자연광의 이용은 큰 어려움 없이 지속 가능한 에너지 기술을 구현할 수 있는 방안으로 고려되고 있다. 여러 개의 작은 반사경을 적용한 태양 추적식 자연채광 시스템은 비교적 단순한 메카니즘을 적용하여 그 성능과 효용성의 극대화를 꾀할 수 있으며, 또한 그 제작, 설치 작동 그리고 활용성에서 상당한 이점이 있다. 본 연구에서는 작은 mini-dish형 반사경(직경<30cm 이하)을 이용한 화이버 광학 집광기의 설계, 제작 및 작동 특성에 대하여 소개하고, 아울러 광추적 프로그램인 Photopia를 이용하여 그 성능에 대한 시뮬레이션을 수행하였다. 주요 구성 요소에서의 광추적에 의한 시뮬레이션 결과치는 실제 시스템의 설계 및 성능 예측에 중요한 기술적 데이터를 제공하며, 특히 실측이 곤란한 측정 면에서의 빛의 경로 해석에 유용하게 적용될 수 있다.
실내조명용 화이버 광학 집광기의 성능에 관한 실험적 평가

A series of outdoor tests were conducted on a fiber optic solar concentrator system for its performance on daylighting. The system is comprised of four main components - a parabolic dish reflector, a convex mirror, a homogenizer tube and an optical fiber cable. Results show that the system could he successfully applied for indoor lighting if some improvements are made for light transmiting (optical) cables. A maximum concentration ratio of 90 was observed deliveling the illuminance of 4.800 lux at a distance of l.2m from the diffuser for the outdoor illuminance of 102,100 lux.
주광제어 장치를 이용한 건물의 에너지 절약(이론 및 실제)

본 조사에서는 자연광 (일광, 혹은 주광 : sunlight)을 도입하는데 있어 현휘(glare)나 강한 휘도군을 지양하고 하절기의 과열을 방지하여 쾌적한 생활환경을 조성하는데 유용한 주광 제어 장치들의 종류와 특성에 대해 간략히 알아보고 이를 적용한 외국의 실제 예를 소개하였다. 특히, 미국 Utah주 Salt Lake City에 위치한 Johnson Controls사의 지사 건물은 자연채광의 한 방편으로 light shelf와 고창을 이용하여 에너지 절약과 실내 빛 환경의 개선을 도모한 좋은 표본이라 하겠다. 에너지 자원을 거의 수입에 의존하고 있는 우리의 실정을 감안한다면 우리도 이 분야에 대한 다각적인 검토와 연구가 이루어져 건물에너지의 절약을 꾀하여야 할 것이다. In the present analysis, a number of sun control devices are examined for their performance in promoting the interior visual environment. Two exemplary cases are introduced for their excellence in harnessing the concept of daylighting and passive concepts. Of these, the Johnson Controls branch office building in Salt Lake City manifests the effectiveness of light shelves and clerestory windows in implementing these concepts. Distinct optical characteristics are found for overhangs, light shelves, louvers, and blinds as they interfere with the path of sunlight. Substantial amount of energy could be saved if the fundamentals of these devices are truly understood in their application to residential and commercial buildings. Sustained efforts should be made in this regard by the builders, architects, energy consultants, and educators who make contributions in energy management.

Caltech’s Linde-Robinson Laboratory was originally built in 1932 featuring a Spanish mission-style design, whose function was to facilitate a solar observatory with a coelostat solar telescope dome and a solar shaft extending from the roof to more than 36.58m below the ground. The building has now been transformed into a cutting-edge center for research and instruction in global environmental science that retains its original character while setting new standards in energy efficiency and green design. It is the first LEED Platinum lab in the USA for renovation of a historical research building, consuming only one-sixth of the energy that the lab’s comparable laboratories do. This work introduces various energy and environmental strategies hired for its sustainable rehabilitation and, especially, examines the functional validity of solar telescope daylighting by a coelostat. Observations were made on the llumination of underground floors, where illuminances of 40~50 lx were measured.

Objective: To verify the expression of leptin receptor (OB-R) in oocytes and preimplantation embryos, the involvement of mitogen activated protein kinase (MAPK or Erk1/2) in the leptin signaling, and effect of leptin on the oocyte maturation in mice. Method: RT-PCR analysis of OB-R was conducted in germinal vesicle (GV)-intact and MII stage oocytes, and 1, 2, 8-cell embryos and blastocysts. Germinal vesicle breakdown (GVB), polar body extrusion, monitored in the presence or absence of leptin ($1{\mu}M$). Following the leptin treatment, temporal changes in MAPK activity were verified by immunoprecipitation and in vitro kinase assay in MII oocytes. Results: The expression of OB-R mRNA was found in GV and MII oocyte but not in the embryos. MAPK activity of the MII oocytes was significantly increased by brief incubation in the HTF supplemented with leptin ($1{\mu}M$). Priming of PD098059, a MEK inhibitor to leptin treatment attenuated the activation of MAPK by leptin in MII oocytes. Following 24 hrs of culture of the GV oocytes, leptin significant increased the GVB and 1 st polar body extrusion. Conclusion: This result suggested that functional interaction between leptin and OB-R resulted in potentiation of MAPK (Erk1/2) activity in MII oocytes through MEK activation and that leptin might be a local regulator of meiotic maturation of the mouse oocytes.

A computational analysis has been carried on the spatial light distribution of a windowless space (lecture room) with light tubes by using Phototpia and Radiance. A set of candela distribution curves (CDCs) were generated under clear and overcast skies at different solar altitudes. The candela distribution curves were then exported to Radiance for the photometric analysis, especially, in terms of illuminance. It was found that sky conditions considerably affect the functional performance of a light tube. The transmission efficiency remained at a constant value of 61% when operated under an overcast sky condition. On the other hand, higher the solar altitude angle, greater in the transmission efficiency under a clear sky condition since the sun contribution becomes more dominant than the contribution of light from the sky. Observations were made on the Radiance rendered images, which provided photo-realistic pictures at various solar altitudes. When six light tubes were installed and operated under a clear sky, the average illuminance of the space exceeded 300lx satisfying its value recommended by the KS recommended standard.

This paper reports an experimental investigation to design a tree-shaped wind power system using piezo-electric materials. The proposed system is to produce power if wind is strong enough to produce any bending motions in the energy converting elements. i.e.. piezo-electric materials. Two different kinds of piezoelectric materials are used in the present study to produce power by scavenging energy from the wind. The soft flexible one made the leaf element while the hard one was applied to the trunk portion of the tree requiring rather strong winds to generate any power. Although small. each leaf deems to play the role of a power producer and currents are continuously trickling down to the storage battery installed at the bottom of the system.

A set of candela distribution curves(CDCs) were generated for 3 fiber optic dish daylighting system by Photopia under clear sky conditions at different solar altitudes. The candela distribution curves were then exported to Radiance for photometric analysis of a windowless lecture room. Observations were made on the Radiance rendered illuminance images, which provided photo realistic scenes varying with solar altitudes. If no tracking error were assumed, the daylight collection efficiency of the system remained at a constant value of 68.4% during its operation. Higher the solar altitude angle, greater in photometric quantities were observed, which are represented by candela(cd) and total lumens(lm). In all cases considered, however, the angle of light distribution remained fixed reflecting the solar tracking feature of the system. The illuminance uniformity on the workplane lingered around 0.12, which is quite low. This is quite a contrast to its average value of 0.68 of the 2.7㎡ area directly below the terminal device (diffuser) of the system. The maximum illuminance of 1,340lux was obtained at a solar altitude of 80 degrees.
