      • Enhanced Biocompatibility of Bio-polymers via Metal Ion-implantation

        With the increasing demand for improved quality of life, bio-polymers have been widely used to fabricate diverse biomedical implants. However, in clinical practice, their intended biological performances can be greatly impaired by inappropriate host tissue responses at the implant surface. Herein, we introduce poly(lactic acid) (PLA) and silicone materials for use in orthopedic and breast implant applications, respectively, and modify their surfaces via sputtering-based plasma immersion ion implantation (S-PIII). This technique can implant the most biocompatible metal, tantalum (Ta), on the surface of PLA and silicone and generate nano-textured surface morphologies on both materials without any substrate defects. After S-PIII process, the biologically inert surface chemical properties and high hydrophobicity of PLA and silicone are substantially ameliorated, which leads to significant improvement of in vitro cellular affinity and in vivo host tissue responses.

      • 토양 미생물에 의한 PAH 분해 특성

        PAHs의 분해를 위해 Bacillus subtilis 와 Phanerochaete chrysosporium의 두 미생물을 사용하였고, 이들을 부착시킬 담체로 코르크와 톱밥를 선정하여 미생물을 접종시켰다. Phenanthrene 분해의 경우, 반응 초기에는 분해 속도가 매우 빠르지만 반응 12일째 분해 속도가 떨어졌다. 분해 속도는 1)톱밥에 담지한 Bacillus subtilis, 2)코르크에 담지한 Bacillus subtilis, 3)톱밥에 담지한 Phanerochaete chrysosporium, 4)코르크에 담지한 Phanerochaete chrysosporium의 순으로 나타났다.

        We study the Web-based guide book for elementary school’s science teacher and develop some examples. The textbook and teacher's guide book are important to science teachers. Because the teacher’s guide book has form of printed book, then it is somewhat static. So, it is difficult to update and teachers have some difficult to get the supplement information about the subject. To overcome these limitations, we consider the Web-based teacher's guide books using ICT, and develop sample guide book on the magnetic fields. Recently, smart devices and their contents have been interested rapidly. This Web based teacher's guide books are very helpful for someone to get the information about education at any time and anywhere. One can easily access to the related and recent information via various ways. We think that the Web-based teacher’s guide book will be useful for any teacher in the field.

        8-Azaxanthine과 그 유도체의 합성 및 시험관내 항암 활성

        8-Azaxanthine(1), 3-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranosyl-8-azaxanthine(2), 3-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranosyl-8-azaxanthine-5'-monophosphate(3) 그리고 3-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranosyl-8-azaxanthine-5'-(3-pyridinylcarbonyl)monophosphate(4)를 합성한 후 Mouse leukemia P388, Murine mammary carcinoma FM3A, Human histiocytic lymphoma U937 암세포들에 대해 시험관내 항암활성을 MTT를 이용한 방법으로 예측하고 $IC_{50}$(${\mu}mol/mL$)으로 나타내었다. 그 결과, 비정상적인 염기의 N-3와 당의 C-1' glycoside 결합을 가진 2는 세가지의 암세포에 대해 감수성이 좋아 $IC_{50}$이 각각 0.05, 0.06, 0.06 ${\mu}mol/mL$이었으나 항세균 활성 예측에서는 감수성을 보이지 않았다. Human histiocytic lymphoma U937 세포에 대한 $IC_{50}$은 1이 0.33, 2는 0.66, 3은 0.25 그리고 4는 0.33 ${\mu}mol/mL$로 구조 변화에 따라 서로 다른 값을 보였다 8-Azaxanthine (1), 3-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranosyl-8-azaxanthine (2), 3-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranosyl-8-azaxanthine-5'-monophosphate (3), and 3-${\beta}$-D-ribofuranosyl-8-azaxanthine-5'-(3-pyridinylcarbonyl)monophosphate (4) were synthesized. The in vitro antitumor activities of the synthesized compounds against P388 mouse leukemia, FM3A mammary carcinoma, and U937 human histiocytic lymphoma cells were determined by MTT assay. 2 with unnatural N-3 and C-1' glycoside bond had activity against three tumor cell lines and $IC_{50}$s of these compounds were 0.05, 0.06, and 0.06 ${\mu}mol/mL$ against three tumor cell lines, respectively. But these compounds had no antibacterial activity. $IC_{50}$s against U937 human histiocytic lymphoma cells were verified with the structural modification: $IC_{50}$s of 1, 2, 3, and 4 were 0.33, 0.06, 0.25, and 0.33 ${\mu}mol/mL$, respectively.

