The purpose of this study is to investigate the effect on work efficiency when providing a workation space to office workers. For this purpose, a field experiment was conducted at an office in Seoul and a workation office in the suburbs. For work efficiency, attention, productivity, and creativity were measured using a neuroarchitectural approach. As the results of study, those who worked in the workation office showed higher concentration and work productivity than those who work in their city-based office. During working, they perform work under low stress, and show higher spatial satisfaction than city-based office. Therefore, the workation office that combines work and vacation improves the work efficiency of workers.

This study was conducted to suggest effective alternatives for human resource management in the foodservice industry by investigating the influence of social exchange on employee empowerment and organizational efficiency, The findings derived from the study are as follows: First, the major components of social exchange, organizational support and the leader-member exchange (LMX), significantly influenced the components of employee empowerment such as signification and self-determination. Secondly, we found that signification and self-determination had a significant impact on the turnover intentions and organizational commitment of the employees, which in turn organizational efficiency. Thirdly, both the employees' turnover intentions and organizational commitment were significantly influenced by the organizational support and the leader-member exchange. These results suggest that it is necessary to have active communication between organizational leaders and members to improve employee empowerment. In other words, employees should acknowledge the meaning and importance of their tasks and support at the organizational level should be provided to ensure employee empowerment.

Peripheral blood from 162 patients with cancers of cervics, lung, esophagus, liver, stomach and colon, of whom 11 were metastatic, in compare with 44 normal control, was examined the lymphocyte subpopulations by immunobead method using Quantigen assay kit(Bio-rad, U. S. A.). In normal control, the proportions of T. B, null, T4 and T8 cells(%T, %B, %Null, %T4 and %T8) in peripheral blood lymphocytes were 78.9±3.3(%), 10.3±2.5(%), 10.8±3.2(%), 44.0±5.0(%) and 35.6±5.0(%), respectively, and the T4/T8 ratios were 1.28±0.32. Then, we decided our laboratorie's own normal reference values (mean±2SD) of peripheral blood lymphocyte subpopulations as following: %T as 72.3-85.5. %B as 5.3-15.3, %Null as 4.4-154, %T4 as 35.0-54.0, %T8 as 25.6-45.6, and T4/T8 ratio as 0.64-1.92. Absolute counts(/㎣) of lymphocyte, T, B, T4 and T8 cells, and %T were increased in all cancer groups. %B was increased only in cervical cancer group. %Null and alsolute counts of null cells were significantly decreased in all cancer group, especially in hepatoma and metastaic cancer group. Patients with below normal reference value of %Null were 25.5-80.0% in each cancer group and 54.5% in metastatic cancer group, but absent in control group. The increase of T4/T8 ratio and %T4 and the decrease of %T8 was significant in cervical cancer group, and the tendecy of which was noted in esophageal cancer group. Patients with below normal reference value of T4/T8 ratio were 8.3-20.0% in each cancer group, but absent in metastatic cancer and control group. Patients with below nermal reference value of %T3 were 5.9-23.9% in each cancer group and 2.3% in control group, but absent in metastatic cancer. Patients with below normal reference value of %T8 were 8.8-20.0% in each cancer group and 2.3% in control group, but absent in metastatic cancer group.

Authors experienced a case of Patau syndrome in a 1 day old male, born to the mother aged 34 years. He was born with multiple congenital anomalies such as microcephaly, malformed low-set ears, cleft lip and palate, cryptorchidism, anomalous scrotum, micropenis, clenched hand and Rockerbottom feet. Tetralogy of Fallot and atrioventricular canal defect were detected by echocardiography, and chromosomal analysis showed 47 chromosomes with 13 trisomy. He died at 9th day of life. A brief review of the literature was made.

For detection of M. tuberculosis using hot-air capillary-thermocycler, FTC-2000[Daehan Medical System Co, Korea], We amplified 188 base pair IS986 fragment from chromosomal DNA of M. tuberculosis H37Rv strain by two-step nested method, and the concentrations of each component of polymerase chain reaction(PCR) mixture and the temperatures and times of each PCR stage were indivisually optimized. When compared to conventional heating-block method, only one tenth of reaction volume and time were required, i. e. 10ul and 10-30 minute, respectively. Final concentrations of each component at optimal condition were 0.5uM each primer, 0.2mM each dNTP, 50mM Tris-HCI(pH 8.3), 500ug/ml bovine serum albumin(BSA), 4mM MgCl₂and 0.5-1U Taq polymerase per reaction. Optimal temperatures and times of each stage were 94℃ and 1 sec of predenaturation, 45-55℃ and 1 sec of annealing, 72℃ and 10-20 sec of post-elongation, and optimal cycles of each nested-PCR were 30-50. Among various condition of capillary-PCR, BSA, annealing temperature and MgCl₂effect most critically on PCR result. At an annealing temperature of 45℃ with 3.5mM MgCl₂or 55℃ with 3mM MgCl₂, two-step nested-PCR gave greatest yield and highest sensitivity. At these optimal condition of capillary-PCR, 0.5fg of M. tuberculosis H37Rv DNA(same amout of DNA extracted from a single tubercle bacillus) was amplified effectively.

It has been understand that a laboratory information system(LIS) plays an important role in a hospital information system(HIS). However, few HIS has been equipped with a fully automated LIS. This is partly because, in order to achieve a fully automated LIS, there are many testing equipment has its own communication protocol. In this paper, a bi-directional communication system between an ABBOTT SPECTRUM EPx auto-chemical analyzer and a PC is constructed. With the communication system, it is possible that a PC controls an EPx's operations and that the PC receives test results form the EPx automatically. RS-232C serial ports are used in order to make bi-directional communication possible between them
