Crystallinity and Chemical Reactivity of Bimessite(δ-MnO<sub>2</sub>) Influenced by Iron

산화망간이 영양소물질과 오염물질과의 반응 및 망간이 식물의 필수 미량원소 등으로 인해 토양학에서 산화망간은 중요한 연구의 대상이 되어왔다. 토양 내에서 가장 흔한 산화망간 광물중의 하나인 버네사이트를 철의 존재 하에서 합성하였다. 토양 내에서 흔한 원소의 하나인 철이 버네사이트의 결정도, 형태 및 화학적 활성에 미치는 영향을 X-선회절, 전지현미경, 양이온 교환능력 및 크롬 산화력을 이용하여 연구하였다. 침전용액내의 철의 함량이 증가할수록 버네사이트의 결정도와 입자의 크기는 감소하였다. 침전된 버네사이트는 낮은 철의 농도에서 육각 판상형이 우세하였으나 농도가 증가 할 수록 미세입자로된 입단이 증가하였다. 그리고 크롬 산화능력은 철의 농도가 증가함에 따라 증가하였다. 양이온 치환능력은 철의 농도와 상관관계가 없었다. 침전용액속의 철은 버네사이트의 결정핵의 형성을 증가시켰고 표면흡착에 의해 결정의 성장을 방해하였다. 철은 토양 망간단과 내에서 산화철과 산화망간의 공존으로 미루어 보아 토양내의 버네사이트의 작은 입자, 낮은 결정도 및 높은 화학적 활성에 기여한 것으로 사료된다. 본 연구에서 입증된 버네사이트의 높은 양이온 교환 능력과 산화력은 버네사이트를 환경과 농업에 활용 가능성이 있음을 제시해준다. Manganese (Mn) oxides in soils have been a research subject since they react with nutrients and contaminants and Mn itself is an essential element for plant growth. Birnessite was synthesized in the presence of iron (Fe) in the precipitating solution. Influence of Fe, one of common elements in soils, on crytallinity, morphology, and chemical reactivity of birnessite was examined using X-ray diffraction (XRD), electron microscope, canon exchange capacity (CEC), and chromium (Cr) oxidation capacity. With increasing Fe concentration in the precipitating solution, crystallinity and crystal size decreased. Hexagonal plates of the birnessites formed at low Fe concentration were dominant and replaced more and more by aggregate of small particles with increasing the Fe concentration. There is no significant change in CEC with changing the Fe concentration. Chromium oxidation capacity of the birnessite increased with increasing the Fe concentration. Iron in the precipitating solution poisoned crystal growth by adsorption on the surface and increased nucleation. Since Fe is a common constituent under pedogenic environment and Fe and Mn oxides often coexist in Mn oxide nodules, the birnessite with small particle, low crystallinity, and high chemical reactivity is the form which is more likely to be formed in soils. The high CEC ($140cmol_ckg^{-1}$) and oxidation capacity of birnessite indicate that birnessite can be used in environment and agriculture.
Development of Sustainable Biofuels for Post-Climate Change

It is important that under the new Korean initiative, pilot scale studies evolve practices to produce next generation liquid biofuels. Whereas the first generation of biofuels is based on well established technologies, the development of processes related to the production of next generation biofuels utilizing biomass in still in the early stages of R&D in Korea. Although biofuels production provides new options for using agricultural crops, there are environmental, social and economic concerns associated with biofuel production. In this study, we provides on the development direction of sustainable biofuels for Post-climate change for Renewable Fuel Standard(RFS) in Korea.
1P-319 Biodiesel from Microalgae for Transport fuel

The objective of this study is to investigate fuel characteristics and vehicle application of biodiesel from microalgae Tetraselmis sp. in Korea. From the methods, microalgae Tetraselmis sp. is converted to biodiesel(fatty acid methyl ester) via trans-esterification process for alternative diesel fuel. Biodiesel blend with 2.5% from microalgae Tetraselmis sp. was to assess emissions (CO<sub>2</sub>, CO, NOx, PM and hydrocarbon) and fuel economy performance of a passenger car in chassis dynamometer system. In conclusions, fuel property of biodiesel from microalgae Tetraselmis sp. was within the limit by the Korean specification. It also showed reduction of emission of Biodiesel blend(2.5%) from microalgae Tetraselmis sp compared to those of conventional diesel fuel (no biodiesel blending) as a base test fuel and it was performed the similar result of fuel economy.
효율적인 비디오 브라우징을 위한 동적 요약 및 요약 기술구조

Recently, the capability of efficient access to the desired video content is of growing importance because more digital video data are available at an increasing rate. A video summary abstracting the gist from the entirety enables the efficient browsing as well as the fast skimming of the video contents. In this paper, we discuss a novel dynamic summarization method based on the detection of highlights which represent semantically significant content and the description scheme (DS) proposed to MPEG-7 aiming to provide summary description. The summary DS proposed to MPEG-7 allows for efficient navigation and browsing to the contents of interest through the functionalities of multi-level highlights, hierarchical browsing and user-customized summarization. In this paper, we also show the validation and the usefulness of the methodology for dynamic summarization and the summary DS in real applications with soccer video sequences.