        Mastoparan B의 항균 활성 및 용혈 작용에 미치는 소수성도와 양친매성의 영향

        Tetradecapeptide, Mastoparan B(MP B) and its [$Ala^2$]-, [$Ala^4$]-, [$Ala^6$]-, [$Ala^9$]-MP B derivatives were synthesized, and then their antibacterial and hemolytic activities were assayed to examine the effect of hydrophobicity and amphiphilicity on the MP B-induced those activities. MP B and more hydrophobic [$Ala^2$]-, [$Ala^4$]-MP B showed stronger antibacterial activity and less hydrophobic [$Ala^6$]-MP B than MP B did similar or weaker activity, so more hydrophobic [Ala]-MP B derivative had stronger activity. But more hydrophobic [$Ala^9$]-MP B than MP B showed weaker activity because of its Trp substitution by Ala. On the other hand, [$Ala^2$]- and [$Ala^4$]-MP B showed 100.0% and 69.4% hemolytic activity, but [$Ala^6$]-MP B did the weakest activity(6.1%) and [$Ala^9$]-MP B, weaker activity(26.0%) than MP-B. Therefore, more hydrophobic [Ala]-MP B derivative had stronger activity and the effect of amphiphilicity on the activity was weak. Tetradecapeptide인 Mastoparan B(MP B)와 이의 [Ala]-MP B 유도체들을 합성하고 항균 활성 및 용혈 작용을 측정하여 MP B의 활성에 미치는 소수성도(hydrophobicity)와 양친매성(amphiphilicity)의 영향을 비교하였다. 그 결과 MP B와 소수성도가 MP B 보다 큰 [$Ala^2$]-, [$Ala^4$]-MP B 유도체가 큰 항균 활성을 나타내었으며, 소수성도가 MP B보다 작은 [$Ala^6$]-MP B 유도체의 활성은 MP B와 비슷하거나 작게 나타나 소수성도가 큰 유도체일수록 항균 활성을 크게 나타내었다. 그러나 MP B 보다 소수성도가 큰 유도체인 [$Ala^9$]-MP B는 Ala에 의한 Trp의 치환때문에 MP B 보다 작은 활성을 나타내었다. 용혈 활성 측정 결과 MP B보다 소수성도가 큰 [$Ala^2$]-, [$Ala^4$]-MP B 유도체가 각각 100.0%와 69.4%로써 용혈 작용을 크게 나타냈으나, 소수성도가 작은 [$Ala^6$]-MP B 유도체는 6.1%로써 가장 작은 용혈 작용을 나타내었고 Trp 대신 Ala으로 치환한 소수성도가 큰 유도체인 [$Ala^9$]-MP B는 MP B 보다 작은 26.0%의 용혈 작용을 나타내었다. 그러므로 용혈 작용은 소수성도가 클수록 증가하였으며 양친매성이 활성에 미치는 영향은 적었다.

