmatics)에 관한 연구가 최근 들어 많이 이루어지고 있다. 그러나 영어를 모국어로 하는 KFL 학습자를 대상으로 한 중간 언어 화용론 연구는 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 이에 본고에서는 보다 활발한 한국어 중간 언어 화용론 연구를 위해 먼저 기존의 중간 언어적 화용론 자료 수집 방법론(data-gathering methodology)에 대해 논의하고 한국어를 이용한 written discourse completion task(DCT)를 Brown and Levinson(1987)의 두개의 사회적 변수인 power와 distance에 근거해서 개발하였다. 그 DCT를 이요해서 30명의 한국 대학생과 30명의 영어를 모국어로 하는 한국어 학습자의 한국어 거부 발화 행위를 비교 조사 분석 해 보았다. 그리고 모국어 전의 영향(L1 transfer effect)을 분석하기 위해 30명의 미국 대학생의 영어 거부 발화 행위를 조사하여 한국어 학습자의 결과와도 비교했다. 분석 결과로는, 먼저 12 종류의 거부의 주된 행위 전략(refusal head acts)과, 5종류의 거부 지지 행위 전략(refusal supportive move)을 사용하고 있음을 알아냈으며, 학습자의 한국어 거부 발호 행위에서 나타난 모국어 전이의 영향에 대해 논의했다. 그리고, 사회적 변수가 발호 행위에 미치는 영향을 Sohn(1986)의 수직론(hierarchicalism)과 간접론(indirectness)에 근거해서 한국 대학생과 학습자의 발화 행위를 설명했다. 본고의 결론에서는 이런 연구 결과들을 실제로 한국어 중간 언어 화용론 연구와 외국어로의 한국어 교육에 어떤 식으로 반영시켜야 할 지를 논의했다.

        Radionuclide-Specific Exposure Pathway Analysis of Kori Unit 1 Containment Building Surface

        Site characterization for decommissioning Kori Unit 1 is ongoing in South Korea after 40 years of successful operation. Kori Unit 1's containment building is assumed to be mostly radioactively contaminated, and therefore radiation exposure management and detailed contamination investigation are required for decommissioning and dismantling it safely. In this study, site-specific Derived Concentration Guideline Levels (DCGLs) were derived using the residual radioactivity risk evaluation tool, RESRAD-BUILD code. A conceptual model of containment building for Kori Unit 1 was set up and limited occupational worker building inspection scenario was applied. Depending on the source location, the maximum contribution source and exposure pathway of each radionuclide were analyzed. The contribution of radionuclides to dose and exposure pathways, by source location, is expected to serve as basic data in the assessment criteria of survey areas and classification of impact areas during further decommissioning and decontamination of sites.

      • Unprecedented Insulator-to-Metal Transition Dynamics by Heterogeneous Catalysis in Pd-Sensitized Single Vanadium Oxide Nanowires

        <P>We report an unprecedented insulator-to-metal transition of the Pd-nanoparticle-decorated, single vanadium dioxide nanowires caused by the heterogeneous H<SUB>2</SUB>–Pd catalytic reactions. Upon hydrogen gas exposure, the Pd–VO<SUB>2</SUB> heteronanostructure shows a remarkably large current increase (∼1000-fold) at a temperature 10 °C lower than the insulator-to-metal transition temperature in the bulk. This current increase occurs slowly over the duration of several seconds to several tens of seconds, depending on the Pd coverage, temperature, and hydrogen concentration. After hydrogen flow is shut off, the conductance is not immediately returned to the original value and it takes several hours, indicating that the atomic hydrogens, produced by the dissociative chemisorption on Pd, are incorporated into VO<SUB>2</SUB>. From the electronic transport measurements and finite element analyses, we suggest that the slow transition is mainly due to the formation of alternating domains of metal and insulator regions of the VO<SUB>2</SUB> crystal lattice, produced by the generated heat via the exothermic catalytic process. The current response toward hydrogen gas is also found to be reversible after the heating process.         A Synthesis of High Purity Single-Walled Carbon Nanotubes from Small Diameters of Cobalt Nanoparticles by Using Oxygen-Assisted Chemical Vapor Deposition Process

        A successful combination of “oxygen-assisted chemical vapor deposition (CVD) process” and Co catalyst nanoparticles to grow highly pure single walled carbon nanotubes (SWNTs) was demonstrated. Recently, it was reported that addition of small amounts of oxygen during CVD process dramatically increased the purity and yield of carbon nanotubes. However, this strategy could not be applied for discrete Fe nanoparticle catalysts from which appropriate yields of SWNTs could be grown directly on solid substrates, and fabricated into field effect transistors (FETs) quite efficiently. The main reason for this failure is due to the carbothermal reduction which results in SiO2 nanotrench formation. We found that the oxygen-assisted CVD process could be successfully applied for the growth of highly pure SWNTs by switching the catalyst from Fe to Co nanoparticles. The topological morphologies and p-type transistor electrical transport properties of the grown SWNTs were examined by using atomic force microscope (AFM), Raman, and from FET devices fabricated by photolithography.

      • Experimental and Semi-analytical Study of Wear Contour of Roll Groove and Its Applications to Rod Mill

        <P>In this study, we propose a semi-analytical model which predicts the wear contour of grooved roll in the oval–round (or round–oval) pass rolling process. In the proposed model, the wear contour is assumed to be of a second order polynomial function and computed by using the linear interpolation of the radius of curvature of an incoming workpiece, that of roll groove and a weighting function which takes into account roll force, longitudinal contact length of work roll that undergoes during rolling, property of work roll and roll tonnage. The validity of the proposed model has been examined by applying it to the roughing train in the POSCO No. 2 Rod Mill.A wear measurement system of roll groove has also been developed. Roll wear contour was measured using ‘resin plastics’ which can flow, under small external load, without restraint into any region worn out. The deformed resin plastics, <I>i.e.</I>, roll wear contour, was measured.Results show the proposed model in this study, in overall, has a reasonable accuracy in predicting the roll wear contour but the model underestimates slightly the measurements as the roll speed increases. Roll wear has been found to be linearly dependent on the longitudinal contact length of work roll, roll tonnage, but non-linearly on the roll force and inverse proportional to hardness of work roll.</P>

      • Extended M-ary QT algorithm for RFID system

        Most important technical issue in radio frequency identification (RFID) is to correctly and quickly recognize a number of tag IDs in the reader’s communication range. Unlike the probabilistic RFID tag recognition schemes, a query tree(QT) based protocol guarantees to identify all the tags, where the distribution of tag IDs is assumed to be uniform. In this paper, we proposed an extended M-ary QT protocol, which effectively reduces unnecessary query-response cycles by using non-sequential m-bit recognition method. The simulation results show that the proposed scheme significantly outperforms M-ary QT schemes in terms of identification time, efficiency and communications overhead.

      • Investigation of the size effect on crack propagation using finite element method and strain gradient plasticity

        In this work, we have employed the strain gradient plasticity theory into the continuum mechanics to investigate the size effect of material on the crack propagation of micro-sized copper. Constitutive equation was re-formulated in terms of strain gradient and intrinsic material length. Elastic-plastic finite element method was adopted and revamped to reflect the strain gradient effect during deformation and crack propagation. We calculated the strain gradient at each element using the least square function. To demonstrate the size effect, the proposed approach has been applied to mode-I crack growth problem. It shows that as material size comes near to the intrinsic material length, the crack propagation behavior is quite different compared with that computed from the conventional plasticity theory.
