Tonsillar Lymphangiomatous Polyp in a Dog

A 12-year-old female spayed miniature schnauzer with one month history of halitosis had a cylindrical protruding mass about 2 × 2 × 1 cm in size arising from the right palatine tonsil. Histopathologically, tonsillar mass was covered with stratified squamous epithelium and many lymphoid follicles with germinal center were existed in the upper area of submucosa. Numerous variable sized, occasionally cystic dilated vascular channels (thin walled lymphatic channels) lined by flattened, discontinous endothelial cells were widely distributed throughout the core of fibrovascular stroma. According to immunohistochemistry (IHC), lining endothelial cells in vascular channels showed strong immunoreactivities for CD31 and von Willebrand factor. Based on the gross, histopathologic, and IHC findings, the oral mass of dog was diagnosed as tonsillar lymphangiomatous polyp, the second case in a veterinary field.

한국에서 고도라는 개념은 『고도보존 및 육성에 관한 특별법』에서 「고도란 과거 우리 민족의 정치ㆍ문화의 중심지로서 역사상 중요한 의미를 지닌 경주ㆍ부여ㆍ공주ㆍ익산, 그 밖에 대통령령으로 정하는 지역을 말한다.」라고 정의되어 있듯이 법률적인 의미가 강하게 내포되어 있다. 현재까지 학계에서 고도라는 주제를 가지고 심층적으로 접근한 연구는 거의 전무한 형편이다. 여기에서는 백제의 고도인 공주, 부여, 익산지역에 대한 역사문화의 정체성을 추출한 다음, 지금까지 고도사업에 대한 문제점을 지적하였다. 특히 익산 고도지구 지정에 있어서 고도의 핵심지역이 배제된 점과, 또한 고도의 성격을 규명하는 예정된 시범사업조차도 본래의 목적에서 매우 동떨어진 사업으로 판단하여 그 대안을 제시하고자 하였다. 익산도성의 유적을 통해서 보면 공주, 부여와는 다른 “소통과 화합의 메시지”가 강하게 담겨있어 이러한 메시지가 표현될 수 있는 고도 구현이 그것이라 할 것이다. 그리고 다른 고도지역과 달리 유적 보존상태는 물론, 당시의 환경이 잘 보존되어 있어 고도 복원에 있어서 강력한 경쟁력이 있음도 강조하였다. 한편 고도 익산의 종합적이고 체계적인 연구와 보존, 복원을 위해서는 중국의 고도유적에 대한 선행 연구의 필요성이 제기되어 중국 고도학회에 대한 현황을 간략히 소개하였다. 앞으로 중국은 물론, 일본 고도와의 비교연구를 통하여 좀 더 폭 넓은 접근이 요구된다고 하겠다. 나아가 한국 고도연구에 있어서 익산이 중심적 위치에서 하나의 표준이 될 수 있는 중요한 지역이라는 점을 강조하고 싶다.

A New Approach to Studies on Iksan Cultural Area Wangyu Choi Director Jeonbuk Cultural Property Research Institute ABSTRACT The area in and around Iksan is where cultural activities have ceaselessly been performed since early from the Old Stone Age until now. Its standing as the birth place of Mahan and as the royal capital during the reign of the King Mu of Baekje Kingdom has been endorsed by various literary works and archaeological materials. Iksan might thus be viewed as the best possible place for experimenting restoration of the old history by connecting literature with archaeological data. As the studies on the cultural relics of the Bronze Age in Iksan area are relatively few in numbers and scarce in kinds, it is requested to conduct more detailed and systematic studies on economic life and changes in tomb system of the age. Although there are certain amounts of agreement among the researchers concerning the issue that the King Jun moved southward to Iksan during the period of Mahan culture, more substantive researches are needed to investigate the establishment of the political system of Mahan by closely tracking down the social changes following the influx of the Iron Age culture. In order to link Iksan area with such statelets as Geonma and Mokji, further efforts should be made to compare and examine literature and archaeological data. Diverse opinions including the theory of the capital transfer have been brought forth to define the position of Iksan during the reign of the King Mu of Baekje Kingdom. This is why it is necessary to make depth reviews of the records in Samguksagi and Samgukyusa which deal with the king. It is especially desired in this connection to understand the archaeological data concerning royal palaces from the perspective of the structure of the royal fortress or to conduct comparative studies on the structure of Chinese royal fortresses. Introduction of science of old capital cities may be a solution in this regard, it is suggested. Now seems therefore high time for experts to embark on advanced researches to find the identity of the royal culture in Iksan as an old capital city and for citizens to display more ripen civic consciousness as it coincides with the currently ongoing inscription of Baekje cultural and historical relics in Iksan area as the world cultural heritage and the project for invitation of the national museum in Iksan. 익산지역은 구석기시대에서 현대에 이르기까지 끊임없이 문화활동이 이루어진 지역이다. 특히 마한의 성립지와 백제 무왕대 왕도로서 위상은 문헌이나 고고학 자료에서 확인된다. 따라서 익산지역은 문헌과 고고학자료의 접목을 통한 고대사 복원의 실험장이 될 수 있는 지역이다. 익산지역에서 청동기문화유적은 발굴유적 건수나 그 종류에 비해 연구는 미진한 편으로, 생업경제나 묘제의 변화에 대한 구체적이고 체계적인 연구가 요망된다. 마한문화에 있어서는 준왕의 남천지가 익산이라는 데는 연구자간의 동의가 어느 정도 이루어지고 있으나, 철기문화 유입에 따른 사회변화를 추적하여 마한 정치체 성립에 대한 실체적 접근이 필요하다. 또한 익산지역을 건마국이나 목지국에 비정하기 위해서는 좀 더 문헌과 고고학자료의 비교검토가 있어야 할 것이다. 백제 무왕대 익산의 위치에 대해서는 천도설을 비롯한 다양한 견해가 제기되고 있는데, 삼국사기나 삼국유사의 무왕대 기사에 대한 심도있는 검토가 필요하다. 특히 왕궁을 비롯한 고고학자료들은 도성체계 속에서 이해하려는 자세가 요망된다. 나아가 중국의 도성체계와 비교 검토가 필요한데, 고도학의 도입이 하나의 해결점이 될 수 있을 것이다. 최근 세계문화유산 등재나 국립박물관 유치 등에 있어서 익산의 왕도문화 정체성을 담아낼 수 있는 전문가의 선행적인 연구와 성숙된 시민의식이 필요한 시점이다.