        Substance P(SP), Neurokinin A(NKA) 및 Neurokinin B(NKB)는 포유류 유래의 신경펩티드(neuropeptide)로서 Neurokinin군으로 분류되며, Tachykinin족에 속한다. SP, NKA 및 NKB의 생물활성의 차이를 화학구조의 면에서 해명하기 위하여 Neurokinin군 펩티드들의 아미노산 배열을 서로 바꾼 유사체들을 Boc-HF에 의한 고상법에 의하여 화학합성하고, 이 펩티드들의 생물활성을 모르모트 기관(Guinea Pig Trachea : GPT)의 평활근에 대한 근육수축활성을 지표로하여 측정하였다. 본 연구에서는, GPT에 대한 Neurokinin군 펩티드들의 평활근의 수축활성은 카르복실 말단측의 7개의 아미노산이 필수적임을 확인하였다. 또한, 제4위의 아스파르트산, 제7위의 발린이 활성발현에 중요하며, NKA와 NKB의 생물활성의 차이는 제5위의 아미노산(NKA; Ser, NKB; Phe)의 구조적인 차이에 의존함이 시사되었다. Neurokinin peptides (Substance P; SP, Neurokinin A; NKA and Neurokinin B; NKB) are a neuropeptide belong to the mammalian tachykinin family. To elucidate the difference in biological properties among neurokinin peptides from chemical structure, the peptide derivatives of neurokinins were synthesized by the solution and solid-phase method and their contractile activities were measured by contraction assay with the smooth muscle of guinea pig trachea (GPT). This study demonstrated that the C-terminal heptapeptide containing two amino acid residues, $Asp^4$ and $Val^7$, is indispensible for contracting activity in GPT. Further, structureactivity studies indicate that the amino acid residues (Ser and Phe) at position 5 from N-terminus play an important role in showing the difference of biological actvity between NKA and NKB in GPT assay.

In the adult. headache. temporal bulging and mild proptosis are the usual presenting complaints, although seizures and contralateral weakness have been described Bitemporal hemianopsia associated with this lesion has not been noted previously. Herein we describe the patient with bitemporal hemianopsia associated with sylvian fissure arachnoid cyst Cystoperitoneal shunt was beneficial. The etiology, histology, and suggested therapy of other patient with arachnooid cyst are also discussed

      • 간흡충 감염 흰쥐에 대한 알벤다졸의 치료 효과

        간흡충을 횐쥐에 실험 감염시킨 후 2일, 2주 및 5주에 여러가지 용량의 알벤다졸을 투여하여 충체의 각 발육단계 및 약제용량에 따른 살충 효과를 검토하고자 하였다. 감염 후 2일, 2주, 5주의 발육 단계별 살충율은 각각 26.2∼47.6(평균 39.3) %, 21.4∼54.8(평균 32.2) %,84.3-100(평균 91)%로, 유약충에 비해 성충에 대한 살충율이 높았다. 동일 치료군 내에서는 약제 투여량 및 방법에 따라 살충율의 차이가 뚜렷하지 않았고, 각 치료군 공통으로 2×200mg 용량에서 가장 높은 살충율을 나타내었다. 완전한 살충은 감염 5주 후 치료군의 2×200mg 투약군에서만 이루어졌다. This study was performed to evaluate the chemotherapeutic effects of albendazole against the larvae, juveniles and adults of Clonorchis sinensis. The metacercariae were obtained from Pseudorasbora parva by the pepsin digestion method, and 70 rats(Sprague-Dawley strain) were fed each with 50 metacercariae. On 60 rats various dosages of albendazole(2×2mg, 2×50mg, 200mg, 2×100mg, 2×200mg) were given at 2 days, 2 weeks and 5 weeks after infection while remaining 10 rats were kept untreated for use as control. The drug-treated rats and untreated control were sacrificed at 6 weeks after infection for the recovery of worms. The cure rates(lethal rates) obtained from worm recovery rates were used as the decision base of drug effects. Followings are summarized results. 1.The recovery rate of C. sinensis in control group was in the range from 60% to 100%, with overall average value of 84%. 2.The mean recovery rates of worms in treated groups are presented in the following Table. ◁표 삽입▷ (원문을 참조하세요) 3.The cure rates(lethal rates) of the groups treated at 2 days, 2 weeks and 5 weeks after infection were 26.2-47.6%(39.3% in average), 21.4-54.8%(32.3% in average) and 84.3-100%(91% in average) respectively. From the above results, it was confirmed that albendazole treatment is very effective against the adult worms of C. sinensis, however it is less effective on larvae and juvenile worms.

        Methoxypolyethylene glycol of 5,000 dalton were covalently atteched to calf adenosine deaminase using cyanuric chloride as the coupling agent. The modified enzyme demonstrates altered catalytic properties such as shifts ill the pH and temperature optima, an decrease in the Michaelis-Menten constant and lowered Vmax in comparison with the native enzyme. The electroporetic mobility of PEG-ADA is greatly decreased in comparison to the unmodified enzyme.
