        <P>Strained-layer multiquantum-well distributed-feedback (SL-MQW-DFB) lasers at a wavelength of 1.55 μm operating from −40°C to 85°C without any coolers are demonstrated. The average value of IMD3 at 1.8 GHz and 5 mW operating conditions was −71 dBc, and the RIN at 2 mW was measured as 151 dB/Hz.         Up to recently severe pedestrian injury and death cases are seldom decreased because the structure of vehicles are increasingly stiffened to protect the driver and passenger. To overcome this problem, in this study the active hood lift system is developed composed of detecting sensor, algorithm, ECU and the actuator which lifts the hood. The operating time and the function of the discrimination of the pedestrian during impact are checked out after the developed system is integrated into the vehicles. Finally, the distinct decreasing of child headform injury could be identified through the EURO-NCAP headform tests and CAE simulations.

      • Adjuvant Chemotherapy with Etoposide, 5-Fluorouracil and Leucovorin(ELF) in Gastric Cancer

        Background: Gastric cancer is one of a major health problem and leading cause of cancer mortality despite worldwide decline in incidence. Surgical resection is the only treatment modality of proven effectiveness. Many phase III trials of adjuvant therapy have been conducted, however postoperative treatment modalities have not proven to be superior to postsurgical observation alone. We evaluated the effect of etoposide, leucovorin, 5-fluorouracil(ELF) regimen on the prevention of relapse and survival benefit after postoperative adjuvant chemotherapy. Material and Methods: Our study is retrospective, non-randomized study without controlled group. Between March 1998 and January 2005, 41 patients with completely resected gastric cancer received six courses of ELF chemotherapy of 4 weeks cycle. Endpoints were toxicities of treatment, overall survival, disease free survival. Results: Fourty one patients were entered into the trial. According to American Joint Comittee for Cancer screening(AJCC) TNM stage, 5 cases were in stage IB, 14 II, 13 IIIA, 5 IIIB, respectively and 4 cases were in stage IV without distant metastasis. With a median follow-up time of 40.3 months, 4-years overall survival and disease free survival was 68%, 63.7%, respectively. Severe neutropenia was observed in 19.5%, anemia was 2.4%, and thrombocytopenia was 2.4%. Severe nausea and vomiting was observed in 7.3%, but diarrhea, mucositis, alopecia, convulsion, edema and therapy related death was not observed. Conclusions : The ELF adjuvant chemotherapy may be effective for resectable gastric cancer with minimal toxicities, but randomized multicenter controlled phase III study is needed to confirm its efficacy and safety.

        Backgrounds:?Tenofovir (TDF) is nucleoside analogue with high potency for profound and durable viral suppression and genetic barriers against resistance; TDF is recommended for the first-line treatment of chronic hepatitis B (CHB) in current guidelines, but data in Korean patients from community studies are lacking. The aim of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of TDF, and to determine patient-dependent or laboratory variables that predict virological response. Methods:?We retrospectively investigated the efficacy of TDF treatment for more than 6 months in 456 nucleos(t)ide-naive CHB patients. The primary endpoint was a virological response (VR), defined as an HBV DNA level of <12 IU/mL. Secondary endpoints were rates of ALT normalization (ALT <upper limit of normal), HBeAg seroconversion, partial virologic response (PVR), virologic breakthrough (VBT), and safety.?Results:?The median duration of TDF therapy was 22.0 (range, 6-40) months. Two hundreds sixty-five (58.1%) patients were HBeAg positive. The mean pre-treatment HBV DNA level was 6.34±1.41 log10 IU/mL. Among the 380 patients with elevated ALT levels at baseline, 343 patients (90.3%) had ALT normalization. VR was achieved in 379 patients (83.1%) during treatment. The cumulative rates of VR at 6, 12, 24 and 36 months were 53.4%, 73.2%, 90.6%, and 95.5%, respectively. PVR was evident in 208 (45.6%) patients. VBT was observed in 25 patients (5.5%). Multivariate logistic regression analysis using selected baseline factors identified absolute HBV-DNA levels at baseline (p<0.001; OR, 0.512; 95% CI, 0.397-0.661) and HBeAg positivity (p<0.001; OR, 0.781; 95% CI, 0.717-0.852) as factors showing significant association with VR. Among 265 HBeAg-positive patients, 43 (9.4%) achieved HBeAg seroconversion. Most adverse events were mild in severity.?Conclusions:?TDF is effective and well tolerated in Korean CHB patients in real life practice, consistent with larger registration trials. The lower HBV DNA levels at baseline and HBeAg-negative CHB patients were significantly associated with VR.

