This paper describes the optical resource reservation protocol for Optical Burst Switching(OBS) networks, in which the burst sending time and the burst size at an ingress node are determined by the available resources between the ingress and egress nodes. Our scheme attempts to improve the burst contention resolution and optical channel utilization. We analyze the performance of the optical resource reservation protocol by using NS2 simulator.
Vol.48 No.1
The objective of this study was to investigate the growth characteristics of Quercus mongolica distributed in the deciduous stands at Mt. Joongwang located in Pyungchang-gun, Kangwon-do. Quercus. mongolica becomes increasingly dominant towards higher elevation. On steep slopes with a gradient above 30°that are fairly dry, dominance of Q. mongolica was estimated at 24.03% followed by Acer pictum subsp. mono and Acer mandshuricum. In addition, Q. mongolica was positively correlated with Tilia amurensis but negatively correlated with Betula costata, Acer pictum subsp. mono, Ulmus naciniata, Fraxinus mandshurica, Fraxinus rynchophylla, Acer mandshuricum and Cornus controversa. This study found that the distribution of Q. mongolica stands have maintained a relatively stable form for a period of time and will remain dominant by examining the distribution of diameter at breast height. Results also showed that the forest physiognomy of Q. mongolica are composed of more than 60% naturally regenerated stands. (Mt. Joongwang area located in Pyungchang-gun, Kangwon-do)

We investigate the effects on performance of using a partial retransmission mechanism in Optical Burst Switched(OBS) networks. In our scheme, the lost segments of a burst are retransmitted in the OBS layer. We also propose an optical resource reservation using the partial retransmission mechanism. Our scheme attempts to improve the burst contention resolution and optical channel utilization. The performance of the proposed mechanism is analyzed by NS2 simulations. Simulation results indicate that link utilization of the OBS network is improved makedly at the expense of signaling and ingress buffers.
Soft-State Bandwidth Reservation Mechanism for Slotted Optical Burst Switching Networks
2008 ETRI Journal Vol.30 No.2
This paper proposes a novel transport network architecture for the next generation network (NGN) based on the optical burst switching technology. The proposed architecture aims to provide efficient delivery of various types of network traffic by satisfying their quality-ofservice constraints. To this end, we have developed a softstate bandwidth reservation mechanism, which enables NGN transport nodes to dynamically reserve bandwidth needed for active data burst flows. The performance of the proposed mechanism is evaluated by means of numerical analysis and NS2 simulation. Our results show that the packet delay is kept within the constraint for each traffic flow and the burst loss rate is remarkably improved.

Pleomorphic adenoma originates mainly in major salivary glands such as the parotid and submandibular glands, but has rarely been reported to arise in the nasal cavity, especially the nasal septum. Diverse surgical approaches can be selected according to the size and location of the tumor. The treatment of choice for intranasal pleomorphic adenoma is complete surgical excision with histologically clear margin in order to prevent recurrence. However, endoscopic surgical excision has the benefits of superior visualization of the tumor margin, avoidance of external scar, and less blood loss. We report herein a case of a 48-year-old woman who presented with a seven-monthhistoryof right-sided nasal obstruction and intermittent nasal bleeding, diagnosed as pleomorphic adenoma of the nasal septum, that was treated with endoscopic surgery without any recurrence.
Priority-Based Duplicate Burst Transmission Mechanism in Optical Burst Switching Networks
2008 ETRI Journal Vol.30 No.1
This paper proposes a priority-based duplicate burst transmission mechanism in an optical burst switching network to enhance the probability of successful reception of bursts. The performance of the proposed mechanism is evaluated by NS2 simulations. Our results show that the burst loss rate is improved especially under light traffic loads.
