Objective: To examine the effects of self-acupressure which is usually used in reducing clinical nurses sleep pattern disturbances and fatigue. Methods: The research involved a nonequivalent control group with a pre test and post test design. The study subjects studied included 48 clinical nurses who work in C hospital located in Pusan, and they were classified into 2 groups: 25 nurses in the experimental group who took self-acupressure, and 23 nurses in the control group who did not. Self-acupressure of G12, H7 and Sp6 was administered over a period of 3 days with 1 demonstration and 4 frequencies. Results: 1. The sleep pattern disturbance score of the experimental group who took self-acupressure was significantly lower than that of the control group. (t=7.00, p=.00) 2. The fatigue score of the experimental group who took self-acupressure was significantly lower than that of the control group. (t=6.78, p=.00) Conclusions: Self-acupressure of G12, H7, Sp6 was effective for relieving clinical nurses sleep pattern disturbances and fatigue. The relevance of this study involved the use of Meridian self-acupressure in nursing intervention and was based on the theoretical foundations of Oriental Medicine.

Metallurgical connection methods, such as stud weld and puddle weld, have been used for a long time to attach a steel beam and a steel deck. Recently, the mechanical connection method has been used as an alternative to the metallurgical connection method. This method uses the explosive power of gunpowder to instantaneously drive a pin to combine a steel deck and a steel beam. This mechanical connection method has many advantages over metallurgical connection methods. First of all, a power supply is unnecessary and there are no concerns about an electrical accident. However, the handling of the mechanical connection method takes severs caution. Since the sound at the time of installation is loud, discretion is needed in a quiet place. Above all, when a pin is installed in a steel beam, the cross-section of the steel beam is reduced. Therefore, the effect of the pin on the tensile properties of the steel beam is the focus of this research. The main parameters are steel plate thickness, notch thickness, steel type, and damage types, that is, non-damage, drilled hole, and driving pin. This research supplies the fundamental data to the design criterion of this mechanical method by clarifying the influence of the mechanical method on the tensile property of the structural steel member. In a results, the strength and stiffness specimens using driving pin was raised but decreased deformation capacities and elongation.

Heavy metal contents in commercial horticultural growing media were investigated. Fifty-three samples were collected nationwide during 2000 to 2001 and heavy metals in the samples were analyzed by ICP-OES after acid digestion and 0.1 N HCl extraction. Average contents of total Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn by acid digestion in the growing media were 0.69, 35.7, 14.9, 15.5, 12.7, and 54.8 ㎎/㎏ DW, respectively. The ranges of heavy metal in the growing media were 0-1.82, 0-259.8, 1.6-69.5, 0-60.7, 0-36.5, 12.9-124.0 ㎎/㎏ DW for Cd, Cr, Cu, Ni, Pb, and Zn, respectively. Heavy metal contents in the commercial horticultural growing media were showed lower levels than the permitted levels for quality control described by Korean Standard Analytical Method for Crowing Media. Average contents and ranges of 0.1 N HCl extractable heavy metals were 0.08 and 0-0.20 for Cd, 0.38 and 0-2.10 for Cr, 1.45 and 0-4.03 for Cu, 0.85 and 0-3.31 for Ni, 0.84 and 0-2.21 for Pb, and 30.68 and 0.18-88.45 ㎎/㎏ DW for Zn, respectively. These concentrations by 0.1 N HCl extraction showed much less levels than those of total heavy metals by acid digestion.