        <P>Although the one-step deposition method has intensively been studied because of the simple and easy fabrication of perovskite films, uncontrolled crystallization of perovskite during one-step deposition often results in films with small crystallites and low surface coverage, leading to low photovoltaic performance. In this study, we have proposed the optimum processing conditions to afford a favorable crystal morphology of perovskite films for achieving high power conversion efficiency of perovskite solar cells. Two different morphologies, tree-like and flower-like morphologies, are developed depending upon the spin-coating time and post-heat treatment temperature. When the perovskite is crystallized from the liquid film after a short spin-coating time, the flower-like morphology is developed, whereas the tree-like morphology is developed when the perovskite is crystallized for a long spin-coating time. When the morphology evolution is monitored using<I>in situ</I>optical microscopy and X-ray diffraction to investigate the origin of the difference between tree-like and flower-like morphologies, it reveals that the CH3NH3I-PbI2-solvent complex is formed to develop the tree-like morphology before CH3NH3PbI3crystals are formed, whereas the flower-like morphology is developed when the CH3NH3PbI3crystals are formed directly from the liquid film without the formation of the CH3NH3I-PbI2-solvent complex. The film with a flower-like morphology, as prepared from DMSO solution, has large-sized crystallites, and the crystallites are highly orientated along (112) and (200) directions, resulting in a high PCE of 13.85%, whereas the film with a tree-like morphology has small-sized crystallites with random crystal orientation, exhibiting very low PCEs.</P>

        <B>Purpose</B> - Automatic segmentation of unorganized 3D human body scan data was developed without heuristic specified values. It was reliable in finding the upper body's primary landmarks. The paper aims to discuss these issues. <B>Design/methodology/approach</B> - Quasi boundary point sequence (QBPS) was defined to find the boundary of the human body. Body scan data were categorized by clustering the features extracted from the predefined QBPS. A non-uniform rational B-spline (NURBS) approximation was used to detect the landmarks of the segmented upper torso. <B>Findings</B> - The segmentation method based on feature extraction was reliable regardless of the scan data's fidelity. It was verified that the landmark detection method introduced in this work is more robust than a previous method that utilizes the position of point data. <B>Originality/value</B> - There are several studies of human body segmentation and body landmark detection. This work, however, aims to automate fully segmentation and develop more reliable searching methods. Unlike previous work that uses only 2D human body information, this work uses 3D body information. Furthermore, previous landmark searching methods were superseded by more robust methods applying NURBS approximations.

      • Heat Dissipation of Transparent Graphene Defoggers

        <P><B>Abstract</B></P><P>In spite of recent successful demonstrations of flexible and transparent graphene heaters, the underlying heat‐transfer mechanism is not understood due to the complexity of the heating system. Here, graphene/glass defoggers are fabricated and the dynamic response of the temperature as a function of input electrical power is measured. The graphene/glass defoggers reveal shorter response times than Cr/glass defoggers. Furthermore, the saturated temperature of the graphene/glass defoggers is higher than for Cr/glass defoggers at a given input electrical power. The observed dynamic response to temperature is well‐fitted to the power‐balance model. The response time of graphene/glass defogger is shorter by 44% than that of the Cr/glass defogger. The convective heat‐transfer coefficient of graphene is 12.4 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> W cm<SUP>−2</SUP> °C<SUP>−1</SUP>, similar to that of glass (11.1 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> W cm<SUP>−2</SUP> °C<SUP>−1</SUP>) but smaller than that of chromium (17.1 × 10<SUP>−4</SUP> W cm<SUP>−2</SUP> °C<SUP>−1</SUP>). The graphene‐based system reveals the lowest convective heat‐transfer coefficient due to its ideal flat surface compared to its counterparts of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) and reduced graphene oxide (RGO)‐based systems.</P>

        송과체 부위 종양의 치료 방법에 대한 고찰

        The management of pineal region tumors remains controversial. Advocates of a conservative approach emphasize the excellent results of radiotherapy, particularly with germinoma, while a number of recent reports have demonstrated the safety of direct surgery. We analyzed 8 cases of pineal region tumors which had been treated at our institution over the past 7 years. Tissue diagnosis was obtained in 3 patients before irradiation and 5 patients underwent irradiation without histological diagnosis. Among 5 irradiated patients initially, four patients had been achieved complete remission by radiotherapy thus they were presumptively germinoma, but other one patient had no respones, so she had been underwent surgry. Among 3 biopsy proven cases, 2 were teratoma and other one was embryonal carcinoma. Complete gross microsurgical excision of well encapsulated tumor was possible in two teratoma cases. MRI and other neuroradiological studies have been found to be useful in indicating the biological nature and histological type of pineal tumor. So, consideration of MRI scans together with tumor makers and response to small dose irradiation will generally allow a specific diagnosis with a high degree of probability. In this way, germinomas may be selected for radiotherapy and the tumor less likely to response may be subject to primary surgery to obtain complete tumor extirpation or tissue diagnosis.
