Purpose: This study aimed to investigate whether birth experience affects short-term memory (1,2-back task) by examining parturient and non-parturient women. Methods: A total of 31 women were enrolled in this study, of which 16 were parturient women who had given birth within the past 2 years (mean age: 33.9±2.2 years) and 15 were non-parturient (mean age: 31.4±2.1 years). The mean age did not significantly differ between the two groups, so the effects of age were eliminated. To match the level of education between the two groups, college graduation was an inclusion criterion. A 1,2-back task consisting of six alphabets from A-F was created using the SuperLab software. For each task, there were 100 stimuli (alphabets) and 30 answers. The participants practiced the task prior to the main experiment to ensure that they adequately understood the procedure. Results: The correct answer rates in the 1-back and 2-back tasks were 93.56±22.23% and 76.89±21.98%, respectively, in the non-parturient group and 95±10.04% and 80.83±13.67%, respectively, in the parturient group. The reaction time in the 1-back and 2-back tasks were 650.57±173.77 ms and 736.77±138.35 ms, respectively, in the non-parturient group and 621.91±81.90 ms and 737.5±195.99 ms, respectively, in the parturient group. There were no significant differences in the answer rates between the two groups, suggesting that parturition did not have a significant impact on the 1,2-back task performance. Conclusion: Birth experience does not significantly impair cognitive function. However, the findings of this pilot study are not highly reliable because of the limitations of the small sample size, degree of load, various types of working memory, and impact of hormones.

Background: Cnidium officinale Makino and Ligusticum chuanxiong Hort. are important medicinal crops in Korea. However, there is insufficient information on the identification of thrips, which attack these plants. Until now, one species of thrips has been recorded as a main pest. Methods and Results: To identify the thrips emerging in C. officinale Makino and L. chuanxiong Hort., these plants were independently cultivated in two local areas. Thirty individuals of each plant species were selected randomly and surveyed for the presence of thrips. After confirming the existence of thrips, 100 thrips individuals were collected from each crop using the beating method. To identify thrips species, we performed PCR-restriction fragment length polymorphism (RFLP)-based analysis using ITS2 primer sets. Six thrips species were identified: western flower thrips (Frankliniella occidentalis), flower thrips (F. intonsa), onion thrips (Thrips tabaci), chrysanthemum thrips (T. nigropilosus), chilli thrips (Scirtothrips dorsalis), and grass thrips (Anaphothrips obscurus). The proportion of these species differed between the host plant species. Conclusions: Six thrips species were major pests of two medicinal crops. Integrated pest management is required to control these thrips species, and will enhance the yield and quality of C. officinale and L. chuanxiong.
2-back task 수행 시 활성화되는 Fz의 ERP 패턴 분석 : 출산경험 유무 차이 비교

본 연구에서는 여성의 출산이 인지 수행능력에 영향을 끼치는지 관찰하기 위해 2-back task를 이용하여 인지 수행능력을 평가하고, 동시에 뇌파(electroencephalogram, EEG)를 측정하여 뇌 활성화 패턴을 관찰하였다. 출산 후 3년 이내의 여성 분만부 27명(평균 연령 33.1±3.05세), 미분만부 23명(평균 연령 30.8±2.31세) 총 50명을 대상으로 실험을 수행하였다. 인지 과제는 기억력 과제 중 하나이며, 적정 수준의 난이도인 2-back task를 자극원으로 선정하였다. 자극원 제시는 Super Lab S/W를 사용하여 A~F까지 6개의 알파벳을 제시하였다. 100개의 자극(알파벳)이 제시되었고, 그 중 정답은 30개였다. 자극은 800ms(Task time) 동안 제시되었으며, 자극 간 제시 간격은 2000ms(Rest time)이다. 인지과제 수행과 동시에 모든 구간에서 뇌파를 측정하였다. 획득한 뇌파 데이터는 Fz(전두엽)에서 측정한 진폭만을 사용하여 각 그룹별 사건관련전위 (Event-Related Potential, ERP)를 분석하였다. 인지과제 수행능력(정답률, 반응시간) 및 ERP 성분(P300peak. P600peak. N100peak, P300peak-to-peak (P300p_p), P600peak-to-peak (P600p_p))들의 유의성을 비교하기 위해 독립 t-검정(SPSS25(IBM. USA))을 실시하였다. 그 결과 정답률은 분만부 79.51 ± 12.56%, 미분만부 78.41 ± 17.80%이고 반응시간은 분만부 732.70±203.12ms, 미분만부 735.27± 152.95ms였으며, 두 그룹 사이에 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. ERP패턴 분석 결과, 두 그룹에서 관찰된 각 성분의 평균사이에 유의한 차이는 나타나지 않았다. 이는 과제 수행 시 문제를 해결하고 기억하는 영역인 전두엽에서는 출산경험 유무가 인지과제 수행능력과 그에 따른 뇌파 활성화에 영향을 주지 않는다는 것을 보여주는 결과이다.
