The ability of Lactobacillus manihotivorans LMG 18010 to produce L(+)-lactic acid from a high concentration of starch by direct fermentation was investigated. To improve the production of lactic acid from a highly concentrated starch, fed-batch cultures were carried out with different feeding strategies to reduce substrate inhibition. The highest lactic acid production was 71.4 g/L,which was obtained by intermittent feeding of concentrated starch media containing nitrogen sources. After 5 days of fermentation, about 87% of the substrate was consumed with a volumetric productivity of 0.6 g/L·h which is 1.8times higher than that obtained from batch fermentation. This result clearly shows that intermittant feeding of a highly concentrated substrate solution during fermentation is an efficient way of eliminating substrate inhibition.

L(+)-lactic acid is a raw material for synthesis of polylactic acid (PLA) which is an essential biodegradable polymer, In the polymerization process, the stereospecificity of lactic acid is very important, and selective production of stereospecific lactic acid has been carried out by lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Refined glucose and sucrose are the most commonly used substrate for producing lactic acid in fermentation process. However, production cost can be reduced if starch is used, as the saccharification process can be eliminated. Amylolytic lactic acid bacteria (ALAB) are able to simultaneously hydrolyze and ferment starch to lactic acid. Among several ALAB, Lactobacillus manihotivorans LMG 18010 was reported as homofementor that produces only L(+)-lactic acid. In this study, the influence of the most important operational variables on lactic acid production were examined with flask culture. The optimum initial pH for direct fermentation of starch to L(+)-lactic acid by Lb. manihotivorans was 6.5. With 10%(v/v) of inoculum of 12 hr-old cells which was grown in starch containing medium, the best results in lactic acid production were obtained in shake-flask fermentations.

D-pinitol, another chemical structure of 3-O-methyl-D-chiro-inositol, is an important insulin-sensitizer. The purpose of this review is to examine the characteristics of pinitol and other analogs as functional food biomaterials which were well known to reduce blood glucose levels. Pinitol can be converted to chiro-inositol in normal humans, while diabetic patients can not use the molecule, resulting in exhibiting low level of chiro-inositol in their urine. Recently, it is reported that pinitol can trigger phospholipase C/D, thus the rate of glucose metabolism accelerates to use as fuel for human body. To not only reduce insulin resistance of diabetic patients, but also alleviate the symptoms of diabetes, obesity, and muscle contraction, pinitol and its dietary supplementation is needed.
포그 컴퓨팅 구현을 위한 네트워크 엣지 영역 트래픽 기반 포그 서버 배치 기법

Cloud computing is now widely used. However, cloud computing alone cannot adequately respond to the traffic patterns generated by various objects in the new network environment of the internet of things (IoT). Fog computing is one method for overcoming and solving the problems of cloud computing. A fog-server placement method is needed, including a mechanism for determining the location for a fog-server that can provide services. However, most studies only consider the fog device’s computing resources, and the locations of the client and the data sources are not considered; therefore, the network situation becomes worse after the fog-server placement. In this paper, we propose a technique for fog-server placement that considers traffic generation in relation to the locations of the clients and data sources. In the experiment, clients and data sources are concentrated or distributed in the network topology, and their corresponding network-traffic patterns are considered. Experimental results show that, in terms of reducing core network traffic and memory usage, placing the fog server according to the proposed network traffic conditions is more efficient than placing fog servers in all of the fog devices.
문화적 차이에 따라 브랜드 개성이 제품 개성에 미치는 영향의 비교에 대한 연구

본 연구에서는 브랜드 개성이 제품의 개성을 판단하는데 영향을 미치는가에 대하여 설문을 통해 살펴보았다. 동일한 제품에 대하여 개성이 상이한 브랜드가 적용되었을 경우 제품의 개성을 판단함에 있어 브랜드 객성 특성이 반영되는지 여부를 확인하고자 하였다. 설문을 위하여 두 켤레의 신발을 준비하었으며 각각은 상징적인 측면이 강조된 여성용 하이힐 제품과 기능적인 측면이 강조된 운동화로 구성하였다. 각 제품에 대하여 명품브랜드 (Versace), 일반 상용 브랜드(독일: C&A, 한국: 밀리오레), 그리고 브랜드가 부착되지 않은 총 6장의 사진을 준비하였다. 실험에 앞서 별도의 피험자들이 상기 사용된 브랜드들에 대하여 "Frohlich/유쾌함(cheerful)", "ehrlich/정직함(honest)", "provokativ/도발적인(provocative)"의 형용사로 평가를 하였다. 본 실험에서는 실험참여자에게 각 신발들의 3가지 사진 중 무작위로 선정된 사진을 한 장씩 보여주고, 각각에 대해 브랜드 측정에 사용했던 동일한 평가항목을 이용하여 평가하도록 했다. 더불어, 본 연구는 개인주의 문화권에 비하여 집단주의 문화권에서 브랜드의 영향이 더 두드러지게 나타나는 지를 알아보기 위하여 독일의 만하임대학 (Universitaet Mannheim)과 한국의 한국과학기술원(KAIST) 학생들을 위주로 설문을 실시하여 문화적 차이에 따른 브랜드 영향력을 비교하고자 하였다. 실험결과에서는 독일과 한국 모두에서 브랜드 개성이 제품 개성에 유의한 영향을 미치지 않는 것으로 나타났으나, 브랜드 개성이 제품의 기능적 측면(가격)에는 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다(p<.001).
