        Optical Monitoring of Tumors in BALB/c Nude Mice Using Optical Coherence Tomography

        We report a method for optical monitoring of tumors in an animal model using optical coherence tomography (OCT). In a spectral domain OCT system, a superluminescent diode light source with a full width of 66 nm at half maximum and peak wavelength of 950 nm was used to take images having an axial resolution of 6.8 μ m. Cancer cells of PC-3 were cultured and inoculated into the hypodermis of auricle tissues in BALB/c nude mice. We observed tumor formation and growth at the injection region of cancer cells in vivo and obtained the images of tumor mass center and sparse circumferences. On the 5th day from an inoculation of cancer cells, histological images of the tumor region using cross-sectional slicing and dye staining of specimens were taken in order to confirm the correlation with the high resolution OCT images. The OCT image of tumor mass compared with normal tissues was analyzed using its A-scan data so as to obtain a tissue attenuation rate which increases according to tumor growth.

        Life Prediction of Thermal Barrier Coating Considering Degradation and Thermal Fatigue

        A thermal barrier coating (TBC) is used to protect gas turbine components from extreme environments. Typically, the TBC system consists of two parts: a ceramic top coat and metallic bond coat. Thus, the TBC system is exposed to thermal fatigue owing to the mismatch between the thermal expansions of the ceramic top coat and metallic bond coat. The durability of the TBC decreases with repeated thermal fatigue and degradation under high-temperature conditions, which can eventually result in failure. Therefore, the life of the TBC should be predicted while considering degradation and thermal fatigue. In this study, TBC specimens were produced under different degradation and thermal fatigue conditions, and the bond test was performed on these specimens. Based on the bond test results, the life of the TBC was predicted according to degradation and thermal fatigue.

      • Graphene Gas Sensor Array Functionalized with Container Molecules

        The conventional "lock-and-key" sensor system has a disadvantage of low accuracy and reliability due to the limitation of detecting performance for single analyte. In this study, a pattern recognition type organic electronic device sensor array was manufactured by introducing container molecules such as cyclodextrins and calixarenes. It was confirmed that the sensor array with various container molecules shows different current changes for several analytes. This study not only provides an effective strategy for manufacturing a high-sensitivity, large-area sensor array, but shows that the pattern recognition sensor array can be applied to IoT and healthcare devices.

        순환경제 관점의 국내 자원순환 정책분석 : 2018 ~ 2020년 5개 정책을 대상으로

        The purpose of this study is to compare the domestic resource circulation policy announced in 2018-2020 and the EU's environmental policy, circular economy policy, to be used as a basis for future policy alternatives. To this end, main keywords were derived from the four policies announced by the EU in 2014, 2015, 2018, and 2020, and these were composed of policy goals (Lv1), core strategies (Lv2), and monitoring (Lv3). This study analyzes the five domestic resource circulation policies from the perspective of the circular economy policy. As a result, in the case of the “1st Master Plan for Resource Circulation,” which was the highest level plan in the field of resource circulation, it was confirmed that it was a policy at a level quite similar to that of the EU policy, with a score of 90 based on 100 points of EU circular economy policy. 본 연구는 2018~2020년에 발표한 국내 자원순환 정책이 EU의 환경정책인 순환경제 정책과 비교하고 , 향후 정책대안 을 구성함에 있어 근거자료로 활용되는 것을 목적으로 한다 . 이를 위해 EU가 2014년, 2015년, 2018년, 2020년 발표한 4 개의 정책을 대상으로 주요 키워드를 도출하고 , 이를 정책목표 (Lv1), 핵심전략 (Lv2), 모니터링 (Lv3)으로 구성하여 EU의 순환경제 정책 관점에서 5개의 국내 자원순환 정책을 분석한다 . 그 결과 자원순환 분야 최상위 계획인「제1차 자원순환 기본계획 」 의 경우 EU 순환경제 정책을 100점으로 기준했을 때, 90점으로 EU와 상당히 유사한 수준의 정책임을 확인 하였다 .

