<P>To increase the energy storage capacity of Li-ion batteries (LIBs), novel anode materials having excellent electrochemical properties need to be intensively studied. In particular, although Si as an anode active material has a high theoretical capacity compared to graphite, Si has exhibited irreversible cycle properties due to its volumetric expansion during the charge/discharge process. In this study, a 3-D paper-type Si-carbon nanofiber-composite electrode (Si/CNF-P) as a binder/current collector-free anode for LIBs was prepared using an electrospinning method. The Si/CNF-P exhibited a high initial capacity of 1957 mAh g(-1) at 2 A g(-1) and maintained 1187 mAhg(-1) (retention rate of 60.6%) for 400 cycles. The enhanced performance of Si/CNF-P as an anode without a current collector and a binder in LIBs can be mainly attributed to the voids produced by cross-linked CNFs as a matrix and the electrochemical reaction of Si NPs on the CNFs without additional collapse of the electrode. Species identification of Papaver by metabolite profiling

Papaver somniferum L. and Papaver setigerum D.C. are controlled as opium poppy in Korea because they contain narcotic substances such as morphine and codeine. It is one of the critical issues whether the plants similar to opium poppy in shape are controlled plants or not. There are more than 110 species in the genus Papaver worldwide and about 10 species in Korea. As the morphological features of some species are very similar and the alkaloid contents and the ratios among the major alkaloids vary even within the same species, it is often difficult to identify the exact species by the morphological features and/or major alkaloids analysis. To develop a new method that uses metabolite profiling for species discrimination between P. somniferum, Papaver rhoeas and P. setigerum, the gas chromatography/mass spectrometry (GC-MS) data of the alkaline extract were processed with in-house Microsoft Visual Basic<SUP>(</SUP>R) modules and the chemical information was analyzed through multivariate statistical analyses such as Hierarchical cluster analysis (HCA), principal component analysis (PCA) and discriminant analysis (DA). The GC-MS results combined with multivariate analysis demonstrated that the metabolite profiling was an efficient technique for the classification and this method will provide a powerful tool for the identification of Korean Papaver species.

To examine the efficiency of nuclear transplantation the influence of electrical preactivation of recipient cytoplasm on the in vitro developmental potentyl in the nuclear transplant rabbit embryos were evaluated. The embryos of 16-cell stage were collected and synchronized to G₁phase of 32-cell stage. The recipient cytoplasms were obtained by removing the first polar body and chromosome mass by non-disruptive microsurgery procedure. The separated G₁phase blastomeres of 32-cell stage were out into the non-preactivated and/or the preactivated recipient cytoplasm by electrical stimulation. After culture until 20h post-hCG injection, the nuclear transplant oocytes were electrofused. The fused nuclear transplant embryos were co-cultured with rabbit oviduct for 120h, the nuclear transplant embryos developed to blastocyst stage were stained with Hoechst 33342 and their blastomere were counted. The electrofision rate was similar to the non-preactivated and preactivated recipient cytoplasm(81.8 and 85.7%, respectively). However, the in vitro developmental rate to blastocyst stage with the non-preactivated recipient cytoplasm(163.7cells), as compared with the preactivated recipient cytoplasm(85.4 cells). These results considered better that non-preactivated oocytes, MⅡ phase oocytes, were used for recipient cytoplasms in the rabbit nuclear transplant procedure.

A seroepidemiological survey was performed to estimate the prevalence of leptospirosis in Korean population. The study population consisted of 967 randomly selected people from 17 counties out of 5 provinces. Macroscopic slide agglutination test was used for serology of leptospirosis. 117 sera out of 967 were positive (11.7%) for leptospirosis. Kang Won Province showed highest positive rate (17.1%), followed by Kyunggi (16.2%), Chung Book (10.2%), Kyung Book (6.2%), Chun Nam Province (2.2%), Hoeng Sung County showed highest prevalence rate (26.2%) and Chang Sung County Showed lowest prevalence (0%). There was no difference in prevalence rate between male and female. But older people (41∼60 years) showed higher prevalence rate than the younger people (21∼30 years). Some activities, including weeding in the field or grave and working barefoot in the rice field were associated with higher prevalence. History of recent flu-like symptoms suggestive of leptospirosis (chill, headache, cough, walking difficulty, dyspnea, diarrhea, conjunctival suffusion) was more common in antibody positive group. Leptospirosis is wide spread infection throughout Korea, though considerable variance in prevalence rate was noted.

Poland's syndrome means a congenital unilateral pectoralis muscle defect, often accompained by the deformity of the ipsilateral upper extrimity. Besides the pectoralis major muscle defect, the defects of deltoid, supra-and infra-supinatus, latissimus dorsi, rectus abdominis, teres major & minor etc. may occur as muscle deformity. And also breast tissue, nipple and areolar, subcutaneous fat deficiency and abnormality of costal cartilage and anterior ends of ribs may be associated. In the ipsilateral upper extrimity, various abnormlity inclding sysdactly, brachydactyly may be associated. This paper describes an experience of Poland's pectoralis muscle anomaly, which was corrected with latissimus muscular island flap transposition and silastic prosthesis augmentation.
