김훈섭,이정렬,엄진섭 江原大學校 産業技術硏究所 2007 産業技術硏究 Vol.27 No.B

This paper presents Spectral-Domain optical measurement system using self-fabricated CCD sensor driver. The light source is a high brightness white LED and the detector is a 2048 array typed CCD image sensor. I have fabricated the CCD sensor driver to generate four pulse signals, which are the CCD-driving pulses. Using this Spectral Domain optical measurement system, the distance value between the reference mirror and the sample mirror can be obtained successfully.

Emotion Recognition using Facial Thermal Images

        Jin-Sup Eom,Jin-Hun Sohn 대한인간공학회 2012 大韓人間工學會誌 Vol.31 No.3

Objective: The aim of this study is to investigate facial temperature changes induced by facial expression and emotional state in order to recognize a persons emotion using facial thermal images. Background: Facial thermal images have two advantages compared to visual images. Firstly, facial temperature measured by thermal camera does not depend on skin color, darkness, and lighting condition. Secondly, facial thermal images are changed not only by facial expression but also emotional state. To our knowledge, there is no study to concurrently investigate these two sources of facial temperature changes. Method: 231 students participated in the experiment. Four kinds of stimuli inducing anger, fear, boredom, and neutral were presented to participants and the facial temperatures were measured by an infrared camera. Each stimulus consisted of baseline and emotion period. Baseline period lasted during 1min and emotion period 1~3min. In the data analysis, the temperature differences between the baseline and emotion state were analyzed. Eyes, mouth, and glabella were selected for facial expression features, and forehead, nose, cheeks were selected for emotional state features. Results: The temperatures of eyes, mouth, glanella, forehead, and nose area were significantly decreased during the emotional experience and the changes were significantly different by the kind of emotion. The result of linear discriminant analysis for emotion recognition showed that the correct classification percentage in four emotions was 62.7% when using both facial expression features and emotional state features. The accuracy was slightly but significantly decreased at 56.7% when using only facial expression features, and the accuracy was 40.2% when using only emotional state features. Conclusion: Facial expression features are essential in emotion recognition, but emotion state features are also important to classify the emotion. Application: The results of this study can be applied to human-computer interaction system in the work places or the automobiles.

      • Perforator Reconstruction to Salvage the Jeopardized Flaps

Eom, Jin Sup,Choi, Dong Hoon The Korean Society for Microsurgery 2015 Archives of reconstructive microsurgery Vol.24 No.1

During flap elevation, most perforators are cut except one or more perforators that are essential to flap survival. However these cutout perforators can cause deterioration of the blood circulation of the flap. To salvage the jeopardized flaps, rebuilding the perforator system is essential for flap survival. In the first case, after flap elevation, the upper abdominal flap margin was severely ischemic. To supply blood to the upper abdominal flaps, we found and used a major perforator underneath the upper abdominal flap which was cut earlier during the elevation, and we performed reanastomosis with ipsilateral deep inferior epigastric artery. Upper abdominal flap ischemic area was limited to a narrow suture area. In the second case, we performed free superficial inferior epigastric artery (SIEA) flap reconstruction. After successful anastomosis of the SIEA and superficial inferior epigastric vein (SIEV) with internal mammary artery and vein, serious venous congestion occurred immediately because of SIEV malfunction. We found the largest perforator vein under the flap, as an alternate way to drain, then connected it with the thoracoacromial vein with a vein graft harvested in the contralateral SIEV. Circulation has improved. In conclusion, perforator system reconstruction is essential in a jeopardized flap salvage.

      • Antithrombotic efficacy of an oral low molecular weight heparin conjugated with deoxycholic asset on microsurgical anastomosis in rats

        Eom, Jin Sup,Koh, Kyung S.,Al-Hilal, Taslim A.,Park, Jin Woo,Jeon, Ok Cheol,Moon, Hyun Tae,Byun, Youngro Elsevier 2010 Thrombosis research Vol.126 No.3

Abstract

Introduction

Thrombogenic occlusion, at the anastomotic microvessels, contributed impaired blood flow to flap failure. The effect of an orally active low molecular weight heparin (LMWH) derivative conjugated with deoxycholic acid (DOCA) on the patency of anastomosis of the crushed rat artery was investigated, expecting its antithrombogenic effect.

Materials and Methods

60 Femoral arteries of 30 rats, divided into three groups of 20 each, were reanastomosed. LMWH-DOCA conjugate was orally administered prior to and after operation for 5 consecutive days. On the sixth day of operation, the patency of the anastomosed artery was evaluated.

Results

The patency of oral LMWH-DOCA (10mg/kg) group was significantly enhanced from 15% to 45%, compared to non-treated control group. On the other hand, when the dosage of LMWH-DOCA was reduced to 1mg/kg, its efficacy on anastomosis was not as efficacious in terms of patency. The intima of crushed artery was impaired and thrombus formation was examined in the control group. In the drug treated group, the patency was only compromised by a thin layer of thrombus that covered the inner layer of the vessel without causing any damage to the internal elastic lamina.

Conclusion

The medication of oral LMWH-DOCA conjugate has been vetted in microvascular anastomosis of the crushed artery. LMWH-DOCA was potentially useful for improving the patency in compromised vessels after microsurgery.

Low Frequency Noise and It's Psychological Effects

        Jin-Sup Eom,Sook-Hee Kim,Sung-Soo Jung,Jin-Hun Sohn 대한인간공학회 2014 大韓人間工學會誌 Vol.33 No.1

Objective: This entire study has two parts. Study I aimed to develop a psychological assessment scale and the study II aimed to investigate the effects of LFN (low frequency noise) on the psychological responses in humans, using the scale developed in the study I. Background: LFN is known to have a negative impact on the functioning of humans. The negative impact of LFN can be categorized into two major areas of functioning of humans, physiological and psychological areas of functioning. The physiological impact can cause abnormalities in threshold, balancing and/or vestibular system, cardiovascular system and, hormone changes. Psychological functioning includes cognition, communication, mental health, and annoyance. Method: 182 college students participated in the study I in development of a psychological assessment scale and 42 paid volunteers participated in the study II to measure psychological responses. The LFN stimuli consisted of 12 different pure tones and 12 different 1 octave-band white noises and each stimulus had 4 different frequencies and 3 different sounds pressure levels. Results: We developed the psychological assessment scale consisting of 17 items with 3 dimensions of psychological responses (i.e., perceived physical, perceived physiological, and emotional responses). The main findings of LFN on the responses were as follows: 1. Perceived psychological responses showed a linear relation with SPL (sound pressure level), that is the higher the SPL is, the higher the negative psychological responses were. 2. Psychological responses showed quadric relations with SPL in general. 3. More negative responses at 31.5Hz LFN than those of 63 and 125Hz were reported, which is deemed to be caused by perceived vibration by 31.5Hz. "Perceived vibration" at 31.5Hz than those of other frequencies of LFN is deemed to have amplified the negative psychological response. Consequently there found different effects of low frequency noise with different frequencies and intensity (SPL) on multiple psychological responses. Conclusion: Three dimensions of psychological responses drawn in regard to this study differed from others in the frequencies and SLP of LFN. Negative psychological responses are deemed to be differently affected by the frequency, SPL of the LFN and "feel vibration" induced by the LFN. Application: The psychological scale from our study can be applied in quantitative psychological measurement of LFN at home or industrial environment. In addition, it can also help design systems to block LFN to provide optimal conditions if used the study outcome, .i.e., the relations between physical and psychological responses of LFN.