        알루미나 나노분말을 함유한 변압기 절연유의 분산기술

        Two different nanofluids were prepared by dispersing $Al_{2}O_3$ nanoparticles in transformer oil after hydrophobic surface modification. The agglomerated alumina nanoparticles with diameters from ${\mu}m$ to mm were ball-milled and then treated with surfactants such as lauric acid, stearic acid and oleic acid. The surface characteristics of modified nanoparticles were examined by FTIR spectroscopy. It showed that the hydrophobicity of nanoparticles was caused by esterification between hydroxyl groups on the particle surface and functional groups of surfactant. The shape and size distribution of ball-milled particles were analyzed by TEM and PSA. The results compared with the primary particles indicated that the size distributions of nanoparticles were dependant on milling times. The dispersion stability of modified nanoparticles dispersed in oil was highly dependent on the composition and amounts of surfactants.

        친환경 투수 콘크리트 바이오 블록의 개발

        Rising sea levels along the coast from global warming causes the increase of wave energy along the coast. This rise in sea levels results in relatively deep water levels, which would incur the loss of sand that had not occurred in the past from erosion in coastal areas. Generally, it has been challenging to protect against coastal erosion, and the slope, cross-sectional shape, and materials are selected for the site conditions depending on the change in external forces. However, the application of counter measures based on insufficient understanding of the phenomenon is causing various damage, indicating the need for technological development and converging technologies to improve credibility. In this study, we developed eco-friendly permeable biopolymer concrete blocks to control the coastal erosion by using the Bio-Coast, an effective porous structure that mitigates the destructive erosion caused by the rising sea levels. The hexagonal design of Bio-Coast was derived from the honeycomb, columnar joints, and clover, which are durable and stable structures in nature, and the design was changed to apply bumps on the Bio-Coast filling in the form of a clover to reduce wave overtopping and run-up. Applying the field condition of beaches on the east coast of Korea, the block weight and size were decided and the prototype blocks were manufactured and are ready for field placement. In particular, it is intended to protect coastal areas from destructive erosion by natural and artificial external forces, and to extend the design to river,s lakes, and natural walking trails, to improve the efficiency of quality control and process control through the use of blocks. 지구온난화에 따른 연안의 해수면 상승은 해안에 가해지는 파랑에너지의 상승을 유발한다. 이러한 해수면의 상승은 상대적으로 수심이 깊어지는 효과를 초래하고 이는 과거 발생하지 않았던 해안지역의 침식 및 해빈에서의 모래를 유실시킨다. 일반적으로 연안침식에 대응하는 방법은 호안을 쌓아 보호하게 되는 경성공법으로 외력의 변화에 따라 현장여건에 맞는 호안의 경사, 단면형상 및 재료를 선택하게 된다. 하지만 현상에 대한 불충분한 이해에 근거한 공법 적용으로 다양한 피해가 발생하고 있으며, 이는 신뢰도 향상을 위한 기술개발 및 융합기술 도입의 필요성을 보여준다. 본 연구에서는 파랑저감에 효과적인 다공성 구조물 바이오코스트(Biocoast)를 활용하여 해안침식피해억제를 위한 친환경 투수 바이오폴리머 콘크리트 블록을 개발하였다. 자연에서 내구성이 강하고 안정된 구조인 벌집, 주상절리, 클로버에서 정육각형 모양과 삼각형의 복합체로 디자인을 도출하였으며, 월파방지와 처오름 현상 감소를 위해 바이오코스트로 요철(凹凸)을 적용하도록 디자인에 변화를 가하였다. 한국 동해안의 해수욕장의 자연조건을 반영하여 디자인 한 블록의 중량과 크기를 계산하여 실형을 제작하고 이를 현장에의 설치를 앞두고 있다. 특히, 자연해변 및 호안시설에 대해 자연 및 인위적 외력에 의한 침식과 세굴로부터 연안을 보호하고, 블록의 단위화를 통해 품질관리 및 공정관리의 효율성을 향상시킬 수 있을 것으로 사료되며 하천, 호수의 호안과 자연산책로에 확장 적용하고자 한다.
