In this study, the seismic behavior of reinforced concrete(R/C) frame strengthened with steel brace is analytically and experimentally investigated. R/C frame strengthening by installation of prestressed brace frame and comparison is made of non prestressed brace frame. The test and analysis results demonstrate that the seismic performance of R/C frame effectively enhanced by prestressed steel brace than non prestressed steel brace.

Inspection and measurement of surface quality is one of the most critical processes for manufacturing products such as semiconductor wafers, sapphire substrates, and display panels. The vibrations of the inspection and measurement devices are supposed to be the most dominant factors for severe measurement errors and longer measuring time. In this study, dynamic characteristics of an inspection and measurement device are analyzed through frequency response experiment and computer simulation to obtain parameters such as frequencies, magnitudes, mode shapes, and periods of vibrations. And then an active damper which consists of sensor, interface board, and actuator is designed based on the parameters to formulate the most effective reaction signal to suppress the vibrations which is generated by an interface board, and provided by an actuator. If the vibrations are measured by the sensor, the active damper immediately generates and provides the corresponding reaction signal to inspection and measurement device. The result shows that the active damper can suppress structural vibrations effectively and reduce measuring time of the device and enhance the productivity.

Strengthened glass is widely used in the display industry for the smart phone and the tablet PC’s, the market of which shows steady growth. The strengthened glass is prone to the fracture due to the machined surface defects such as crack and notch. The surface defects are caused mostly by the vibrations of the laser cutter. In this study, the vibrations of the laser cutter were investigated through the frequency response experiment and the computer simulation. The main reasons of the structural vibrations were analyzed, and further the design alterations were deduced and applied to the machine to check the effects of those alterations and to eventually improve the structural stability. The result shows that simple design modifications without major structural change can substantially suppress the vibrations, and improve the quality of the machined surface.

Many reinforced concrete moment resisting frame buildings in seismic zones lack strength and ductility. A Brace system may provide an economic advantage for the retrofit of these structures. Brace generally increase the strength and rigidity of frames under the influence of lateral loads such as earthquake. The main object of this research is to propose finite element analysis technique of the brace which considers the interaction of frame and brace.
